The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 47
“You’re the one without magic, aren’t you?”
One of the young noblemen smirked as he spoke.
“Hey, why don’t you step aside and come hang out with us? Might be fun.”
“You’ve been living as the disgrace of the marquisate for years, haven’t you? If you get along with us, something good might come of it.”
Senior Arnold let out a sigh, clearly annoyed. I wondered if these were students from the same academy as us.
Now, what should I do?
I couldn’t let such an important royal ball be ruined by their antics. Their audacity, not even introducing themselves, was starting to irritate me.
They were probably sons of some earl’s family or something of that sort. But why were they calling me the “disgrace of the marquisate”?
… I could guess the reason.
“Senior Arnold, I’m terribly sorry for causing you trouble. Shall we leave now?”
“Yes, let’s. I’ll escort you.”
Ignoring the noblemen, we handed our plates to a servant and turned to leave.
“Hey, don’t ignore us!”
One of the noblemen reached out to grab my shoulder, but Arnold intercepted his hand and twisted it sharply. Another one circled around to block our path.
“Do you realize this is the royal ball? Aren’t you embarrassed by your behavior?”
“What’s a magicless girl like you talking about?”
The noblemen sneered, their mocking attitudes blatantly obvious.
“Senior, do they just want to take out their frustrations on me?”
“That seems likely.”
Raising one hand slightly, Arnold signaled to a servant who was actually a knight in disguise. Within moments, several knights dressed as attendants arrived and escorted the noblemen away.
Causing such a scene at a royal ball hosted by the royal family—a place filled with high-ranking nobles—was nothing short of disgraceful.
Arnold seemed familiar with them and mentioned filing a formal protest. I could barely recall their faces even after consulting the mental “noble directory” in my head. Seeing someone in person and recognizing them from written information rarely matched up perfectly.
Arnold escorted me back to my room, where I thanked him and bid him farewell.
The waiting maids quickly helped me out of my dress and removed my makeup, finally allowing me to relax.
“We’ll have the dress delivered to the marquisate tomorrow. Will you be staying in this room tonight?”
“Thank you. Fars should be here to pick me up soon, so I’ll head back to the dorm.”
When Fars arrived, I left the castle with him and returned to the dormitory.
I had had enough of balls for a while.
Please, no more.
After a quick shower, I dove into bed and slept like a log.
When I woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
I’d overslept. Feeling slightly guilty, I made my way to the dining hall alone for a leisurely late breakfast. Fars was likely still resting as well.
What should I do today?
The memory of the noblemen from last night resurfaced, making me fume.
To vent my frustration, I decided to head to the training grounds after breakfast.
As expected, it was empty since it was a day off. Adding heavier weights than usual, I began my training routine.
Honestly, those noblemen should consider themselves lucky the ball was in the royal palace.
If I see them again, I won’t hold back.
I ended up spending the entire day training, exhausting myself completely.
The long vacation was almost over.
Fars told me he’d gone to the marquisate the day after the ball to file a report. Apparently, my parents had witnessed the noblemen harassing me and Arnold and had sent a formal complaint to their families.
Later, the noblemen were reprimanded harshly by their parents, and I received formal letters of apology. One of the letters even mentioned my sister, who had been spreading rumors about me at her tea parties.
It was likely that these noblemen had acted based on those rumors.
… I could only sigh.
I wondered what my parents thought about all this. I wanted to ask them, but I had no reason to return to the marquisate, so I left it at that.
Today was the last day of the long vacation.
I found myself feeling nostalgic about how much free time I’d had.
As usual, I was in Senior Yele’s laboratory with Fars.
Apparently, while nothing had happened inside the ballroom during the ball, there had been an attack outside. Senior Yele mentioned that the guards had managed to handle it before it turned into a serious incident.
It seemed the country’s stability was shakier than I had imagined. What was going to happen next?
The root cause of the unrest was tied to the King’s elder brother.
The story dated back nearly 20 years. The King’s elder brother, the first prince at the time, had been on track to inherit the throne.
However, things changed when a girl named Hina, from another world, appeared. Hina was said to be extraordinarily charming, and the prince and his close aides seemed captivated by her.
Hina’s ideas were radical, advocating for gender equality, the abolition of class distinctions, and the notion that kingship was unnecessary.
She claimed that in her world, commoners enjoyed freedom and progress far beyond this kingdom’s imagination.
Although the royal family initially welcomed Hina and tried to learn from her, she was young and lacked practical knowledge. She could talk about airplanes, asphalt, and various technologies, but she didn’t know how to create or use them.
In the end, she was deemed useless. The King decided to marry her off to a noble family.
The first prince, however, gave up his claim to the throne to marry Hina.
They lived happily for a time, but Hina eventually succumbed to an illness and passed away a few years later.
After her death, the prince changed. He became determined to incorporate Hina’s ideals into the kingdom, even calling for the abolition of the monarchy.
Though the prince himself refrained from taking action, a small group of his followers—nobles and radicals inspired by Hina’s ideas—resorted to violence, even targeting the royal family.
Most nobles and the populace, however, rejected Hina’s ideology. A strong ruler was essential for organizing armies and combating magical beasts. The aristocracy’s role in preserving magical power was critical for the kingdom’s survival.
Even I, as someone without magical power, understood that my lack of it was considered a disgrace. It was a burden I had accepted.
That’s why I dreamed of becoming a carefree adventurer.
The royal family wasn’t just sitting idly. They were making efforts to reduce discontent and improve public order. Hina’s ideology was gradually being forgotten, and attacks on the royal family had decreased over the years.
Back in the present, today marked the end of my studies on magic circles with Senior Yele.
From now on, Seniors Yele and Arnold would focus on their graduation research, leaving Fars and me to train in magic within Yele’s barriers and hunt magical beasts on weekends.
Tomorrow, the academy would resume as usual.
