- Chapter 3 - What Special Skills?
Xu Xiu carefully examined Luo Xuange’s face, then said to her, “Forget it, just fill in any special skill.” Special skills didn’t matter; as long as her looks were good enough.
Luo Xuange inadvertently caught sight of another application form that someone had left behind. In the special skills section, it listed violin.
“That’s a musical instrument,” Luo Xuange thought. She pondered for a moment and then wrote flute in her special skills column.
Afterward, she filled in the rest of her basic information. When Luo Xuange handed the application form to Xu Xiu, Xu Xiu briefly scanned her special skills column.
“You really know how to play the flute?” Xu Xiu’s eyes were full of doubt.
Luo Xuange nodded: “When I was little, I thought learning an instrument would be interesting, so I studied it for a while.”
“Alright, I guess. Can you play a whole song?” Xu Xiu was still worried. She was afraid Luo Xuange would confidently list a special skill only to make a fool of herself on the live broadcast.
Luo Xuange simply nodded silently. She wanted to say that she could compose music independently, but she felt Xu Xiu wouldn’t believe her.
Just as Luo Xuange was about to leave, Xu Xiu suddenly called out to her.
“Besides you, I have another artist under my wing who will also participate in this audition. I hope you two can stick together when the time comes.” Xu Xiu only mentioned this much.
Luo Xuange suddenly chuckled softly: “It’s Meng Xiaomeng, right? And you didn’t tell her about the potential rigging of this audition, did you?”
Hearing this, Xu Xiu gave Luo Xuange another look, very curious how Luo Xuange knew about it.
Seeing her confusion, Luo Xuange didn’t bother to hide it and said directly: “When she left just now, she had a very excited smile on her face, which means she received a very good job arrangement from you. And when she walked out, her steps were very steady, with an aspiring momentum about her, indicating that she doesn’t know the inside story. She wants to work hard to achieve a good ranking.”
“You can even see these things?” Xu Xiu became somewhat interested in Luo Xuange. She had thought Luo Xuange was just a plucky little newcomer.
Luo Xuange suddenly sighed: “I, too, have seen all aspects of life, I suppose.”
With a soft chuckle, Xu Xiu stepped forward and patted her shoulder: “With me, you don’t need to overthink things. My job is to fight for the best possible resources for every artist. As long as you don’t stray and don’t engage in crooked practices, the company can easily turn you into a second or third-tier star.”
Luo Xuange smiled. Her first impression of Xu Xiu was also good. However, her goal was to be an A-list star, the kind at the top of the entertainment industry pyramid. But there was no need to reveal this to anyone yet; when the time was right, she’d use her strength to show them.
At this moment, Luo Xuange was confident. After her rebirth, she was amazed to discover that her internal energy from her previous life had followed her to this world, undiminished. Although she still couldn’t understand why, as long as her internal energy remained, Luo Xuange was still that confident and noble Demon Sect Leader.
Leaving the company, Luo Xuange didn’t plan to go home.
She desperately needed money right now, not just for food and daily expenses, but also for the two months of overdue rent that really needed to be paid. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have the face to see the kind landlady.
Fortunately, Luo Xuange had casually brought her actor’s ID when she left, probably a habit left over from the original owner.
After Luo Xuange wandered around the film city for a while, she was suddenly stopped by a man.
Luo Xuange searched through her memories and suddenly realized she knew this man.
“Haven’t seen you in so many days, why are you here today?” the man asked.
Luo Xuange smiled faintly: “No money left. If I don’t come out, I’ll starve to death at home.”
“Our crew is short of a few extras. Want to give it a try?” The man was a crowd leader the original owner knew, and they had a decent relationship. Now, she wasn’t sure if he genuinely needed people or if he just wanted to help Luo Xuange out.
Regardless, Luo Xuange decided to accept.
After agreeing, Luo Xuange asked curiously: “Which crew? Are they still filming during the Lunar New Year?”
“Director Jiang’s *Qingqiu*. It’s just that the second female lead had an accident a few days ago, and the crew’s progress slowed down immediately. Plus, it was New Year’s Eve yesterday, and the female lead took leave to go home for the New Year. So, we had to rush to continue filming this morning.”
The man complained a bit. During the Lunar New Year, most crews here had left, only Director Jiang Haixi, that crazy director, insisted on continuing to film.
