“Whoaaa, whooooooo!”
“Eeeeeeek!”
“N-no, no, no, no! Not this way!”
From high above us, screams echoed—those of Gandor, Notos, and Seriphos.
Why could we hear them from the sky? Well, because they were flying up there.
Currently, they were strapped with belt-like objects made in the dimensional space around their chests and waists, allowing me to manipulate them and have them soar through the skies. It’s sort of like having human drones.
Ideally, I wanted to create something much safer, but controlling multiple dimensional spaces simultaneously and separately had its limits.
Nevertheless, they had assured me they would do anything, and besides, they were top-notch adventurers. This should be no problem, I thought.
And so, I controlled our human drone team to search for the entrance to the magic stone mine.
Although the base was surrounded by steep mountains, we couldn’t see the entrance to the mine from our vantage point. That’s why I had them searching from above.
The three chosen for the human drone squad would be the reserve team for the impending infiltration of the magic stone mine.
Gandor was too injured to swing his axe properly, and Notos had run out of magical power.
Seriphos, in addition to being on the verge of magical exhaustion from the battle with the Orc King Zombie, had also severely damaged his beloved sword. Despite this, Seriphos insisted on going to the mine, and it was only after persuasion from Regina that he relented.
As for the remaining two, Regina and Colin, they had agreed to accompany me. Regina was an excellent scout in the tunnels, and Colin was a dependable guard. I was grateful to have them along.
And so, we continued to zip around with the human drone for a while—
Gandor and Notos began to slump, becoming silent.
Should we take a break? I was just thinking that when Seriphos, with a tearful voice, reported the discovery of the mine entrance.
—
“Regina, stop saying you’ll do anything so casually…”
Seriphos, with his handsome looks ruined by his messy hair, shot Regina a resentful look. By the way, Gandor and Notos were still lying on the ground, motionless.
“S-sorry. I didn’t think he’d do something like that…”
While saying so, Regina’s face twitched as she glanced at me. It seems I may have gone a bit too far.
But thanks to that, we were able to quickly find the entrance. I’m really grateful to them.
“Thank you very much. I’ll make sure to repay you when we get back. Well then, Regina-san, shall we go right away?”
“Ah, I see. But how are we going to move to the entrance of the mine? Are we going to use that thing they used earlier!?”
Colin looked up at me with hopeful eyes. Come to think of it, Colin seemed to be watching the human drone flying with sparkling eyes.
“No, it’s different. I’m absolutely against that. It’s scary.”
“Eh?”
Seriphos showed a sad expression at my immediate response.
I accidentally let it slip, but I pretended not to notice Seriphos’ gaze and continued speaking.
“U-um… If we’re going to move all three of us at once, another magic would be better… Regina-san, Colin-chan, could you come a little closer?”
After confirming that the two were closer, I activated the magic while touching their shoulders.
“Here we go—Levitation!”
The three of us floated gently into the air.
This was the only space-time magic I had learned during the preparation period for the journey, allowing me to float in the air and move as I pleased—Levitation.
If the destination were visible from here, I could use Leap Warp to teleport to it, but since it was hidden from view, Levitation seemed more appropriate.
As Regina muttered while repeatedly stomping her feet, checking the ground below her floating figure, “Wow, you can even use that kind of magic… You really are too valuable to be just a merchant, Matsunaga-san.”
“No, I’ve come to realize that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses… Well then, Seriphos-san. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
“Yes, leave it to me. Matsunaga-san, there are things I want to say, so please come back safely…”
“Haha…”
While responding with a wry smile to Seriphos, who was seeing us off with dead eyes, I steadily increased our altitude, heading towards the magic stone mine.
—
“There it is! I can see the hole!”
In the direction Colin pointed, there was indeed the entrance to the magic stone mine.
However, the pillars supporting the entrance were worn out from exposure to the elements. Furthermore, there seemed to have been a collapse in the ground, with soil piled up around my knees and broken trees scattered around.
As I had heard before, this mine had not been used for many years. I thought it was amazing that Seriphos was able to find such an inconspicuous entrance.
Approaching cautiously, Regina gave me an uneasy look.
“But, is this okay?”
“…? What do you mean, ‘okay’?”
“…Well, it’s a bit late to bring it up now, but aren’t there other entrances to the mine? There’s no guarantee we can reach that workshop the demon mentioned from here, right? That’s what worries me.”
“I see… If that’s the case, it’s fine. I have a feeling this is the right place. Maybe because I sense that Miss Isezaki is here…”
I felt that presence.
I couldn’t say it with absolute certainty, but I had a strange sensation that a thin, long thread extending from me was reaching deep into the mine, connecting to Miss Isezaki ahead—
“Hmm, is it the bond between husband and wife? You two seem to get along well… However, when you’re an adventurer, you can’t underestimate those kinds of instincts. Alright, then let’s trust Matsunaga-san and go inside.”
Saying that, Regina took a small lantern from her hip bag—
“No, let’s use this here.”
I spoke to Regina and took out headlamps for everyone from the storage. These were not the ones used on cars, but head-mounted flashlights.
I had purchased them from a home center, considering that there might be nighttime work when setting up the fort.
After handing the headlamps to the two and explaining how to use them, Regina pressed the button on the headlamp while her eyes widened.
“This is an amazing magical tool… The brightness is incredible, and above all, it’s great that both hands are free. It’s the best magical tool for adventurers! Hey, Matsunaga-san, if it’s okay with you, can we buy this from you after this is over?”
“If that’s all you need, I’d be happy to.”
“Really!? Yes, I’ll try asking! Alright, then let’s go save your wife with gusto!”
Regina raised her voice with determination and patted my back. And so, we crossed over the debris, relying on the light from the headlamps, and entered the pitch-black tunnel of the magic stone mine.
