The Necromance of Love and Death: Defeated Early in the Game, I Reincarnated as a Tragic Villainous Noble and Rebel Against the Scenario with My Beloved Using My Modern and Game Knowledge - Chapter 32
“Charles!”
One day, I wandered through the mansion in search of Charles.
“Have you seen Charles?”
“Charles? I saw him heading to the kitchen a little while ago.”
“I see, thanks.”
After aking maid, I made my way to the kitchen.
As I was about to arrive, I heard cheerful laughter coming from inside.
“Charles has gotten so much better! Just look at how much he’s eating—it reminds me of the old days.”
“Indeed. And it seems like his fur has gotten glossier as well.”
“You’re right.”
“Nyaa~”
“Charles, would you like some more? How about some duck this time?”
“Oh my! Charles just nodded!”
“Could he understand human language?”
“Of course! Charles is very smart.”
It seemed that Charles was still in the kitchen.
“I’m coming in.”
When I opened the kitchen door, I found a maid, the head chef, and Charles happily munching on some duck that the chef had apparently given him.
“Well, well! Welcome to my domain, Clovis!”
The head chef, Jiro, made an exaggerated bow. He was a well-built man in his fifties, a true muscle-bound, middle-aged gentleman.
Cooking was physical labor, so many chefs had well-developed muscles, but even among them, Jiro stood out.
Despite his imposing appearance, he was actually a kind-hearted man. In fact, it was through Jiro that I learned not to judge people by their looks.
“Clovis, would you like a snack as well? I can whip something up quickly!”
“No, I’m fine. Actually, I was looking for Charles… but since I’m here, I have something I’d like you to make.”
“Ohh! That’s great! The mayonnaise you taught us last time was absolutely delicious! Truly, mayonnaise is a revolutionary sauce!”
“I’m glad you liked it.”
I had previously asked Jiro to recreate dishes from my previous life, and among them, the chefs especially loved mayonnaise. They were so excited about it that they had been working on developing new sauces using it.
But the sauce I wanted hadn’t been perfected yet, so I figured it was time to step in.
“Boil some eggs, mash them up with mayonnaise, and season with salt and pepper.”
“Mayonnaise and eggs together?! I never thought of that! I’ll make it right away!”
“I’m counting on you.”
“Break time is over! We’re making a new sauce!”
Jiro shouted orders to the other chefs, who quickly gathered around and started preparing a pot of water. He was always so passionate when it came to cooking.
“Looks like Charles finished his meal too. Let’s get out of here before we get in their way.”
“Nyaa~”
I picked up Charles and left the kitchen.
I found a sunny spot in the hall and sat down on a chair. Placing Charles on my lap, he pressed his paws against my chest and gave me a gentle headbutt, as if asking to be petted.
“Alright, alright.”
As I started petting him with my right hand, he curled up into a ball on my lap.
For some reason, the word Nyamonite popped into my head.
Basking in the warm sunlight, I stroked Charles’s soft body as he lay on my lap.
It was a peaceful and luxurious way to spend time.
Charles was a corpse, so his body was usually cold, but it was nice to feel him gradually warming up under the sunlight.
“Clovis, so this is where you were.”
While I was relaxing with Charles, Vio suddenly appeared.
“Vio? What’s up?”
“Ugh! Don’t you remember? This is the time for our sword training!”
“Oh… right.”
Now that she mentioned it, I did remember.
“Sorry, Charles. I have to go.”
“Bu-nyaa~”
I moved Charles from my lap to the chair, and he let out a small, dissatisfied sound.
“Alright, let’s go.”
“Yes.”
Lately, Vio and I had been practicing with real swords in the garden.
It was still a ways off, but I wanted to get stronger before venturing into dungeons.
“Huh?”
“What is it?”
As we headed to the entrance, Vio suddenly stopped and turned around.
Curious, I checked what it was and saw that Charles was waddling after us.
“Does Charles want to go outside too?”
“Bu-nyaa~”
“Oh!”
Vio picked up Charles, but he twisted his body and leapt straight into my arms.
I hurriedly caught him as he snuggled against my chest, rubbing his head into me.
“Looks like I got rejected. Charles really loves you, Clovis.”
“You think so?”
“Of course! He lets me pet him, but he never lets me hold him.”
“I see.”
Did Charles have some kind of clear personal boundary for different people?
And so, with Charles in tow, Vio and I headed to the garden for our sword training.