“Who’s the female lead?” Luo Xuange wasn’t very curious; she just asked casually when the man mentioned her.
The man’s eyes lit up when he mentioned the female lead: “Who else could it be? An Ruoshui! Haven’t you seen all the buzz online?”
“I haven’t paid much attention.” When Luo Xuange heard that name, she suddenly felt a little disinclined to go to that crew. After all, she didn’t know how to face that woman, nor whether some subconscious habits left by the original owner would affect her when facing her. After all, the original owner genuinely loved that woman and thought of her even before she died.
And in that woman’s heart, the original owner was probably just a “friend” she had met a few times? Perhaps not even a friend.
Walking and chatting about trivial matters, they finally arrived at the set.
The liveliness here contrasted sharply with the desolation outside. Even the resentment of the staff here contrasted sharply with the joy of the few scattered tourists outside.
“Go change your clothes. We’re short a few bodies over there later. Go lie in that puddle; it pays more than lying on dry ground.” The man said while gesturing to others to prepare. After a moment, he thought about it and said, “Forget it, your body isn’t well to begin with. Don’t bother going into the water in such cold weather. Besides, Director Jiang is extremely meticulous when filming, and there’s no telling when this scene will pass. Don’t suffer yourself for a few dozen yuan.”
Luo Xuange looked at the small puddle. The original owner certainly wouldn’t have been able to endure it, but she had strong internal energy within her, so at this moment, she certainly didn’t need to fear the cold.
After changing her clothes, according to the assistant director’s arrangements, Luo Xuange went to lie in the puddle. A biting cold instantly assailed her.
Luo Xuange shivered and began to use her internal energy to protect herself.
However, shortly after she lay down, the man came over, his tone full of complaint as he said to Luo Xuange: “Why are you so stubborn? Is money more important than your health?”
“Of course money is more important! Stop talking to me, let me concentrate on my acting!” Luo Xuange almost choked on a mouthful of muddy water.
The man repeatedly shook his head: “Are you really taking it that seriously? Eh, forget it. It’s your own path; I can’t control it.”
After the man left, everyone prepared to start filming.
An Ruoshui also finished her makeup and walked out of the dressing room. A cold gust of wind blew, and even though she wore thick costumes, she couldn’t help but shiver.
But looking around the set, she noticed an extra lying in a puddle. Was she really okay in this cold weather?
However, before An Ruoshui could look closely, the director began to call for filming to start.
The weather was cold, and no one wanted to freeze here, so everyone put their heart and soul into filming this scene. But some people’s acting skills just weren’t up to par, and Director Jiang Haixi was a perfectionist who couldn’t tolerate any flaws in his work.
So, this simple fight scene took over three hours to shoot repeatedly. An Ruoshui, because she was doing her own stunts, increased her physical activity during the fight, so she didn’t feel too cold.
But the extras lying on the ground playing corpses had purple lips from the cold, and some were even trembling.
The director’s gaze swept to Luo Xuange in the puddle. Luo Xuange looked as if she had truly breathed her last, lying in the puddle without any reaction.
Immediately, someone whispered: “Did that person really freeze to death?”
Jiang Haixi turned and glared at the staff member. Filming continued as planned. As soon as the male lead finished his lines, the scene immediately ended.
While the other “bodies” quickly sprang up from the ground, only Luo Xuange slowly and calmly stood up.
Luo Xuange felt a gaze fixed on her, which she tried to ignore but couldn’t. She followed the gaze and saw a familiar yet unfamiliar woman in the distance, looking at her with undisguised anger.
Did I provoke her?
Luo Xuange was stunned, then remembered what An Ruoshui had said before: they should act like strangers in front of outsiders. So, Luo Xuange quickly shifted her gaze, even deliberately ignoring An Ruoshui.
An Ruoshui had just taken a dry towel from her assistant but saw Luo Xuange deliberately turn her head away and stop looking at her. She froze for a moment, then handed the towel back to her assistant.
Author’s Note:
The original owner’s feelings for An Ruoshui are not love; it’s a fan’s obsession with an idol, just like crazy fans screaming about wanting to have monkey babies with their idols every day. This will be explained in the main text later. This novel is not angsty! It’s very sweet! Really!
