The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 26
The following morning, after completing my routine early-morning training, I headed to school. Unfortunately, today’s schedule included a practical magic class.
As someone without magical powers, I was assigned to observe the others’ practice and submit a report.
Today’s lesson, being the first practical session, focused on the basics of producing magic. Everyone in this class possessed magical abilities, meaning I was the only one not participating in the exercises.
I simply summarized the teacher’s explanation: circulate magical energy and release it from your fingertips while chanting. The starting exercise was the basic spell [Light]. It’s fundamental—something even I could probably manage.
As expected of the S-Class, this level wasn’t challenging for them. Next, the teacher instructed the students to cast [Water].
“This is quite simple—elementary, even,” the teacher remarked.
“Teacher, don’t you have something harder?” one student asked.
At that, the teacher smirked, as though he had been waiting for such a request.
“Now we move on to the real S-Class lesson. Condense the [Water] spell into a dense form, and then shape it into figures such as birds or flowers.”
The difficulty spiked dramatically.
I diligently took notes and analyzed the teacher’s instructions. It seemed Fars was producing a water sphere and applying additional magical energy to increase pressure. The other students were also struggling with the sudden leap in difficulty.
Later, I decided to secretly practice in my room. For some reason, I felt like I might be able to pull it off.
Though the students were undoubtedly skilled, mastering the basics of manipulating magical energy was said to make handling advanced spells significantly easier.
“Fars, that’s amazing! Teach me!”
“Yeah, I want you to teach me too!”
“I’m not great at magic since I’m in the knight course, and I’m bad at teaching. You’d be better off asking His Highness Shelman or the mage Myr.”
“No way! I want to learn from Fars!”
“Me too!”
The young noblewomen surrounded His Highness, his aide, and Fars with their cheerful voices, but unlike the others, Fars coldly brushed them off.
In contrast, His Highness smiled warmly and seemed adept at charming the ladies.
I realized I felt a strange sense of relief at Fars’s indifference toward the noblewomen.
Could it be jealousy? Or maybe possessiveness? Seeing Fars, who grew up with me almost like a sibling, getting along with others felt somewhat unsettling. I wasn’t sure of my feelings, so I decided to leave them unexplored for now.
I compiled my observations into a report and submitted it to the teacher. For reasons unclear to me, the teacher chuckled while reading it and immediately approved it with a laugh.
The rest of the day included arithmetic, history, and the native language class, all of which the students attentively attended.
Afterward, I had lunch with Fars at the cafeteria as usual before heading to the guild.
“Marloa, what do you want to take today?”
“Hmm, how about this one?”
I pointed to a request to exterminate five boars. It was a job for meat supply, so we needed to be careful in our approach to receive the full reward. For us, though, this was child’s play. The boars weren’t particularly large.
The job’s rank was C. In a village, it might have been classified as D-rank, but perhaps the difference was regional.
“That sounds good! It’ll be easy for us.”
With Fars’s agreement, we accepted the request.
“Take care!”
The receptionist waved us off as we departed from the southern gate. Beside the gate, there was also a counter for delivering magical beasts.
Our destination was a place referred to as the “Boar Ranch.” Despite the name, it wasn’t managed by anyone; it was merely an area where boars had settled and reproduced, earning the name.
After walking a bit through the forest, we found a grassy plain.
“Fars, this is the spot, right?”
The plain was filled with numerous boars, among them larger Big Boars and even a King Boar.
“How should we handle this?”
“Well, light magic seems like the best option.”
“But it only lasts for about a minute, right? How about sleep magic?”
“Ah, I’m bad at that. And you’ve never used it in practice, have you? It’s not suited for wide areas.”
“Okay, let’s combine them. I’ll use light magic while you cast sleep magic. The combination should be effective.”
“Sounds good. Let’s give it a shot. If I mess up the sleep magic, we’ll just run and hunt as we go.”
“You’re as reckless as ever. But we don’t have much choice.”
The two of us approached the boar herd and began chanting our spells.
I used light magic to dazzle the King Boar, while Fars cast sleep magic. About half the herd collapsed, rendered immobile. The remaining half scattered, but one King Boar charged toward us.
“Marloa! Hurry!”
“I know!”
I threw a flash bomb at the charging King Boar to disorient it. Taking advantage of its confusion, I swiftly drew my sword and struck at the weak points of five boars.
“All done! Let’s get out of here!”
We tied ropes to the boars’ legs, and Fars lightened the load with wind magic as we dashed away. The entire task took less than ten minutes.
“Fars, that was easy.”
“Yeah, the magic went smoothly too.”
After emerging from the forest, we walked leisurely to the magical beast counter, carrying the five boars.
“Five boars confirmed. Well done on the bloodletting too—it’s neatly handled. But remember this: dragging bloody carcasses leaves a trail that attracts monsters. It could endanger travelers and merchants.”
“…Understood.”
“If you get it, take this powder and clean up the trail.”
We were handed lime-like powder.
I usually used cleansing magic but had forgotten this time. Fars seemed to realize his oversight as well.
“Always clean up with purification magic or use purification orbs after combat. Got it?”
“Yes, sir.”
We retraced our steps, sprinkling powder to erase the bl00d trail before returning to the guild.
“The request is complete. Good work.”
With our reward added to our card, we chatted while heading to the equipment shop.
“Did you know about the bl00d trail?”
“Nope, I just cleaned myself up with cleansing magic because I felt dirty. I didn’t think about the danger of bl00d.”
“Same here. We’ll be more careful next time. Lesson learned.”
“Yeah, exactly.”
Curious about the purification orbs mentioned by the counter staff, we stopped by the equipment shop.
The shop was stocked with a wide variety of adventurer tools.
Many items were new to us, and we found ourselves debating whether to buy them.
In the end, we focused on our necessities and purchased flash bombs and purification orbs before heading back.
Fars also bought a purification orb. It slightly dispelled the miasma surrounding magical beasts, weakening them.
Incidentally, magical beasts outside the capital often carried miasma, but cleansing magic during preparation for cooking removed it along with the bl00d, making them safe to eat.
While living in the capital, I learned that nobles and city dwellers tended to view magical beasts as unclean.
In villages, though, people treated them as game meat. The perspectives differed significantly.
Still, this was the capital! People from various villages and towns visited, so magical beast meat was commonly sold.
Feeling nostalgic, we bought skewers of boar meat from a food stall and ate them as we headed back to the dormitory.
