The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 25
From the next day onward, morning-only classes began. I had assumed that attending the academy meant studying all day, but that wasn’t the case. Apparently, club activities took place in the afternoon.
Of course, participation was optional, but most students in the Mage and Alchemist Departments joined clubs to conduct research.
“Fars, are you planning to join the knight club?”
“Hmm? Me? I’m not sure yet.”
“What about you, Marloa?”
“Me? I plan to head to the guild, complete quests, and rank up, of course.”
“Then I’ll do that too.”
“Are you sure? If you want to become a knight, joining the knight club makes it easier to stand out, right?”
“It’s just going to be chores for first-year students anyway, isn’t it? Plus, I want to raise my guild rank, and I’ll need some extra spending money too.”
“What? You’re my attendant, so you’re already getting paid, aren’t you?”
“It’s better to save money when you can.”
“Well, I suppose you’re right.”
I couldn’t help feeling a little annoyed at how practical Fars was. I had expected him to be more reckless with his money.
“Alright then, let’s head out as soon as we drop off our bags.”
We placed our belongings in our rooms, packed our adventurer gear into our backpacks, equipped our armor, strapped on our swords, and got permission to leave before heading out into the city. I already knew the location of the guild thanks to Reko.
Walking down a new path for the first time was thrilling.
Everything I saw was fresh and exciting!
The royal capital’s guild was impressive—a massive building with a big sign labeled “Guild.” Adventurers streamed in and out, and we joined the flow, entering the building.
Contrary to my expectations that the guild would be dominated by men, there were all sorts of people, including magicians and archers, and plenty of women as well. The bulletin board was covered with requests.
I even spotted an S-rank request, something I’d never seen in my hometown.
Seeing so many requests pinned to the board for the first time was a little overwhelming.
There were plenty of C-rank requests, too. In my hometown guild, the requests were mostly for subjugation missions, but in the royal capital, there were tasks like guarding a noble’s estate or locating lost items.
“Hey, Fars, which one should we pick? Something we can finish in a few hours would be good, right?”
Fars and I scrutinized the requests before finally selecting one: subjugating thirty Red Rabbits that had been overbreeding outside the capital.
Apparently, they were a type of magical beast commonly served in certain eateries. Due to their rapid reproduction, regular culling was necessary. They were aggressive, so caution was advised.
We took the request to the guild counter.
“Oh, students, huh? This one’s perfect for ranking up. Good luck out there. Oh, and when you’re done, take the rabbits to the guild’s collection point by the east gate.”
“Got it!”
We bowed to the receptionist and headed toward the east gate. The city gates were well-guarded to prevent intrusions by magical beasts.
Exiting the city required only a guild card, but reentry was stricter. Residents of the capital could show their cards, but merchants and visitors had to undergo a background check via a crystal to ensure they had no criminal history. This often caused long queues.
“Students, eh? Take care out there,” the gatekeeper called out.
We presented our cards, bowed, and exited the gate. I was glad we had decided to wear our academy knight uniforms.
“Fars, let’s run to the destination, shall we?”
“Yeah, it’s a bit far, so that’s a good idea.”
We ran toward the forest. Although we kept up our training regularly, running through a new and changing landscape felt exhilarating.
After about fifteen minutes, we reached a fork in the main road, took the narrower second path, and kept going straight.
The main road was well-maintained, but the paths through the forest were cleared in a way that occasionally attracted magical beasts, as noted on the request form.
Soon, we spotted a sign that read “Red Rabbit Farm.”
The farm was an open area carved out of the forest, enclosed by fences. There were at least 200 Red Rabbits inside, their numbers astonishing. Each rabbit was about knee-high—larger than I had expected.
We needed to take down thirty of them.
We drew our swords and charged. The Red Rabbits reacted in various ways, some fleeing and others charging at us. We dodged their attacks and struck from the side. While they didn’t put up much resistance, their size and numbers made the task challenging.
We threw the rabbits we caught over the fence to keep them separate from the others, ensuring no interference when we transported them later.
After completing the hunt, we tied the thirty rabbits together with rope from our backpacks. The sheer volume was overwhelming. Without physical reinforcement, carrying them would have been impossible. After ensuring no one was watching, I used purification magic on both Fars and myself to clean our uniforms of bl00d.
Fars used wind magic to levitate the tied rabbits.
“Fars, you’re amazing. It looks much more stable than before.”
“Yeah, Master Levain said it’s a skill every attendant should know and made me practice. It’s really handy for things like this.”
We walked back to the city gates. Next to the east gate was the magical beast collection counter the receptionist had mentioned.
“We’ve brought the thirty Red Rabbits as requested.”
“Let’s take a look.”
The man at the counter appeared to be an expert butcher, with a burly, bear-like physique. I was slightly startled, but I kept it to myself.
“You’ve done a great job with these. The bloodletting is expertly done, too. I’ll increase the purchase price for you.”
After thoroughly inspecting the rabbits, the man wrote something down on a piece of paper.
“Take this to the guild. Hand it to the receptionist to complete your request.”
“Thank you very much!”
We took the paper and returned to the guild. At the counter where we had accepted the quest, we handed over the paper and our guild cards.
“Welcome back. That was quick. The request is complete. The payment has been split evenly and deposited into your guild cards. We look forward to seeing you again!”
The receptionist registered the completion and transferred the payment.
The minimum requirement for this request was simply subjugating the rabbits. However, by bringing them back for purchase, we earned a little extra money. Leaving the carcasses at the farm would have created additional cleanup work, which was why retrieval was encouraged.
The meat was used for food, and the hides were made into equipment or accessories, so the purchase price for magical beasts wasn’t negligible. Some requests allowed for leaving the carcasses, while others specified requirements like delivering meat. It varied.
We decided to call it a day and returned to the dormitory.
That evening, we enjoyed a delicious meal of braised boar at the commoners’ dining hall.
