The Paranoid Female CEO’s Contracted Beauty (Omegaverse) - Chapter 14
“Chairwoman Xu, this is the quarterly profit report from Guanjing Entertainment. Would you like to take a look?”
“Just leave it over there. I’ll check it later.”
Xu Qingyan sat distracted, staring at her laptop. Her mouse hadn’t moved at all. Though her eyes were fixed on the screen, her mind was somewhere else. She kept replaying the words that omega said to her last night.
It turned out the omega wasn’t afraid of her. She just completely didn’t want to see her.
She thought Xu Qingyan was cold and heartless.
She thought she was unreasonable.
She even thought Xu Qingyan was using her family background to bully others.
Xu Qingyan couldn’t understand. For the first time, she felt unsure of herself. She had always stood up for omegas, never letting anyone mistreat them. Yet she had never expected to be misunderstood by one.
Did she really never want to see her again?
A wave of frustration rose in her chest. Just the thought of the omega avoiding her, fearing her, or looking at her with hatred made it unbearable.
The omega could not hate her.
And she should not avoid her.
That initial frustration gradually turned into obsession. The voice in her heart grew louder and clearer. If the omega was destined to dislike or fear her, then nothing she did would change that.
So what was she still trying to hold on to?
Xu Qingyan had thought that if she gave the omega enough space, she could slowly get closer to her. Even if there were other alphas around her, one day, the omega would notice her. But now it seemed the more she tried, the farther the omega moved away.
In the end, they would go back to what they were—familiar strangers.
Xu Qingyan didn’t want that.
She had worked so hard just to get a little closer to her. If this incident sent her all the way back to the beginning, she would go crazy.
“Chairwoman Xu.” Secretary Su noticed something was off with her and spoke with concern.
But Xu Qingyan was still lost in thought and didn’t hear her.
Once.
Twice.
It wasn’t until the third time that Xu Qingyan slowly lifted her head.
“Is there a problem?”
Secretary Su swallowed nervously. The expression on Xu Qingyan’s face at that moment looked like someone who had just been abandoned by their lover. It was cold and dark.
“N-no… no problem…”
Xu Qingyan narrowed her eyes and stared at her.
“Your eyes say you have something to ask me. Haven’t I said before that if you have anything to say, just ask me directly? As long as it makes sense, I won’t get angry.”
Secretary Su thought to herself that if she had ever really said what she was thinking, she would have been kicked out by Old Chairman Xu a long time ago. She wouldn’t even be here anymore.
But considering Xu Qingyan had never lost her temper with her, she decided to speak honestly.
“Chairwoman Xu, were you thinking about Miss Li just now?”
Xu Qingyan didn’t deny it. Her silence was confirmation.
Her expression grew even heavier.
Seeing this, Secretary Su continued, “Boss, are you worried that because of what happened, Miss Li will start to hate you even more?”
“She said she never wants to see me again.”
Xu Qingyan said it very calmly, without any emotion.
But Secretary Su could still hear the disappointment in her voice, and even a hint of unwillingness to accept it. Xu Qingyan, who had always been confident and composed, now sounded uncertain. It was clear she was genuinely afraid of losing that omega.
“I don’t think that will happen,” Secretary Su replied carefully. “First of all, there’s no real conflict of interest between Miss Li and you. You’ve never actually done anything to hurt her. As for what happened yesterday, she’s in the entertainment industry now. I think she’ll soon understand how things work.”
“Second, you did what you did because of her. Even if she doesn’t say thank you, I believe she knows that deep down. She’s still very young and hasn’t experienced these kinds of situations before, so it’s understandable if she’s scared or unsure about your approach.”
“Lastly, even if she is afraid, I believe Miss Li is smart enough to understand your true intentions.”
Xu Qingyan’s eyes lit up.
“Do you really think so?”
Secretary Su nodded. “However, regarding her manager, I do think you should ease up a little. If things go too far, it could affect Miss Li negatively. The entertainment industry is a small circle. News spreads fast. She’s still young and doesn’t know how deep the waters are. If someone uses this against her, she might not be able to stay in the industry.”
She didn’t expect Xu Qingyan to respond so coldly.
