The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 14
“Lady Marloa, it’s time for you to return to the royal capital.”
The words I dreaded to hear finally came from Violeta. Everyone was present—Yubert, Reco, Falce, and Teacher Levain. I forced myself to respond.
“…I see. But I wish I could stay here forever.”
“My lady, unfortunately, that’s not possible. Falce will accompany you, so you’ll be alright.”
“…Violeta, will you come to the capital with me?”
Violeta smiled, though there was a hint of sadness in her expression.
“Regrettably, I’ll be staying here in the village.”
She then glanced over at Yubert.
“Violeta, does that mean you’re going to live here with Yubert?”
“I hadn’t mentioned it to you, my lady, but just the other day, Violeta finally gave me a good answer,” Yubert said with an unusually bright smile.
“Really!? Congratulations! I’m so happy! You’re like a father and mother to me. Right, Falce?”
I turned to Falce, seeking his agreement, but he looked away. Did he oppose Violeta marrying Yubert? After a moment’s pause, he muttered softly.
“…Congratulations, Mom.”
“Falce, aren’t you happy about it?”
Still avoiding eye contact, Falce replied.
“…Of course I’m happy. Yubert’s going to be my dad, after all. It’s just… I finally get to have a dad, and now I have to leave for the royal capital. It’s… lonely.”
It seemed Falce was too overwhelmed by a mix of happiness, embarrassment, and sadness to look at us.
“Falce, you can always come back whenever you want. Do what you love, and if you ever feel like it, return to the village. We’ll always be here waiting for you,” Violeta said, standing up and gently embracing him.
“Mom, I’m not a kid anymore!” Falce protested, flustered, which made everyone laugh.
What a happy moment this was.
I couldn’t help but wonder how much joy I would feel if Falce and I were truly family. If only I could stay here with everyone.
But I know that’s not possible.
“I’ll return to the royal capital with them. I plan to use the money I’ve saved here to enjoy myself,” Reco said nonchalantly, earning a laugh from everyone for being so like himself.
Then, Teacher Levain, who had been silent until now, spoke up.
“I’ve taught both Falce and Lady Marloa everything I could, so I’ll be heading out on another journey soon.”
“Teacher, you’re not coming back to the capital with us?”
“My job is to travel as an adventurer and scout for promising individuals, not to stay in the royal capital.”
“Wait, really? I always thought your job was working in the capital and adventuring as a hobby. I assumed you taught us on a whim while taking a break from your official work.”
“No, my main task is finding talented individuals and informing the capital so they can be brought there and trained by specialists. But I saw potential in you two and decided to teach you myself for three years.
You’ve both grown far beyond my expectations. I can proudly say there aren’t many in the capital stronger than you two. Right, Reco?”
“Exactly. They’re weaker than me, of course, but they’ve got quite the talent,” Reco said with a smirk.
“Really!? I’m so happy!” I exclaimed.
“Even in the capital, don’t neglect your training. You can also earn some pocket money at the guild during breaks. Unlike this village, the capital’s guild has more varied and rewarding requests. But always go together; don’t go alone,” Teacher warned.
“Why can’t we go alone?” Falce asked.
“No matter how strong you are, you lack experience. Don’t get overconfident. If possible, call Reco and venture out as a trio—it could be fun,” Teacher said with a grin.
With that, our family meeting ended. Falce and I went to our rooms to prepare for the journey to the royal capital. Though we could technically commute from the marquis’ estate, both Falce and I would be staying in the academy dorms.
Violeta told me my father, the marquis, intended for me to enroll in the Ladies’ Department, but I planned to join the Knight Department. Teacher Levain, who had connections at the academy, said he would arrange for my enrollment in the Knight Department.
My father showed little interest in me and might refuse to pay tuition if I joined anything other than the Ladies’ Department. While nobles paid high tuition to secure admission, commoners had to pass entrance exams to enroll, albeit with reduced fees.
Top ten students, however, received free meals, boarding, and tuition.
Falce, being my servant as the marquis’ daughter, would have his tuition covered by the marquis. Still, to avoid any risk of losing his position, Falce planned to take the Knight Department’s entrance exam.
As for me, I intended to take the exam as a commoner to secure a spot, just in case my father refused to pay my tuition for the Knight Department.
Teacher Levain assured us we’d pass easily, but Falce and I continued studying diligently to prepare.
If the worst happened—if my father refused to pay and I failed to rank in the top ten—we’d have to earn our own living expenses. That’s why we planned to rely on the guild.
I wonder what the royal capital will be like.
Having grown up in this village, I knew almost nothing about it, and my nerves were already on edge just thinking about it.
“Yubert, Violeta, we’re off. Teacher Levain, thank you for everything. Once I graduate, let’s go on a monster hunt together again.”
“Of course, Lady Marloa. It’s only four years—make the most of it,” Teacher said.
Falce and I climbed into the marquis’ carriage that had come to pick us up, with Reco taking the driver’s seat.
A reunion with my father. Life as a noble.
What will the next four years bring me?
As we approached the marquis’ estate, an inexplicable heaviness settled in my heart.
