The Necromance of Love and Death: Defeated Early in the Game, I Reincarnated as a Tragic Villainous Noble and Rebel Against the Scenario with My Beloved Using My Modern and Game Knowledge - Chapter 27
The next morning, in the dining room of the Balbastor Mansion:
As the soft morning light shine in, Vio, Charles, and I sat down to have breakfast.
I hadn’t expected it, but Charles had become even more energetic after his resurrection. Before, he had a poor appetite and moved slowly. But now, he was eating very well and running around just like he did when he was younger. It was a pleasant surprise.
Well, it did result in a vase in the hallway getting knocked over, but that didn’t bother me at all.
Even now, Charles was happily devouring the boiled chicken fillets under the table. Watching him like this somehow warmed my heart.
“What are you doing today, Clovis?”
As I watched Charles with a fond smile, Vio asked who was sitting just across from me.
“Today, I’ll be meeting with my relatives. Since half of my family has been cut off, I need to restructure the governance.”
“Hmm. What should I do in the meantime? Can I borrow Enzo?”
“That’s fine. I’ll arrange for a carriage to take you to the parade grounds. Are you planning to practice swordsmanship?”
“Yeah. Swordsmanship is much deeper than I thought. I can see why Father is so obsessed with it.”
“Now that I think about it, Count Univille was a well-known noble and a killed swordsman.”
“That’s right. I never understood the appeal of swinging a sword around, but experiencing it firsthand makes a difference.”
Perhaps Vio’s talent for swordsmanship was something he had inherited from Count Univille.
At that moment, I felt something soft brush against my leg. Looking down, I saw Charles staring up at me.
“What’s wrong, Charles? Do you want another serving?”
His plate was already empty.
“Another serving for Charles.”
“Got it.”
I told the servant to bring more. Charles used to have such a small appetite that he couldn’t even finish a quarter of a chicken br3ast, but now he had eaten an entire portion and was asking for more. It made me happy to see him eating so well.
Once breakfast was over and I sent Vio off and my relatives began arriving at the mansion one after another. The maids guided them to the meeting room and I made my way there as well.
“Everyone is here.”
As soon as they entered the room, my family members knelt before me.
My position in this family meeting was completely different from before. I had risen from being just a child of a Marquess to becoming the Margraviate myself. There was now an insurmountable gap between titled and untitled nobles.
“Margrave, I’m pleased to see you in good spirits.”
The elder, Oban, spoke on behalf of the family.
I nodded in response before speaking.
“Everyone, please be at ease.”
“As you are all aware, I met with His Majesty and was granted the title of Margrave. However, I am still young. I may cause some difficulties, but I hope you will support me.”
“Of course. That is why we are here.” His relatives assured him.
“Thank you. Now, let’s get straight to the point. As you all know, due to the recent purge of traitors, the number of family members supporting House Balbastor has been cut in half.”
A heavy silence filled the room as everyone listened intently. My close ties with Baltzarek likely played a role in their seriousness. It was reassuring not to be underestimated.
“The most pressing issue is the lack of manpower to govern the vast territory of this Margraviate.”
House Balbastor had traditionally assigned relatives as governors to oversee its many regions. But with our numbers now reduced, there were gaps in the administration. While this wasn’t an immediate crisis, it was a matter that needed to be addressed.
“Therefore, I intend to entrust additional lands to some of you.”
A murmur of surprise spread among the relatives.
More land meant more responsibility—but also more influence. This was undoubtedly a favorable development for them.
“First, let’s talk about Barake, which was previously governed by Uncle Alberic…”
At the mention of Barake, tension filled the room.
Barake was one of the kingdom’s largest mining regions, rich in resources and boasting advanced ore-processing technology. The benefits of governing it were immeasurable.
While I, as the lord, held ultimate authority, this was not a position that could be entrusted to just anyone.
“I want to appoint Oban as the governor of Barake.”
Oban’s wrinkled face showed clear surprise.
“I am honored by your trust, but are you sure an old man like me is the right choice? There are others with greater strength…”
“Barake cannot be entrusted to anyone but you, Oban.”
Oban had been the first to support me at the previous family meeting. This was my way of repaying him.
“That may be so, but…”
“Please, Oban. I need your help.”
“Ha! If you are willing to rely on this old man, I will serve you with all my strength!”
“Thank you.”
With Oban in charge of Barake, I could rest easy. He wouldn’t betray me unless I gave him a serious reason to.
I had to learn the intricacies of governance as soon as possible.
Now, it was time to assign the remaining territories.
