The Movie Queen Wants to Get Back with Her Ex - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: Meeting Zhao Zeyu
“Not bad. How about you?”
“I’m okay too. I’ll be busy for the next few days—if you need anything, just call me. I’ll have the driver drop you around.”
“Alright. Don’t worry—I’m not a child.”
Sometimes Yan Xijing liked Si Shao’s constant care. Other times, she found it a bit too much. Today, she was in a good mood—and she appreciated the attention. Si Shao could gauge her mood just by hearing her voice, so she stayed on the phone a while longer. Eventually, after Yan Xijing said she was going to sleep, they hung up.
Two days later, Yan Xijing had just removed her makeup and changed into regular clothes when Zhao Zelin arrived to pick her up. He had rushed over from the hospital; he didn’t have filming that afternoon.
Once she sat in his car, she noticed how immaculately clean it was, even carrying a faint, pleasant scent.
“Miss Yan, just a few words with my brother is all that’s needed. Thank you again.”
“It’s nothing. No need to keep thanking me.”
In front of others, Yan Xijing was refined, graceful, and slightly aloof. But with Si Shao, she was indulgent—free to be as she pleased.
They arrived quickly at the hospital. Zhao Zelin’s younger brother, Zhao Zeyu, was an omega—too young to determine his rank. Zhao had booked him a private room with good amenities. Still, a hospital can feel cold and tense no matter what.
Seeing Zeyu pale and fragile enough to be blown over by the wind, Yan Xijing’s heart clenched.
“He didn’t want you to see him in a hospital gown, so he changed clothes.”
“He looks great.”
Yan Xijing wasn’t one to lie—this was a genuine compliment. Though fragile, Zeyu’s pale face was still striking. He wore light green athletic wear, lending a touch of vitality to his appearance.
Blushing a soft shade of pink, Zeyu smiled. “Thank you, sister. You’re even prettier than on TV.”
“Thank you. Though many people say I’m beautiful, I cherish your compliment most.”
She gently stroked his fine hair, which felt soft under her fingertips.
“Brother, I want the soup you brought last time. Can you get it for me?”
Zelin looked hesitant. Yan Xijing was his guest; he felt awkward going to fetch soup.
Yan Xijing smiled. “Go—don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
He nodded, excused himself, and hurried off.
She turned back to Zeyu. “You’re a clever kid. Say what’s on your mind.”
“You’re smart, not like my brother—he’s kind of clueless.”
Zeyu giggled. “Thank you for coming to see me. I’m so happy. For years in this room, my only joy has been watching TV—and your work is what I look forward to most.”
His words were soft but genuine, and tears welled in Yan Xijing’s eyes.
“Sister, I’m sorry for burdening my brother all these years. His life has been just work because of me. Actually, he took this role because I asked—for a chance to meet you. That’s how much you mean to me.”
“I know you have a fiancée. I don’t expect anything else. I just want you to be my brother’s friend. I like you, sister. That’s enough.”
Only thirteen, he sincerely wanted a friend for his brother. Yan Xijing couldn’t refuse such innocence.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be your brother’s friend. And with today’s medical advances, you’ll be all right.”
She didn’t know how serious his congenital heart disease was, but offered comfort as best she could. Zeyu, however, knew the situation—he’d witnessed too many friends in the same ward pass away. He feared time was running out.
“Thank you, sister.”
Before she could respond, Zelin returned with soup. “You were fast.”
“They know me well at the restaurant I ordered from. They deliver.”
“I ordered enough for you too—please help yourself. I’ll treat you another time.”
“Sure.”
Yan Xijing liked the brothers. The meal was pleasant, and they agreed to meet again soon.
Since Zelin stayed behind with Zeyu, Yan Xijing arranged for the driver to pick her up. To her surprise, Si Shao was waiting outside instead.
“Why are you here? Weren’t you busy?”
“I snuck away—I missed you and wanted to see you.”
“Si Shao, are you stalking me?”
Every time Yan Xijing met someone privately, Si Shao seemed to appear. She’d asked about it before. Today, Si Shao finally responded, and Yan Xijing was determined to get an answer.
“I’m not stalking you. I happened to come home and saw your driver leaving—so I asked where you were going.”
Yan Xijing didn’t fully believe her. She pressed on: “So every previous time—just coincidental? Always happened to be heading out when your driver left?”
