The Neighborhood High School Girl, Miss Isezaki, Is the Great Saintess Returned from Another World~ And I, Suddenly Awakened as Her Exclusive Mana Supply Uncle, Travel Between Earth and Another World with Time-Space Magic~ - 23. Retirement
23. Retirement
“Hey, Senpai, are you really quitting? Can’t you change your mind and stay? If Senpai quits, won’t the boss get even tougher on us? I don’t want that!”
Beside me, making a fuss while I’m working on documents in the office, is Riori Aihara. She’s still in her second year at the company and hasn’t quite shed her newbie vibe.
“I don’t give a damn. I’ve decided to quit this company and help out with my relatives’ business. I’m not changing my mind about quitting.”
She keeps persistently asking why I’m quitting, so I explained about helping out with my relatives’ business. Of course, I don’t have any relatives like that.
“That’s too sudden, seriously. Even the boss was taken aback, right?”
“Well, I guess as a working adult, it’s a bit questionable, but I want to quit the company today even if I have to use my paid leave. So, can’t you just leave me alone and let me finish the handover work properly? I’m making documents to quit today, so if you’re going to be a bother, go somewhere else.”
I shake her off firmly, but Aihara persists stubbornly.
“Hey, hey, Senpai. Is there still an opening for that job with your relatives? You can get a young talent like me cheaply if you act now, you know?”
Resting her chin in her hand, Aihara strikes a confident pose.
When she first joined, Aihara’s gal-like makeup made everyone uncomfortable, but now she looks just about like a working adult in appearance only. Well, her personality hasn’t changed much.
“Sigh… What nonsense are you spouting? Come on, get back to work.”
Because I was in charge of her training last year, she seems oddly attached to me, but I’d be troubled if she said she’s quitting just because I am.
Besides, for some reason, if there’s anyone who can handle things better than me in this company, it’s probably her. Maybe it’s because she’s got a good personality and face, but she’s especially popular among the guys.
Aihara furrows her brow in dissatisfaction but finally moves away from me.
“Geez… Senpai, we’ll have a farewell party another day, so make sure to come, okay?”
“Yeah, I’ll make sure to come.”
My relationship with my boss is terrible, but I’m not on bad terms with my juniors and some of my peers. I’m truly grateful that they seem to somewhat regret my resignation.
While feeling thankful for that, I continue to focus on filling out documents, shooing away Aihara who keeps appearing repeatedly—
In the end, I couldn’t leave on time for the first time in a while, but I was able to quit the company safely. Now I’m unemployed and free.
The next day, I found myself at a 100-yen shop. It feels strange to wander around in casual clothes on a weekday afternoon.
Some people mock or ridicule the unemployed as “invincible people,” but it seems that the feeling of omnipotence doesn’t come from being unemployed. Although I have some savings, not having income is still unsettling.
So, I decided to start by making money in another world. I’m still undecided on how to earn a living in this world, but I think I can put that off for now.
In any case, my life will mainly revolve around the other world for a while, in order to learn about it. First, I need to earn money in the other world.
To do that, I came to the 100-yen shop to look for things that might sell well in the other world. If I fail to sell 100-yen shop items, it won’t hurt my wallet much.
With that in mind, I headed straight for the 100-yen lighter section and decided to buy a bunch of them, relying on the information I got from Isezaki-san. According to her, in the other world, there aren’t compact items like 100-yen lighters that can handle fire like magical stoves.
Products that sell well in the other world are naturally those that either don’t exist in the other world or have qualities that are difficult to achieve in the other world.
It would be nice if there were other items like 100-yen lighters.
Heading straight to the 100-yen lighter section, I put a bunch of them in my shopping basket—leaving a few for other customers—and then set off to look for my next prey within the store.
