The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 53
“Well then, everyone, have a pleasant day.”
Although I was invited to join Prince Shelman and the others for a meal in the dining hall, I politely declined, citing prior commitments. While dining with them is always enjoyable, I was eager to head to the research lab as quickly as possible.
When I arrived at the door of the lab, I knocked firmly.
“Senior Yele, it’s Marloa.”
“Come in.”
Suppressing my excitement, I stepped into the room.
“Senior! Are you all right?”
As I entered, I saw that Fars, Senior Arnold, and Senior Yele were already seated on the sofa.
“Well, I have a lot of questions, but first, take a seat.”
Fars smiled as he prepared tea for everyone.
“The Allure Fruit that you brought back is currently stored in a time-stopping bottle for preservation. But, how did everyone feel after eating it?
“For me, I couldn’t leave the bathroom for two days. It was terrible—about as bad as the food poisoning I got during outdoor training once.”
“I had a rough time too. It was miserable, something I’d never want to experience again,” Senior Arnold added.
“I couldn’t leave the bathroom for three days. On top of that, my magic was completely depleted, and I couldn’t even call for help. It was the worst. But yesterday, I suddenly felt better. In fact, I think my magic capacity has increased. What about you all?”
“I feel like mine increased slightly, but only by a small amount,” Senior Arnold admitted.
“I’ve also noticed a slight increase, though my magic reserves were already high to begin with,” said Senior Yele. “Fars, however, it’s obvious just by looking at you. Your magic has doubled, hasn’t it? You’ve gained enough to qualify as a magician.”
“Really? I thought so too,” Fars said, demonstrating his magic circulation. Senior Yele observed with keen interest.
“Marloa, give me your hand. Let’s compare your initial magic reserves to now.”
Senior Yele took my hand and began channeling magic through it.
“As I thought, Marloa, your magic has more than doubled. You now have reserves comparable to those of an upper-class noble. That’s quite impressive.”
Though pleased, I couldn’t help but feel a bit worried.
“Senior, could this be a temporary effect?”
“Hmm, it’s hard to say without thorough investigation, but I think your capacity to store magic has increased permanently.
“When I channeled magic through you, it felt like your vessel had grown larger. Whether this is your limit or if it can grow further is unclear, but it doesn’t seem likely to diminish.
“This is just a theory, but imagine our bodies as vessels for magic. Someone like me or Arnold already had large vessels to begin with, say, up to the neck.
“Before eating the fruit, your capacity might have been around the knees, while Fars’s was closer to the lower body. After eating it, my vessel and Arnold’s extended to the top of the head. Yours seems to have grown to the chest, and Fars’s now reaches the neck.”
“Expanding the vessel itself is extremely rare,” Senior Arnold added, nodding. “It’s not like the magic stones that offer a temporary boost. This fruit is an extraordinary discovery.”
Senior Yele spoke with conviction, and Senior Arnold agreed.
Knowing this wasn’t a temporary effect filled me with joy. Upper-class noble-level magic reserves! I couldn’t be more grateful to the witch and Cain.
Perhaps the fruit seemed insignificant to them, but for Fars and me, the increase in magic was life-changing.
“While the Allure Fruit might not be suitable as a research graduation project, it’s given us new perspectives. Thank you, Marloa and Fars. By the way, the magical beast materials you brought back will be very useful as well.”
“Didn’t Lord Zaron take everything back to the royal palace?” I asked.
“Before the magicians arrived, I secretly cut off some of the skin, claws, and meat,” Senior Arnold said, pulling the materials from his magic bag.
“Typical Arnold, always a step ahead,” Senior Yele said with mock irritation, pouting slightly.
In any case, it was clear that our trip to the Witch’s Forest hadn’t been in vain.
With that, the seniors returned to their research while Fars and I continued practicing magic, making use of our expanded reserves. Of course, we still diligently attended classes.
The first year of the academy was nearing its end, leaving only the final exams and the magic tournament.
Fars and I were buried in study sessions, determined to finish in the top ten.
The class atmosphere wasn’t particularly tense despite the exams. After all, most students had private tutors and were well-prepared.
Fars and I, however, had to work harder, as we were mindful of the tuition costs.
As we diligently studied, the seniors were immersed in the critical stages of their research. I occasionally brought them snacks, though their increasingly haggard appearances worried me.
“We’ll now begin the exam. Are there any questions?”
Our homeroom teacher’s voice rang out.
Over the next two days, we tackled the written exams. While others would perform practical tests on the second day, I was relieved to be allowed to submit a report instead.
The written exams seemed relatively straightforward. I carefully solved each problem, reviewed my answers, and handed them in.
“Fars, how did the exams go?”
“They felt easier this time, which is a bit worrying. I don’t want to miss A-class by just one point again. But with the exams done, we have time now. Should we help the seniors, or return home? Didn’t your father summon you?”
“Oh, right. Let’s wait until the results are out, then I’ll head home. In the meantime, helping the seniors sounds like a good idea. And during the break, we could go hunting!”
“That works for me.”
“Fars, you should visit your family. I’m sure Violeta is eagerly waiting for you.”
“Ah, it feels awkward to go back now.”
“Violeta is definitely waiting for you. I’ve kept you busy long enough. This is an order—go home and relax.”
“Yes, yes,” Fars replied dismissively.
Fars was originally the child of a nursemaid, not a servant by choice. Though he had taken over Violeta’s duties, his dream was to become a knight, and I fully supported him.
Even if he didn’t make it as a knight, I’d happily keep him as my servant or adventure partner. But I believed in his potential as a knight, and next year he would join the Knight’s Club.
We headed to Senior Arnold’s lab to offer our help.
The seniors were delighted. Since I was skilled in magic
control, I assisted Senior Arnold with alchemy, while Fars, with his abundant magic, became Senior Yele’s test subject for various experiments.
