The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 42
“Marloa, this section is incorrect.”
“You’re right. It should be like this—”
“Amazing, Arnold!”
The laboratory door burst open with a loud bang, and Senior Yele stormed in, clutching something resembling a copper plate.
It seemed the analysis results had finally arrived. He looked excited as he approached Senior Arnold, despite the dark circles under his eyes.
“Yele, have you finished the analysis?”
“Yes. That suspicious object wasn’t quite enough to cause a stampede, but it was a material meant to summon magical beasts in various locations.”
“Summon magical beasts?”
**”Yes, it looks like preparations were made to coincide with the ball happening the day after tomorrow. Apparently, the material Arnold brought back is part of the boss from the Seibad Dungeon.
I think someone defeated the boss, took a piece of it, and placed it in a magic circle to unleash the dungeon monsters onto the surface.”**
The mention of the boss’s fragment made me wonder if there were more parts in use. Feeling uneasy, I asked cautiously.
“Senior Yele, if that was just a part, does that mean there are other pieces besides what Senior Arnold found?”
“Exactly. That possibility is high, which is why I sent a fast magical message to the royal palace just now. They’ll probably begin searching for and destroying the magic circles immediately.”
“Senior Yele, can you locate the magic circles that used parts of the magical beast?”
“Yes, by channeling magic into the fragment, I can trace the remaining pieces using a special magic circle. That’s what I’m doing right now. The royal palace should already be following the trail of my magic.”
Yele’s explanation sounded casual, but channeling magic from the engraved circle on the copper plate must require an enormous amount of energy.
“So the material came from the Seibad Dungeon boss. I’d love to use something like that for alchemy someday. Fars, hand me those magic stones over there.”
Senior Arnold gave the order.
Fars, looking slightly puzzled, grabbed the box of magic stones stored near the floor and handed it over.
… I’m glad I cleaned earlier.
Magic stones used to be scattered everywhere. I can’t count how many times I almost injured myself stepping on them. The box Fars handed to Arnold was passed along to Senior Yele.
“Yele, these will cost you.”
“You’re the best. Thanks, my friend!”
As they chatted, the two seniors began extracting magic from the stones. Fars and I watched in awe.
“You two didn’t know? While there’s some loss, you can extract magic from magic stones.”
“But, Senior, why don’t you drink a magic recovery potion?”
“I’ve already drunk so much that my stomach feels like a water balloon. I can’t take any more liquid, so I’m extracting magic from the stones instead.”
“If magic can be extracted from stones, can it also be transferred from one person to another?”
**”It’s possible, but magic has compatibility issues. Magic stones contain refined magic, so there’s no variation, but humans have significant individual differences.
Someone skilled in alchemy, like Arnold, can align with the recipient’s magic better, making it easier to transfer and convert.”**
Arnold nodded thoughtfully.
“But if the transfer fails, it’s like being hit by an attack spell. That’s why magic transfer is a last resort.”
That sounded like a powerful and dangerous technique.
I couldn’t help but wonder if Fars and I could master such a skill someday. It would be invaluable as a last resort.
Yele continued extracting magic from the stones, but when he picked up a dragon’s magic stone from our recent hunt, Arnold immediately confiscated it.
“Not this one. I’m using it for my research.”
“Tch. Then give me some of your magic. I only need one more stone to finish destroying the magic circles.”
“Tch. Fine. Give me your hand.”
Arnold and Yele both looked reluctant as they grabbed each other’s hands. A faint glow appeared, indicating a steady flow of magic from Arnold to Yele.
“Amazing.”
“Their hands are glowing!”
Fars and I watched in fascination as the two seniors transferred magic, their brows furrowed in concentration.
“This feels weird as always. I’m only tolerating it for the dragon stone’s sake.”
“I feel the same. Let’s get this over with.”
Their expressions made it clear how unpleasant the process was.
“Senior, can I try transferring magic to you?”
“Marloa? Try it with Arnold first. If it works, I’d definitely prefer you over Arnold!”
“Agreed. Let’s see how it goes.”
Arnold released Yele’s hand and extended his to me. Nervously, I placed my hand in his. A comforting warmth flowed into me as Arnold transferred magic.
I had experienced this sensation before.
“Senior Arnold, I think I can do it.”
Recalling the gentle method taught by the village priest, I began transferring magic to Arnold with a steady, warm flow.
“Marloa, you’re good at this. Have you done it before?”
“Yes, the village priest taught me magic as a child. Let me try with Senior Yele.”
Taking a deep breath to calm myself, I touched Yele’s hand and carefully transferred magic, just as I had with Arnold.
“Marloa, you’re amazing. I think I’ll rely on you for this in the future.”
“Hah! Hopefully, it won’t come to that. Yele can keep using magic stones. Are the circles destroyed?”
“Yes, they’ve all been destroyed. Marloa, thanks for your help.”
As I released Yele’s hand, Fars, watching eagerly, spoke up.
“Senior Yele, I want to try too!”
“Rejected. I have a bad feeling I’ll explode.”
Fars’s enthusiasm was met with a sigh from Yele.
“Fars, give it a shot. Just be careful.”
“Understood, Senior. Excuse me!”
Fars began transferring magic to Yele. Arnold watched with a sly smile.
“Ouch! Stop!”
Fars immediately stopped, looking worried.
“Fars, you’re not ready yet. Your magic flow is uneven. It feels like my bl00d is reversing, and my veins are about to tear. You need serious training starting tomorrow.”
As Fars slumped in defeat, Arnold chuckled softly. For now, Fars had no choice but to train harder.
