The Necromance of Love and Death: Defeated Early in the Game, I Reincarnated as a Tragic Villainous Noble and Rebel Against the Scenario with My Beloved Using My Modern and Game Knowledge - Chapter 44
“No way――――”
The Big Metal Slime should have been obliterated by Vio’s all-out attack.
Yet there it was—still intact, though a hemisphere of its body had been sheared clean off.
What’s more, the silver liquid that had splattered around began to gather back toward the Big Metal Slime, as if it had a will of its own.
This isn’t good.
But—why did Vio slice the Big Metal Slime’s body in such a perfect hemisphere?
If she didn’t do it consciously, and it just happened naturally, then why?
“Ah――――!”
That’s when it hit me.
The center of the hemisphere was my fired mithril blade.
Could it be that the Big Metal Slime is so large that my lightning magic’s effect doesn’t reach far enough…?
“So that’s what it is…”
That makes sense. It would also explain why I took a counterattack right after my first strike.
“The problem is…”
Right. The issue is that even with Vio’s top-tier attack power, we still can’t pierce the Big Metal Slime’s defense once it’s weakened by my lightning magic.
And the reason for that is the narrow area of effect of my lightning spell.
I need to find a way to get Vio’s attack to reach the Big Metal Slime’s core.
Vio’s attack power is first-class. If she can hit the core, she should be able to destroy it.
But to do that, I need a wider-area lightning spell.
Unfortunately, all I have is Enchant Thunder. And no matter how much mana I pour into it, it only increases the duration—not the power or radius.
“What do I do…”
My thoughts were at a dead end. Like wandering in darkness in search of light.
My gaze dropped, and so did my hope.
That’s when I saw it.
“Wait—this might work…!”
I dashed toward the Big Metal Slime.
“Vio! Let’s do this!”
“But my attacks—!”
“This time, it’ll work! I believe in you, Vio!”
“Cro… Alright! I’ll give it everything I’ve got!”
This time—for sure—I’ll make sure Vio’s attack hits!
“Enchant Thunder!”
I cast Enchant Thunder on my left prosthetic arm, cloaking it in lightning.
Then, I pressed the button on my left wrist and lowered the hand module.
In response, a black, gleaming cannon barrel popped out.
“Fire!”
I sent a minuscule bolt of lightning into the cannon’s interior.
A deafening explosion shook the air immediately afterward.
A sharp pain tore through my shoulder.
As the smoke cleared and I gritted my teeth against the pain, I saw it—a small hole had been opened in the Big Metal Slime.
“Vio, now!”
“Yes!”
An impact louder than my cannon shot rang out.
Vio. She had charged the Big Metal Slime head-on.
With a mighty slash, she carved a large spherical hole into it.
Beyond that hole—I saw it. A red, jewel-like core glowing inside the Big Metal Slime.
“I see it! Vio!”
“Yes! Twin Fangs!”
Her twin blades closed in like a pair of scissors, slicing the Big Metal Slime’s core clean in half.
Twin Fangs—a basic dual-sword skill, the second one you learn. But when used by Vio, it becomes an unstoppable force that nothing can withstand.
The red-glowing core, now cleaved, lost its light.
The Big Metal Slime’s body also lost its metallic luster and melted into a brown puddle, as though it had rapidly rusted away.
“Phew…”
We finally did it…
“Cro!”
“Whoops—”
Vio ran up and leapt into me. I caught her and spun one and a half times from the momentum.
If I just stood there and took it head-on, we’d both fall. That’d be lame.
I’m getting pretty good at this whole catching-people skill.
“We did it! We actually beat that huge slime!”
“Yeah. You were amazing, Vio.”
“It’s all thanks to you, Cro! That loud boom—what was that? What did you do?”
“Well…”
I showed her my left prosthetic arm.
“This is…?”
She must have noticed it looked different than usual. She curiously inspected it.
“This prosthetic has a hidden mechanism. When I lower the wrist part, this cannon barrel pops out.”
“This round thing here? How do you use it?”
In this world, cannons and guns don’t exist yet, so explaining is tricky.
“Uh, well… I cause an explosion inside this barrel to launch a projectile called a shell with great force. This time, I enchanted the shell with lightning.”
“Wow…”
Vio gazed at the barrel with fascination, still not quite understanding.
I had enchanted the shell I launched. Thanks to Enchant Thunder, the shell ignored the Big Metal Slime’s hardness and burrowed deep inside.
Once embedded, it activated the lightning spell from within.
The area of effect of Enchant Thunder is about one meter. If it goes off on the surface, it only burns a meter deep.
So instead, I enchanted the shell and launched it—embedding the center of the lightning effect inside the slime’s body. That way, the spell could carve out about two meters’ worth of damage.
And the plan worked. Vio’s charge exposed the core.
Once exposed, all we had to do was destroy it.
It was a risky move—but it paid off. Plus, it served as a successful test of my prosthetic’s cannon mode.
All in all, a perfect result.
