Senpai and I walked briskly along the main street of the town, guided by Seina-chan.

When walking together, it becomes clear that when Seina-chan walks, people around her are captivated, glancing back, doing double takes—her presence is undeniable. Seriously, it’s amazing.

But Seina-chan doesn’t seem to care about the attention she gets, instead focusing on the piece of paper in her hand, staring at it intently as she leads us to our destination.

It seems like the place Seina-chan wants to go is somewhere she hasn’t been before, as she consults the map and notes written on the paper to guide us.

By the way, isn’t it rare these days to see hand-drawn maps instead of using a smartphone? Oh yeah, I should ask her if we could exchange LANE later.

So, we walked through the town, attracting the attention of passersby for a while, and then turned from the main street into a side alley. Isn’t it miraculous that we haven’t been hit on by guys until now?

After walking for another five minutes along a less crowded street, Seina-chan suddenly stopped in her tracks. Huh, are we here?

The shop in front of us is… um, probably an arcade.

Though it’s called an arcade, it’s not the lively type where high school girls come to take purikura photos; rather, it’s a deserted-looking place with few people inside.

(Note: “Purikura” is a term used to refer to photo sticker booths that are popular in Japan. Users can take pictures in these booths and then customize them with various decorations before printing them out as stickers)

It kind of gives off the vibe of the game corner at a rundown hot spring resort that I visited during university. They probably have ping pong tables here too.

“Oh, so this is the arcade Isezaki-san was talking about…”

Senpai murmured with interest as he peered into the shop, to which Seina-chan responded eagerly.

“Yes! This is a game center that mainly deals with discontinued games. I heard about it from a senior in my club recently, and I’ve been wanting to visit soon.”

“Wow, Seina-chan, I didn’t know you were into these old games. Why’s that?”

Usually, aren’t high school girls all about following trends? Of course, there are exceptions, but that’s how it was for me and the gals around me.

I just asked out of curiosity, but Seina-chan began to speak in a surprisingly earnest tone.

“Riori-san, you may already know, but my parents passed away about ten years ago.”

“Huh!? Uh, yeah. I knew that, but…”

I heard that story from Grandpa.

When Seina-chan was little, her parents died in a car accident, and she went missing too. Then, six years later, she was found, a truly mysterious incident.

Because of various things surrounding that, the Jounai family distanced themselves from her, and it seems like she even changed her last name to Isezaki.

It’s not something I wanted to bring up lightly, and I was surprised she mentioned it herself.

“Among my father’s belongings, there were several video game cartridges. When I asked Grandma about them, she said they were from my father’s college days.”

While we were still taken aback by this sudden and unexpected conversation, Seina-chan continued.

“For my father during his college days, games were just a way to relax, and he didn’t play them very passionately. However, I wanted to feel closer to my father’s memory, so I asked Grandma if I could play the games he left behind… That’s how I started playing retro games. Of course, now I enjoy them as a regular hobby, though. Hehe.”

Seina-chan smiled nostalgically, with no hint of sadness in her expression. I don’t think she’s still dwelling on it, but…

“Se-Seina-chan? I mean, I feel weird saying this after you told me, but was it really okay to share such an important story with someone you’re talking to properly for the first time today!?”

However, Seina-chan looked puzzled and said, “Huh… Did I do something wrong? I want to get along with Riori-san, and for that, I want you to know about me… a lot. So please don’t worry about it.” She smiled kindly, just like before.

…But for some reason, her eyes seemed to glint suspiciously, sending a shiver down my spine. Well, it’s probably just my imagination.

So, to dispel the awkward atmosphere, I raised my voice cheerfully.

“Oh, okay! I see! Well then, I definitely want to be friends with Seina-chan too! Alright, if that’s the case, then today, big sis here will treat you at the arcade! Play as much as you want!”

“Well, thank you very much. Then I’ll gladly accept your treat, Riori-san.”

“Yeah yeah, I’ll treat you loads! I’ll show you the power of a working adult to a high schooler!”

“Seriously, you’re treating us, adults? Then I’ll have yours too, please.”

Senpai chimed in promptly, and I responded by making an X with my hands.

“What are you saying, Senpai? You’re definitely not getting any treats!”

“What’s wrong with treating even a jobless person?”

“Too bad, old man. Hehe.”

Senpai pouted, and Seina-chan chuckled softly. For now, it seemed like the awkward atmosphere from earlier had disappeared.

Alright, since we’re here, might as well have some fun! The games here all seem unfamiliar, but that’s what makes it interesting!

“Let’s go, everyone! Follow me!”

With a burst of energy, I thrust my right hand up and led Seina-chan and Senpai into the arcade.
