Chapter 23: Holding a Grudge
â—Ž Someone Is Waiting for Me â—Ž
Walking through a long corridor, Zhou Shuyu and Song Qi arrived at a place full of flowers and vitality.
A tall, thin, and handsome man in an apron was watering the flowers.
Zhou Shuyu thought that only his hair made him look old; otherwise, his face looked like it was in his thirties.
When Song Qi called him “Dad,” Zhou Shuyu was a little disbelieving.
Could this man, who seemed to be at peace with the world and so different from the uncles outside, be Song Qi’s father?
Based on his age, Song Qi’s father should be in his forties or fifties, right?
But besides his hair, he looked to be only in his thirties.
Zhou Shuyu didn’t know what to say. If she weren’t in a wheelchair, she wouldn’t even know where to put her hands and feet.
“Is this your alpha?”
“Hello, I’m Song Qi’s father.”
“Hello, Uncle… My name is Zhou Shuyu.” Zhou Shuyu nodded, saying it naturally, but her face looked somewhat serious.
“Don’t be nervous here. Just treat it like your own home.”
Song Yixuan smiled, discreetly sizing up Zhou Shuyu.
Zhou Shuyu nodded. She had heard some things from Jennifer about the famous reputation of the Song family’s eldest son when he was young. She knew that in front of such a person, the more she said, the more mistakes she would make, and there was no need to pretend.
Besides, as a father, he should have a thorough understanding of the person his daughter was with, right? Now, perhaps like the people outside, he just wanted to see what she was like in person.
Zhou Shuyu felt that Song Yixuan’s smile was somewhat similar to Song Qi’s. So Song Qi’s smiling demeanor was also inherited from her father?
“Xiao Yu, let someone take you to the West Wing first. I have something to talk about with Qi Qi. You don’t mind, do you?”
Song Yixuan’s face was smiling. Of course, Zhou Shuyu had nothing to say. She let someone push her through another long corridor to a small courtyard separated by a flower wall.
The climbing roses covered an entire wall. The small courtyard was arranged like a beautiful flower garden in an oil painting.
Aside from the path, different kinds of roses and other flowers were scattered in a well-organized manner. The numerous flowers didn’t look crowded but were aesthetically pleasing.
It was like a beautiful garden that would only appear in a fairy tale, yet this was only a very small part of the vast Song family estate.
After arriving at the wing room, Zhou Shuyu was very interested in the flowers and plants in the courtyard, so she didn’t feel bored while waiting for Song Qi to come over.
“That little alpha seems to be simple-minded,” Song Yixuan said after Zhou Shuyu left.
“She is. I’m worried that some people in the Song family will bully her.”
“What? You’re already protecting her before she’s even in the family?” Song Yixuan said with a laugh. He had never seen his daughter care about someone else this much.
“Dad…” Song Qi looked at Song Yixuan helplessly.
“We saw many unfamiliar omegas when we arrived. Isn’t what the uncles are doing a bit too much?”
Song Qi’s gaze at Song Yixuan was a little resentful. Now that her father was no longer in charge on the surface, all those people with ulterior motives didn’t even pretend anymore.
Song Yixuan’s face remained smiling as he listened to her words, but his eyes had already turned cold.
“It doesn’t matter. It’s not a bad thing to test your alpha.”
“Dad, don’t always test people’s hearts,” Song Qi said lightly.
People’s hearts can’t withstand being tested. After repeated tests, even the most solid vessel will have cracks.
Besides, she didn’t need to test her. Even if her heart wasn’t hers, the person could be. No one could resist the instincts of a high-compatibility match.
She knew in her heart that Zhou Shuyu had some self-control, but in that state, she couldn’t control herself, could she?
Song Qi wasn’t worried.
“What we need to be concerned about now is how to deal with those annoying omegas in the old house.”
Song Yixuan smiled.
“I’ll have those people go back after tonight.”
“And I’ll give you two more people to take care of your little alpha from the shadows.”
Song Qi’s face darkened upon hearing Song Yixuan’s words. The people here were just like that. They kept pulling petty tricks. They weren’t fatal, but they were disgusting.
Zhou Shuyu’s injuries hadn’t healed yet, and as soon as Song Yixuan said to bring Zhou Shuyu over to show her face, some people were already impatient to cause trouble in the Song family estate.
The omegas on the surface could be dealt with, but Zhou Shuyu’s safety in the dark was still a hidden danger.
Song Qi didn’t refuse Song Yixuan’s suggestion. There was no one in the entire Song family who wished the best for the first branch.
“Dad, what do you think about starting with Uncle Three this time?” A glint of excitement flashed in Song Qi’s eyes.
“Have you found everything already?”
Song Yixuan was surprised. It seemed his daughter had grown to a point where she no longer needed his help. Those things, even without his help, she would probably have found them anyway.
“Uncle Three leaves the most leverage behind. Just a quick check and it’s everywhere.”
Song Qi said nonchalantly.
“However, your Uncle Three likes to make a lot of noise when he suffers a loss. From now on, your uncles will all be on guard against you.”
“I’m not afraid,” Song Qi said.
“Uncle Three loves children the most. Since Auntie Three didn’t give him any children, the one he raised outside is the same age as me.”
“Although I heard he’s an inferior alpha, Uncle Three is extremely happy with him.”
“Otherwise, he wouldn’t be in such a hurry to make a move on me.”
Song Yixuan didn’t say anything. He knew his brothers well.
His mother died early. His second and third uncles were born to his stepmother, and the youngest was raised under a mountain of love.
For many years, he thought his father wanted him to be the successor of the Song family. He worked so hard for the Song family for so many years.
It wasn’t until his wife died that he learned the truth. Everything he had worked so hard to build was for his stepmother.
If it weren’t for his daughter, he would have poisoned and killed everyone in the Song family back then.
But Song Qi was too young then. She looked like a miniature version of A-Min. It was a pity that A-Min was so capable, yet he was the one who got her killed.
If he hadn’t been the old man’s son, A-Min might not have lost her life so easily because of someone else’s words.
Song Yulin had been somewhat well-behaved these past few years, but he still held a grudge.
It was all because of him that his wife died for nothing. How much was his life, Song Yulin’s, worth?
What was he, a mere nobody, who got to keep his life and flaunt it in front of Qi Qi?
The person Song Yixuan wanted to kill the most was Song Yulin, but he didn’t object to Song Qi’s plan to deal with Song Ming’en.
He had seemed so dejected for all those years. If it weren’t for the things he had given her, his daughter might have thought he was a good-for-nothing.
“Qi Qi has grown up,” Song Yixuan said with emotion, his words filled with bitterness.
“Of course. Unlike others, I’m a child without a person to hold an umbrella for me.”
Song Qi said lightly.
These words made Song Yixuan’s heart tighten. As expected, his daughter still held a grudge against him.
Of course, how could she not hate him? As her father, when had he ever taken the initiative to care for his child? If it weren’t for that one time his child cried in front of him…
How else would he have reappeared in front of the Song family so soon?
“Don’t hate me.”
“How can I not hate you, Dad? I was so close to dying so many times.”
“You’ll have to experience all of this eventually,” Song Yixuan’s face was in the shadows, so Song Qi couldn’t see his expression clearly.
Song Qi stood in the brightest spot in the flower bed.
“It’s okay, Dad. What I want, I’ll hold tightly in my hand.”
Song Yixuan smiled. Song Qi was different from him. She was like A-Min, not weak like her father.
“I’m leaving. She must be getting impatient waiting.”
