The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 23
“Marloa, over here!”
Fars waved his hand to get my attention.
“Was I late? Sorry about that.”
“No, I just got here too. So, what do you think about trying the noble dining hall? Should we check it out?”
There were still very few students in the dormitory, as most of the senior students had returned home for the long break. The dining hall was sparsely populated.
“Yes, let’s. It’s a special occasion, and we might not get many chances to come here,” I said.
“You know, you can always eat there since you’re a noble,” Fars pointed out.
“Oh, but since you’re my attendant, you can eat there with me too, right?”
“Fair enough!”
We headed toward the noble dining hall, driven by curiosity about what it had to offer.
The hall was… luxurious.
Although it was the same size as the commoner dining hall, every table was adorned with intricate decorations. The noble dining hall had far fewer patrons, allowing for more spacious seating arrangements. It felt like the perfect setting for an elegant meal.
“Fars, it’s so beautiful here. I wonder what kind of food they serve.”
“Marloa, you’re unusually excited. Calm down,” he said, laughing.
“You’re right. I guess I got a little carried away because I’m excited to see the menu,” I admitted, smiling.
At the entrance, we were greeted by the dining hall manager, who took our order.
We chose the “A Set,” which was meat-based, while the “B Set” focused on fish, and the “C Set” was vegetarian. Each set included a main dish, side dishes, soup, bread or pasta, and dessert.
The specifics of each set varied daily, and the meals were served directly to your table.
This was yet another contrast to the commoner dining hall.
“Fars, this meat—it’s not from a magical beast!”
“Of course not. This isn’t the village. Nobles don’t eat magical beasts,” Fars said with a smirk.
As we chatted over our meal, a voice called out from behind us.
“Did you just say magical beasts? Have you eaten magical beast meat before?”
Turning around, we saw a tall, bespectacled upperclassman standing there.
“Yes, we used to hunt and eat them regularly,” I replied.
“Fascinating. You hunted them yourselves?”
“Yes, magical beasts were a vital part of our livelihood. By the way, who are you?”
“Oh, forgive me for not introducing myself earlier. I’m Arnold Gauss, a third-year in the Alchemy Department. It’s a pleasure to meet you,” he said.
We quickly put down our utensils and greeted him properly.
“Apologies for the lack of formality. I’m Marloa Efsée, a first-year in the Knight Department. This is my attendant, Fars, also a first-year in the Knight Department. Mr. Gauss, are you interested in magical beasts?”
“Just call me Arnold. As an alchemy student, I frequently use magical beast materials and sometimes hunt them myself,” he explained.
“I see. For us, hunting magical beasts was mostly for food and to raise our guild rank,” I said.
“You’re part of a guild? What rank are you?”
“We’re currently D-Rank. We plan to reach C-Rank while we’re enrolled,” I replied.
“Interesting. I look forward to seeing your progress. Oh, I’m sorry for interrupting your meal. Marloa, Fars, I’ll see you around,” Arnold said before leaving swiftly.
“That was… unexpected,” I said, watching him go.
“Who knows? Let’s finish our meal before it gets cold,” Fars replied.
We enjoyed our lamb steaks and returned to the dorm, deciding to visit the academy training grounds the next day.
Training is something you should never neglect.
The following morning, after breakfast, we headed to the academy’s training grounds. As expected from an institution that produces Royal Knights annually, the facilities were expansive and well-maintained.
“Hey, Fars,” I said, pointing to a section of the training grounds.
“What’s up, Marloa?”
“Aren’t those weights for wearing on your body?”
“…They sure are. I have a bad feeling about this,” he muttered.
“Oh, don’t be like that. Imagine how much stronger we could become by wearing those all the time! Besides, we’ll need to adapt to the armor we’re picking up tomorrow, right?”
“A noble lady talking like a musclehead…”
“I’m not a musclehead. I just think there’s a limit to how much progress we can make with our usual training. And if these weights are here, it means other people must use them too,” I reasoned.
I spotted a sheet of paper that read, “To use, please sign your name here.” Without hesitation, I wrote my name and opened a box containing brand-new wrist and ankle weights, handing a set to Fars.
“Hey, are we really allowed to just take these?”
“Of course. The sign clearly says we can use them,” I replied confidently.
“Now that you mention it, I guess it does. Alright, fine,” Fars said, relenting as he started strapping on the weights. I followed suit.
Each weight wasn’t too heavy on its own. We decided we’d gradually increase the weight as we got used to it.
After completing our usual training routine of running, sit-ups, and sparring, we finished our morning session.
Tomorrow, we’d pick up our new armor. I was looking forward to seeing it. After submitting a request to leave the dorm for the day, Fars and I called it a day.
Back in my room, I spent the rest of my time reviewing and preparing lessons per Revien-sensei’s advice. Since I’d achieved a high rank, I wanted to maintain it.
There’s no point in slacking off now.
