The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Rejection
Yan Xijing looked at Si Shao with hazy eyes, ready to kiss her again, but was held back.
“No, we can’t go any further.”
“What do you mean ‘can’t’? You clearly enjoyed it just now too, didn’t you? Why not continue?”
“We can’t. Not like this.”
Si Shao didn’t like the feeling of losing control. This kind of temptation was incredibly hard to resist.
“You’ve always been like this, haven’t you? No matter how intense things got, you could always stop. Si Shao, did you ever really like me that much?”
Even Yan Xijing’s passion cooled a bit in the face of this kind of rejection.
Si Shao frowned slightly at her question and said, “That’s not a question I can answer. But in my view, giving in to desire is far easier than resisting it. I could have taken you right now without restraint, but then what? What comes next? If you got pregnant, you’d have to give up all your work. Are you really ready for that?”
“Maybe that was true before. But now, if you’re stopping, isn’t it just because you don’t like me anymore?”
Yan Xijing smiled bitterly after she said it.
Seeing her like this, something unexpectedly soft stirred in Si Shao’s heart. She said, “This has nothing to do with whether I like you or not. I just don’t want to be careless. That temporary mark just now—it already crossed the line.”
“Do you like Leng Qingshuang?”
“I admire her. As an omega, she has a bravery that most omegas don’t.”
Si Shao did have feelings of appreciation toward Leng Qingshuang, but it hadn’t reached the point of liking her. As for Yan Xijing—though she couldn’t remember anything, she didn’t hate her either. Maybe it was because she was too beautiful. People always had more tolerance for attractive faces.
“Then let me change the question. What kind of omega do you like now?”
Yan Xijing didn’t want to give up but didn’t want to pursue her blindly either, so she asked directly.
Si Shao thought seriously for a moment and replied, “I don’t want to define an omega with any labels. Liking someone isn’t determined by superficial traits. But if I had to say… I guess everyone likes someone who’s good-looking.”
That condition—something Yan Xijing neither needed nor could change—left her even more unsure of what to do. After a moment of silence, she asked, “What if I was willing to give up everything to marry you? Would you be willing then?”
“No. I don’t want you to lose yourself. You wouldn’t be happy that way, and neither would I. Yan Xijing, what’s in the past is in the past. It’s not something we can force. Do you understand? We won’t get back together, and you should start a new life and find someone who truly suits you.”
“You’re the one who suits me best. I won’t give up. You don’t like flowers—I won’t send them. But I’ll bring you food. Just tell me what you like and what you don’t, and I’ll remember it all.”
She thought back to the past, realizing how she had never considered that Si Shao’s tastes might differ from hers. That thought filled her with even more regret—something so simple, yet she never paid attention to it.
“I’ll just eat at the company cafeteria. The food’s not bad there. I used to eat there anyway.”
Si Shao didn’t have particular preferences for food. As long as it filled her stomach, she was fine. If she had a choice, she just preferred stronger flavors—nothing more.
The string of rejections hit Yan Xijing hard, and she couldn’t take much more. She said, “Go home then. I’ll take you to work tomorrow morning.”
“I have a driver. Just rest. You don’t need to drive me.”
Si Shao really didn’t want to be tangled up with her any longer.
Yan Xijing hadn’t expected even this small gesture to be refused. That stubborn streak of hers was triggered again. “I’m just driving you to work—not asking for any promises. Why reject even that? What, are you afraid you won’t be able to resist my charm and end up fully marking me?”
“You… Yan Xijing, we’re not kids anymore. Don’t you think using reverse psychology like this is childish?”
Si Shao was used to running a big company. If reverse psychology worked on her, she would’ve lost everything a long time ago.
Of course Yan Xijing knew reverse psychology wouldn’t work on Si Shao. But hers was different from others. “Yeah, I’m childish. And honestly, I think that’s your fault too. If you won’t let me drive you, then I’ll start sending flowers again. Not just flowers—I’ll come pick you up at work every day too. You—”
“Fine. One last time. You can drive me tomorrow morning. But after that, stop with all this, okay?”
“Okay.”
Yan Xijing agreed quickly, but she had other plans in her heart. She might not have chased anyone before, but she knew persistence worked on everyone. And with her looks? Even if Si Shao had forgotten everything, she couldn’t possibly resist forever. After all, if she could, the temporary mark just now wouldn’t have happened.
When Si Shao got home, she found Si Hengyu and Liang Rui waiting for her in the living room. One look, and she knew they wanted to talk.
“Come sit down. Your dad has something to say to you,” Liang Rui said, her voice as gentle as always.
Si Shao could tell it wasn’t anything major. “Dad, if it’s about the company, you don’t need to worry. I’ll handle it.”
“I know you can handle the company. What I want to talk about isn’t business—it’s about Yan Xijing. Did she come find you?”
Si Shao knew she couldn’t hide it. Even if Yan Xijing hadn’t come to the house, her dad would’ve known. “Yeah. She said she wanted to pursue me, but I didn’t accept.”
Si Hengyu said worriedly, “My dear girl, even if you had ten lives, they wouldn’t be enough to survive her tossing you around. No matter what she says, don’t get tangled up with her again. If you can’t bring yourself to reject her, I’ll do it for you. Your Uncle Yan might be upset, but let’s be clear—this whole mess is their family’s fault. Our two families won’t break over this.”
His words made Si Shao laugh. “Dad, what era are you living in? Still trying to play the old-school, authoritarian match-breaker? Relax. I can handle my own matters.”
“If you could handle it, would she still be bothering you this long? You just can’t be ruthless enough. If you’ve forgotten everything already, why still go soft on her? Our Si family owes her family nothing. You don’t need to keep feeling guilty toward her.”
Even though he said that, Si Hengyu didn’t really dislike Yan Xijing. After all, she was a kid he’d watched grow up. He was just talking tough.
