The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 4
“Lady Maroa has magical power… Is this true?”
“Yes! The letters appeared on the magical assessment tablet at the church. But, please, don’t tell Father or Mother. I don’t want to leave the village. I want to stay here until I’m a little older. I don’t want to be separated from you, Hubert. The priest even said this might be the will of the gods.”
I wasn’t entirely sure why, but I strongly felt that I didn’t want my current life to change, even if it meant staying far away from my biological parents.
“…Understood. I’ll keep this a secret from the Marquis and Marchioness. I’ll also inform Violeta later.”
And so, it was decided that I would train in magic with the priest every three days.
“Father, I’m here to study!”
“Maroa, welcome! Come this way.”
The priest, smiling kindly and stroking his white beard, guided me to a room different from the usual chapel. This room was filled with books stacked high and crammed into every available space. It appeared to be his study.
“Father, what is this room?”
“Ah, this was once my office, though I rarely use it anymore. It’s become quite dusty. Now, take a seat in that chair over there.”
I looked around the room with great curiosity before plopping myself into the wooden chair the priest had indicated.
“Maroa, the first thing you must do is learn to sense your own magical power. Now, hold out your hands.”
When I extended my hands, the priest gently took them. A faint glow emanated from his palms as he channeled his magical power into me.
“Maroa, can you feel anything?”
“Yes, Father. It feels like a warm sensation slowly flowing into my right hand. It’s swirling inside me and seems to be leaving through my left hand.”
“That’s right. You’ve done well to sense it so quickly. This is magical power. You must remember this flow and practice making it circulate within your body.”
“I understand! I’ll try my best!”
Following the priest’s instructions, I began imagining the magical flow within my body, whispering “round and round” as I practiced. Thus began my magic training, which continued for six years.
“Six Years Later”
Time flew by, and before I knew it, I was already eleven years old.
Every night before bed, I practiced circulating my magical power. During the day, I trained in swordsmanship with Reco, studied noble etiquette with Violeta, and secretly practiced magic at the church under the priest’s guidance.
My efforts paid off. Reco began praising my swordsmanship, and Violeta said I had finally mastered the basics of noble etiquette.
As for magic, I could now handle simple spells without any problems. However, the priest strictly forbade me from using offensive magic.
Since I had to keep my magic a secret, I mainly practiced in the priest’s garden behind the church. I used earth magic to till the soil, water magic to irrigate it, and plant magic to help the crops grow.
I also practiced precision by using cleansing magic to tidy the study or creating water spheres and shrinking them as much as possible, even changing their shape.
I think I’ve gotten pretty good at it!
Oh, and I also learned concealment magic. As the priest instructed, I’ve kept my magical abilities a secret from everyone and have practiced diligently.
When using body enhancement magic or spells, I trained to minimize any magical leakage. Normally, when casting spells, a faint glow appears on the hands, but I’ve practiced preventing that light from appearing.
This part was especially difficult.
Most of my magical training revolved around concealment. Recently, I’ve finally gotten the hang of it. Now, I can enhance my body or use magic without anyone noticing.
Rare individuals can see magical auras. If someone like that were nearby, they might detect mine.
In such cases, I’ve trained to compress my magical power into a small, dense sphere deep within my body, making it invisible. While compressing the power is easy, containing it deep inside remains a challenge.
“Maroa, let’s go play!”
“Fars! Sure! Where should we go today?”
Since our first encounter with a monster years ago, Fars and I have been training harder in swordsmanship than ever before.
Now that we’re older, we’ve expanded our range of exploration, venturing outside the village. The monsters near the village aren’t very strong, and we’ve become capable of walking around without worrying too much.
Of course, we’ve also learned to flee quickly if we ever encounter a stronger monster.
Both Fars and I vividly remember what happened five years ago and have become more cautious. We avoid places showing signs of dangerous beasts and never venture deep into the forest. We’ve stopped taking foolish risks like we did back then.
After six years of continuous training, I can now hunt weaker monsters with just my sword.
Sometimes, Fars and I catch small beasts, prepare them on-site, and bring the meat home as food. Violeta always grumbles that it’s unbecoming of a lady, but I can’t stop—it’s too fun.
I don’t dress like a typical girl anymore, either. I wear trousers and carry a sword at my side. I feel like a proper knight now.
My long hair often gets in the way, and I’ve wanted to cut it off, but Violeta insists that noblewomen shouldn’t cut their hair. Begrudgingly, I’ve kept it long.
Instead, I tie it back into a single braid to keep it out of the way.
