The Noble Lady Without Magic Aims to Become an Adventurer! - Chapter 7
I pushed open the door of the vacant house and dropped my belongings heavily onto the floor. This house had been home to the village chief’s daughter and her husband until they moved to a neighboring town about half a month ago, leaving it conveniently available.
Sitting down on a chair, I finally exhaled in relief. As much as I disliked it, making a report was necessary.
“Commander, this is Levain. I’ve found two individuals of interest.”
“Then send them over here.”
“I’m afraid that’s not possible. Due to certain circumstances, I’ve decided to stay here and personally train them.”
“You? Personally? That’s unusual. Who are these individuals?”
“Are you familiar with the eldest daughter of Marquis Effsee?”
“I’ve heard of her. Supposedly magicless, frail, and recovering in the countryside. What about her?”
“By chance, I had the opportunity to meet her and speak with her. Contrary to the reports, she does possess magic.”
“Magic? But she was declared magicless. Marquis Effsee hasn’t mentioned anything about this.”
“According to her, even the marquis is unaware. Only her attendants and the village priest seem to know.”
“Interesting. And the other person?”
“He’s the son of her nanny. He currently lives with the young lady and serves as her attendant.”
“If you find him interesting, he must have some exceptional ability. What is it?”
“The nanny appears to have been of high-ranking noble descent, judging by her considerable magic reserves. Her son seems to have inherited her magical power. He may even be an illegitimate child of a noble.”
“A commoner with high magical power, then. But there must be more to it.”
“Indeed. Both of them were trained in swordsmanship by Reco.”
“…Reco?! He’s there?!”
“Yes, he’s been raising and training them since they were young. The villagers say the two often return from their so-called ‘mountain adventures’ with monsters far larger than themselves. The village lives in peace without fear of monsters because of them.”
“I see, I see. Prepare a detailed report and send it over. I’ll arrange for someone to cover your duties here. This sounds fascinating.”
“Understood.”
Commander Jennise seemed unusually pleased.
Well, I couldn’t blame him.
Still, I hadn’t expected to find Reco in this village. Reco was an old colleague of mine and a friend from our academy days.
Reco had always been a carefree and enigmatic person, but he was a good man. His skill with a sword was extraordinary. After graduating from the academy, he quickly rose to become a knight commander.
At one point, however, he stepped in to protect a fellow knight falsely accused by a high-ranking noble. Rather than exploiting the situation for his own gain, Reco relinquished his title without hesitation and disappeared.
The commander and I searched for him after hearing the news, but we never found him.
Why Reco chose to teach swordsmanship to Lady Maroa and Fars intrigued me.
What I did know was that those two were remarkably strong, thanks to his training. Their skills were already at a level that could earn them a place in the royal knights.
It seemed there would be plenty to learn from Reco in the days ahead.
