124. Heaven’s Potion

From the smartphone, came the sound of heavy knocking on a door. Immediately after, a slightly flustered voice of Aihara could be heard.

“Hey, Jii-chan! Isn’t it taking too long in the toilet!? Did something bad happen, like collapsing inside!? I’m really worried! At least reply, Jii-chaaan!!”

“Ohh, sorry Rion! I’ll be out soon!”

“Huh…? N-no, wait, Jii-chan, that’s seriously bad! If you’re going to come out, wait a bit until I’m away!”

“Tch, that’s not it! …Sorry, I’ll hang up…”

With that said, Juuzou’s call abruptly ended. But really, that Aihara, always so noisy… 

As I imagined the scene on the other side of the smartphone, I inadvertently let out a sigh. It seemed the landlady noticed and teased me with a whistle.

“Huuh, is that granddaughter of Juuzou? She seems quite noisy, quite a different type from Seina-chan.”

“Yes, grandma. She’s very lively, cheerful, and sociable… a really lovely woman.”

Isezaki-san answered with a smile. But to call Aihara a lovely woman was debatable.

Various memories suddenly flashed through my mind like a slideshow. Since Aihara joined the company and I became her mentor, there were truly many things that happened. 

From coming to the office with gal-style makeup, to calling our superiors by nicknames, to handing out flashy business cards to our clients… I remember feeling quite exasperated when she started taking photos of our lunch at business meetings for social media.

But the landlady, who didn’t know about those struggles, just watched me with curiosity.

“Ohh… It’s rare for Matsunaga to speak so negatively. I see, so you both have an informal relationship, huh?”

“Yes, that’s right. You and Riori-san are really close. I’m really envious, so envious, that I feel like I might get jealous. Hehehe…”

Isezaki-san smiled even more. Somehow, it was a little scary.

“That’s not it. She’s so familiar with her senior, me, so I just reciprocate accordingly…”

As I was somewhat intimidated by Isezaki-san’s intensity and trying to justify myself, my own smartphone beeped this time.

With a chuckle, the landlady tried to leave her seat. But I stopped her.

“No, no, since you’re here, please stay and relax. Oh, why not have some more hamburger? It turned out delicious, and I’d really like grandma to try it too.”

“Oh, is that so? Well then, I don’t mind. I’d love to.”

As the landlady settled back into her seat, I was about to take out another hamburger from the storage—when Isezaki-san spoke up.

“Um, um, Sir? If it’s alright with you, could I have seconds too? I believe there was one more that you made… so…”

“Of course, but are you sure about your stomach? You don’t usually eat this much, right?”

“Sir’s homemade dishes are irresistible! The more you eat, the more you crave…,” murmured Isezaki-san, her cheeks flushed, as she spoke dreamily. Well, that sounded like there’s some dangerous ingredient oozing out from me… 

Still, I was genuinely pleased with the compliment. I happily took out the hamburger from the storage and served Isezaki-san and the landlady.

And so, I enjoyed a meal with the two members of the Isezaki family.

Several days passed without anything particularly eventful happening. Aihara sent multiple messages via LANE, suggesting the three of us hang out together, but perhaps due to the impending work in the other world, I wasn’t in the mood, and we ended up putting her off.

Then, on this day, I leaped to Lady Levia’s castle in the other world, checking my desk for any messages. There, I found a note that read, “Preparations are complete. You can go anytime.”
