The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 12
Boars that inhabit the forest occasionally attack the village, but since the village started raising boars, monsters attacking the village have ceased.
“Are they keeping watch without us knowing?” That said, the fields outside the village are occasionally ravaged, so we hunt them when necessary.
The boars raised in the village don’t seem to care much, even when similar types of boars or other monsters are defeated and brought to the village.
On the contrary, when a monster enters their sight, they charge at it at full speed or trample it, seemingly trying to protect the villagers.
Such loyalty makes me want to name them. But since they live as “boars,” perhaps keeping the name “Boar” is fitting, though it might get confusing.
“Today, I hunted this boar myself. I got the best cuts, so let’s dig in!”
While we were at the guild, Reco went outside the village and managed to hunt down a giant boar. He had the butcher carve it up and brought back enough for us to eat, selling the rest to the butcher.
The villagers were delighted to have boar meat again after such a long time.
Violeta, inspired by the large cuts Reco brought back, got to work in the kitchen.
Dinner was an incredibly delicious stew. Violeta’s cooking is always wonderful—it’s what I consider “home cooking.”
The next day, I stayed home to review dance steps and academic lessons. It’s necessary to avoid forgetting them. The day after that, I played tag with the boars and later practiced magic.
When I enter the academy, I’ll be in the Knight Department, where it’s assumed I have no magical power, so there won’t be any practical magic classes. Instead, the magic theory classes are intended to teach countermeasures for combat against magic users.
The following day, we worked on raising our guild rank. We took a carriage to the neighboring town as usual to pick up requests posted on the guild’s bulletin board.
This time, the quest was a C-rank request to subdue a Forest Bear. These bears, which live in the southern forest, are massive and aggressive.
What makes them tricky is that they are often found near Killer Bee hives. While their ferocity is comparable to King Boars, they frequently destroy and eat the hives. Attacking a Forest Bear risks provoking a swarm of angry bees, making it especially dangerous.
Because of this, Forest Bears are ranked higher than other creatures. Unfortunately, Falce and I don’t have a high enough rank to accept this request on our own.
We entered the forest and started searching for the Forest Bear.
“Falce, I’ve never fought a Forest Bear before. Do you know what they’re like?”
“I’ve seen one—from a distance. It looked tough, so I ran away immediately. But now, I feel like we can take it down.”
“Really? Let’s compete to see who can find it first!”
“You’re on!”
After saying that, I separated from Falce and decided to look for the Killer Bees first. If there are bees around, the bear is likely nearby.
While searching for tree hollows, I heard Falce calling out to me.
“Roah! Over here!”
Falce sounded panicked. I rushed to him and saw a massive Forest Bear attacking a man.
I immediately alerted our teacher.
“Teacher, someone’s being attacked!”
I shouted as I pulled out a pepper bomb.
A pepper bomb releases a loud noise and a cloud of chili powder when thrown, disorienting the enemy. It’s standard equipment for adventurers, useful for either attacking or fleeing.
I hurled the pepper bomb at the Forest Bear’s face with all my might.
With a loud bang, red powder filled the air. The Forest Bear stopped its attack, pawing at its eyes to remove the irritant.
Falce used this moment to pull the injured man to safety.
“He’s alive! He’s still breathing!”
Hearing this, Reco and the teacher stepped forward, positioning themselves in front of Falce.
“He looks furious,” Reco said.
“Indeed. He’s already aggressive, and now his food’s been stolen, plus the pepper bomb. Falce, place the injured man under that tree and prepare for combat. Roah, you too. We’ll handle this together.”
Following the teacher’s orders, I reinforced my body to the maximum, while Falce ignited his sword with flames.
The Forest Bear charged at us, rearing up to strike the teacher.
Falce slashed at its right arm, and I leaped behind it, aiming for its heart. Magic stones are often near the heart, so I was careful not to damage it. Reco cut its tendons, and the teacher dealt a diagonal slash. The Forest Bear collapsed.
“Did we get it?”
“Yes, it’s down,” Reco confirmed, sheathing his bloodied sword.
We rushed to check on the injured man. Though covered in bl00d and barely moving, he was still alive. The teacher immediately cast healing magic, taking about five minutes—much longer than usual.
“Teacher Arlen, what should we do now?”
“Falce, use wind magic to carry the injured man. Roah, assist him. Though his wounds are healed, he’s lost a lot of bl00d and remains unconscious, so be careful.”
“Understood.”
I used cleansing magic to clean the injured man’s body. Now that I could see him properly, he seemed young, likely an adventurer on a quest.
Falce used wind magic to lift and transport the man. Meanwhile, Reco tied up the defeated Forest Bear and dragged it behind us as we returned to the guild.
The guild staff guided us to an infirmary upon seeing the injured man.
“Thank you for helping him. He entered the southern forest on a request and didn’t return by the expected time, so we were worried. You even healed him—thank you so much.”
The guild master listened as the teacher explained the situation, and we left after completing our report.
