- Chapter 44 - Side Story – Marloa's Birthday
“Good morning, Fars. It’s a perfect day for training, isn’t it?”
“Good morning, Marloa. It sure is. Shall we get started?”
As usual, we began our day with a morning run at the academy’s training grounds, followed by rigorous exercises that left us sweating. Afterward, we headed to the dining hall for breakfast.
“Marloa, today’s the day we’re going to Senior Arnold’s laboratory, right? I’m looking forward to it. I’ve come to really like his lab.”
“Arnold’s lab is fascinating. It’s like a treasure chest full of surprises.”
“You can say that again.”
We chatted about the lab while finishing our breakfast and then made our way to Senior Arnold’s workspace.
“Senior Arnold, are you alive in there?”
Since bringing back the dragon materials, Senior Arnold had been completely absorbed in his research, neglecting food and sleep. When we saw him for the first time in days, his face was a mix of exhaustion and bliss, leaving us speechless.
“Marloa, Fars. Good to see you. I’m alive and well.”
He seemed genuinely thrilled by his research. Concerned by the dark circles under his eyes, I cast a healing spell on him before he could object.
I had been worried that something dangerous was happening, but it turned out he was simply too excited about his alchemy experiments.
“Sorry to trouble you. Yele will be here soon as well.”
“Senior Yele, too? Is something happening today?”
“Sort of. Fars, get things ready.”
At Arnold’s words, Fars immediately switched into attendant mode and left the laboratory.
“Marloa, are you here?”
Senior Yele entered the lab, carrying a box. Along with him, Fars and some attendants from the aristocrats’ dining hall began bringing in food.
“Fars? What’s going on here?”
On the table were luxurious-looking dishes.
“Happy birthday, Marloa!”
“!!”
That’s right. Today was my fifteenth birthday.
“Thank you so much. I’m truly happy.”
I felt tears welling up in my eyes, overwhelmed by emotion.
“Lady Marloa, this is my gift to you,” Fars said, handing me a box with a yellow ribbon.
When I opened it, I found a hair ornament that perfectly matched my taste.
“Thank you, Fars! It’s beautiful. Can I try it on right now?”
Fars gently fixed the ornament into my hair.
“It suits you perfectly, Marloa.”
“I’d like you to accept my gift as well,” Arnold said, placing a small box in my hand.
Inside was a pair of earrings adorned with polished magic stones, which sparkled like gemstones.
“Senior Arnold, these are incredible!”
“They’re made from scrap magic stones that I refined. They should protect you from any attack once.”
The polished magic stones shone like jewels, and the delicate goldwork made them look exquisite. I couldn’t stop admiring them.
“Thank you, Senior Arnold. I’ll cherish them.”
“Don’t worry too much. They’re just refined scrap stones.”
“Marloa, I have a gift for you, too,” Yele said, pulling an anklet from the box he was holding.
“How’s this? Pretty amazing, right? I carved it myself with magic. If you channel magic into it, I’ll receive a signal.”
The anklet featured a golden chain with a coin-sized magic circle engraved on it. It was a practical accessory that wouldn’t interfere with other jewelry.
“Thank you, Fars, Senior Arnold, and Senior Yele. I’m truly grateful. I’ll treasure all of your gifts!”
**”I’m glad you’re happy. Now, my lady, why don’t we enjoy the meal?
Today’s menu was specially ordered from the aristocrats’ dining hall chef for your birthday. We also have wine and fruit water entrusted to me by the marquis’s butler, Otto. Please enjoy them.”**
Fars, in full attendant mode, served the dishes, and we all enjoyed the delicious meal together.
Today became one of the most precious treasures of my life.
