Chapter 14: The Watch
â—Ž Memories â—Ž
Song Yixuan’s tantrum finally got him the results he wanted. He wiped away his tears and pulled Song Qi away.
“From now on, come back to the old house more often and bring that little alpha with you to show her face,” Song Yixuan said, using his handkerchief to wipe his face and patting his knees to remove non-existent dust.
It was the first time Song Qi had seen her father in action, acting like a common shrew.
What Song Qi didn’t know was that in the circles, Song Yixuan was once known as the most difficult person to deal with in the wealthy circles.
Of course, it wasn’t this current hysterical behavior.
Before Zhou Shuyu became an omega, Song Yixuan’s position in the Song family, although not as favored by the old man as Song Yulin, was something no one else could surpass.
This was because none of the Song family’s descendants were as difficult as Song Yixuan. Outside, no one could snatch a project he set his eyes on. At home, if someone took a dish he wanted from his sight, he would flip the table.
No one wanted to fight with Song Yixuan.
Because Song Yixuan was a madman, and so was the late Yu Min, but Yu Min was now dead.
Song Qi had heard of her father’s reputation, but she couldn’t imagine him being crazy. After witnessing her father’s silence following her mother’s death, she no longer wanted to be close to this man.
Because her mother’s death was to save a member of the Song family; it was to save her father’s brother.
Today was the first time she had a direct experience of her father’s madness and shamelessness.
“Ah Min told me I needed to mature and be a role model for my child. She said I shouldn’t be a shrew at home, but with the Song family, it’s useless not to be a shrew,” Song Yixuan said, and his eyes welled up again at the mention of his late wife.
Song Qi looked very much like her mother. When Song Yixuan saw this young face, it was as if he was looking at the old Yu Min.
“I’m sorry, Qi Qi.”
Song Yixuan suddenly choked up. He was almost fifty years old, but he didn’t look it, despite his gray hair.
Song Qi had heard Song Yixuan’s “I’m sorry” too many times.
After her mother’s death and after her differentiation.
She held the watch Song Yixuan gave her, and it felt heavy.
Song Yixuan had worked for the Song Group for many years, but he completely let go of the business when she was fifteen. Three years later, there was no place for him in the Song Group.
For all these years, Song Yixuan had hidden himself so well that she thought her father was a useless man who couldn’t protect his wife or child. And then she was given her father’s watch.
Song Yixuan held the leverage over the Song family.
This was what allowed her, an omega, to enter the Song Group right after she came of age. This was why the old man agreed to her request today, even though he was displeased.
Holding the watch, she now believed the outside world’s evaluation of her father.
“Qi Qi, grow up quickly. Dad can’t be with you for much longer,” Song Yixuan said.
“What do you mean?”
Song Qi frowned.
“That little alpha seems like a reliable person. My dear, you must hold on to what you want tightly.”
“I’m asking you what you mean? I don’t have a mother, and now what are you planning to do?”
“I’m telling you, you owe me. You are not to do anything that will kill you!” Song Qi said with a dark expression. “I’m going back to the hospital. You stay put at the old house.”
“I will come back to visit you often.”
Song Qi left with a grim face, her heart in turmoil.
Song Qi didn’t sleep all night. After returning to the hospital, she moved a bed into Zhou Shuyu’s room and went to sleep.
On the way back, she took the watch apart. There was nothing special inside the watch itself.
But Song Qi found an address.
It was a code language Song Yixuan had taught her when she was a child. Song Yixuan had told her that only they could understand it.
After noting down the address and the password, Song Qi restored the watch to its original state and put it on.
This was not a men’s watch; it was Yu Min’s. She had removed two of the straps so the watch would fit perfectly on her wrist.
Song Qi fell asleep with her arms crossed. The room smelled of disinfectant. A comatose alpha was lying beside her, but Song Qi felt at peace.
The next day when Song Qi opened her eyes, she saw a pair of eyes staring at her from behind a ventilator mask.
“Please… help me call the doctor…”
Zhou Shuyu had actually been woken up by the pain many times. The pain in her body made it impossible to sleep soundly, so she had been staring at Song Qi’s peaceful sleeping face for a day.
The sky outside was bright, and the clock on the wall showed it was five in the afternoon.
Zhou Shuyu felt both pain and thirst.
Song Qi got up and pressed the call button by the bed.
A doctor and two nurses soon came in.
The doctor marveled at Zhou Shuyu’s rapid recovery. Her wounds were healing normally, and no infection had been found.
He wrote down some precautions and explained them to Song Qi before leaving again.
Zhou Shuyu felt like she had a very long dream while she was in a coma.
She dreamt that she was a very outstanding child with a harmonious family and loving parents.
Her plan was to become a doctor, but her dream was shattered because she differentiated into an alpha.
In the same year, her father brought a fashionably dressed omega home. She pointed fingers at everything in the house, and her father was very flattering to her.
He told her mother that she was a business partner.
Later, the family’s financial situation seemed to worsen.
Zhou Shuyu was transferred from a privileged middle school to a middle school that didn’t charge tuition, where the students were excessively rebellious.
Their large house was also replaced with a simple one-bedroom apartment.
The formerly gentle alpha became a monstrous person who beat his wife.
Zhou Shuyu’s life at school was not easy either. She was often blocked on her way home by a group of people.
No matter the environment, she maintained excellent grades until her school started that program. She won first place and received a promise from a general: if she was willing to join the military with her, she would take her under her wing as an apprentice.
When she wanted to tell her mother the good news, she came home to see her father beating her mother again.
She almost killed the alpha who was punching and kicking his wife.
In the end, she was the one who pushed for Zhou An and her mother’s divorce.
She begged the general to send her mother away and then followed the general into the military. In a few years, she became a colonel.
And all her stipends were transferred to a woman named Han.
Han was her mother.
Now she remembered everything about the original owner.
Even though Zhou Shuyu had not truly experienced those events, her heart ached uncontrollably.
She remembered the video those people showed her when they first approached her. Perhaps all the stipends that were transferred to the original owner’s mother were taken by those people.
Zhou Shuyu wondered if she should find the original owner’s mother… but Zhou Shuyu knew that she had no contact information for her.
Only a bank account number.
The original owner’s mother had changed her contact information and had never contacted Zhou Shuyu again.
This left Zhou Shuyu with no clues.
