The Necromance of Love and Death: Defeated Early in the Game, I Reincarnated as a Tragic Villainous Noble and Rebel Against the Scenario with My Beloved Using My Modern and Game Knowledge - Chapter 15
“Waaah!”
Vio let out an excited cheer beside me as we soared through the sky on Baltzarek’s back.
And me? I was completely stiff.
Maybe I hadn’t realized it until now, but I might actually have a fear of heights. Cold sweat had been running down my back nonstop.
That said, flying with Baltzarek was surprisingly comfortable.
I had been worried about the freezing air at high altitudes, but strangely enough, I didn’t feel even the slightest breeze—despite the fact that we were moving at an incredible speed. Was this also part of Baltzarek’s magic?
It might sound odd to say this, but he was being more considerate of us than I had expected.
“Ughhh…”
When I glanced down, the scenery below looked like it was melting together, a blur of colors rushing past at terrifying speed.
If I fell from here… I wouldn’t survive, no question about it.
Feeling uneasy, I gripped Vio’s hand tightly to make sure she wouldn’t try to stand up while she was busy enjoying the ride.
After about an hour, just as I was finally starting to get used to the sensation, I noticed Baltzarek slowing down.
“Baltzarek, what’s wrong?”
“We’re almost there.”
“Huh!? Already!?”
A journey that would take two weeks by carriage… had only taken an hour!?
“Baltzarek, you’re amazing!”
“Indeed. This speed is truly impressive.”
“No, no, no, this is insane!”
I was beyond surprised—at this point, it was just plain terrifying!
But just as Baltzarek had said, up ahead, I could see a massive city coming into view. That must be the royal capital.
I see… So this is why dragons are considered the strongest creatures. If one could fly this fast and launch surprise attacks with dragon breath, they’d be unstoppable. No wonder even the Demon King never dared to make an enemy out of them.
“Shall I land at the usual spot?”
“The usual…? It would be great if you could land at the Balbastor estate in the capital.”
“Understood.”
As the cityscape of the royal capital gradually came into view, the reality of arriving here started to sink in.
The city was built with the royal castle at its center, surrounded by sturdy walls. From up here, I could clearly see four circular walls dividing the districts.
Baltzarek flew toward the innermost circle, closest to the castle. Among the many mansions, one stood out as particularly grand. That must be the Balbastor Marquis family’s estate in the capital.
Next to it was a large warehouse-like structure, similar to the one we had in our territory. That was probably Baltzarek’s residence in the royal capital.
He landed gracefully in the spacious plaza in front of his residence, his descent so smooth it felt as if gravity had been momentarily forgotten.
“We’ve arrived.”
“Thank you, Baltzarek.”
As a token of gratitude, I patted his back.
At that moment, a group of people came running from the Balbastor estate.
“That black-scaled dragon—there’s no doubt, it’s Lord Baltzarek!”
“And the ones riding him… No way, could it be the Young Master!?”
“The Young Master has returned!”
It seemed that Baltzarek had flown so fast that the servants hadn’t received word of our arrival in time. This had turned into an unexpected surprise visit.
Just then, the gathered servants suddenly parted to either side, as if making way for someone.
A dignified man in his forties, dressed in a butler’s uniform, stepped forward.
“Lord, Lady Violette, Countess Corantine, welcome to the capital. I apologize for the delayed greeting. I am Arnaud, entrusted with the management of this estate. It is an honor to make your acquaintance.”
So this was Arnaud. I’d heard he was the son of our steward and the one in charge of the Balbastor residence in the royal capital.
“Thank you for welcoming us. Sorry for the sudden arrival, but could you prepare some rooms? Also, I have a letter from my steward for you.”
“Understood, my lord.”
We were led by Arnaud into the mansion’s grand hall.
It was an impressive room. Compared to the estate in the Balbastor territory, the decorations here seemed far more extravagant.
“My lord, where would you like to have lunch?”
“We’ll dine here at the estate. Also, send a messenger to the royal palace.”
The mansion itself was quiet, but there was an unmistakable sense of hurried activity in the air. Since we had arrived without prior notice, the staff must have been scrambling to make preparations.
“Apologies for the sudden arrival. I did send word ahead, but Baltzarek was simply too fast.”
“No need to worry, my lord. My father, Donald, mentioned in his letter that such an event might occur.”
Donald—that was my grandfather’s name, wasn’t it? I always call him “Grandpa,” so I sometimes forget his actual name.
“Besides, the staff here are quite used to such situations.”
“Used to it?”
What did he mean by that?
“It hasn’t happened recently, but in the past, Lord Alfred frequently traveled to the royal capital on Lord Baltzarek’s back.”
“I see.”
That made sense. A journey that would normally take two weeks by carriage was reduced to just an hour. Of course, my father would take advantage of that.
“Hey, Kuro! Let’s go explore until lunch!”
“Hmm… Everyone’s busy right now. Maybe we should wait until later?”
“Aww, come on!”
“Now, now, Vio, mind your manners.”
“Fiiine…”
Vio was clearly getting bored.
Lunch preparations would probably take some time… Maybe we should go explore the royal capital for a bit.