“She should have thought about the consequences before laying a hand on Xiao Ge. And also, Su, let me correct one thing. The entertainment industry may be a tough place, but that’s only true for other people. If Xiao Ge wants it, the best resources in the entire industry are hers.”
Secretary Su was stunned. She finally realized just how much Li Ge meant to Xu Qingyan. She quickly corrected herself.
“I’m sorry, Chairwoman Xu. That was my mistake.”
Xu Qingyan said nothing more. But since the topic had come up, she decided to make things clear.
“Xiao Ge is the omega I care about most in this life. I don’t know what you think of her, or how you see her, but as long as you work for me, remember one thing. No one is allowed to bully her. Not even Xu Hong.”
Hearing this, Secretary Su was completely sure her instincts had been right from the start. But she was still curious.
She had worked for Xu Qingyan for many years, and had never seen any real connection between her and that omega. They came from completely different worlds and had barely even met. She couldn’t understand what kind of magic that omega had.
Was it her beauty?
No.
With Xu Qingyan’s status, she was surrounded by beautiful omegas all the time.
Was it her personality?
Maybe it was one of those moments where someone thought, “Woman, you’ve successfully caught my attention.”
Of course, it couldn’t possibly be because of that.
Secretary Su really couldn’t figure out what exactly drew Xu Qingyan to that omega. Whether in terms of looks or background, Li Ge was not what most would consider ideal.
“Chairwoman Xu, may I ask something?”
Xu Qingyan knew what she wanted to ask and answered directly. “What you want to know will become clear over time, but not now.”
Secretary Su nodded and didn’t push any further. “I understand. Then about the manager from Shengshi Entertainment, are you still planning to stick with your original stance?”
Xu Qingyan was about to respond when there was a knock on the door.
“Chairwoman Xu, someone is here to see you.”
Secretary Su turned toward the door and called out, “Didn’t Chairwoman Xu already say she won’t meet anyone unless it’s urgent? Please ask her to leave.”
The person outside hesitated for a moment, then really turned and walked away.
At that moment, on the first floor at the reception desk—
“I’m sorry, but Chairwoman Xu has made it clear. She doesn’t meet with anyone unless it’s about something important. Please head back, young lady.”
Li Ge had expected it would be hard to meet Xu Qingyan, but she hadn’t imagined it would be this difficult. She asked again, “Can I make an appointment instead?”
The receptionist, an omega with a gentle voice, caught the scent of Li Ge’s pheromones and looked a little surprised.
“Are you an A-rank omega?”
The sudden question confused Li Ge, but she politely answered. “Yes. Is there something wrong with that?”
The receptionist looked her up and down. Her expression slowly changed into something Li Ge found uncomfortable.
She instantly felt uneasy and assumed they were misunderstanding something. Quickly, she tried to explain.
“I’m here to discuss something important with Chairwoman Xu. It’s not what you’re thinking.”
It would have been better not to say anything at all. Now both receptionists were looking at her even more strangely.
“Sweetheart, we understand.”
No, you don’t understand anything, Li Ge thought.
She tried to clarify again. “Sisters, I really do have something serious to talk about with Chairwoman Xu. Could you please try calling her again? Just tell her my name is Li Ge, and that it’s an urgent matter.”
The receptionist smiled patiently. “Let me be honest with you. Do you know how many omegas have come here using the same excuse to try to meet her? In the beginning, Chairwoman Xu was still willing to see them. But they all had one goal, and that was to get into her bed. Things got out of control, and one of them even made a huge scene. After that, she refused to meet anyone unless it was absolutely necessary. So I suggest you drop this idea. A-rank omegas are rare. You should take better care of yourself.”
Li Ge knew they were completely misunderstanding her. But she had promised to do this, and she wasn’t going to back out now.
“I’m really not here because of that.” She was starting to get angry. Her round face puffed up even more, making her look even younger. “I said I’m here for a serious conversation. Whatever those other omegas did has nothing to do with me. So what if she’s beautiful? I already have my own alpha. Not every omega is interested in her just because she’s an S-rank alpha.”
Maybe she was just too angry, but her voice got louder and louder. What started as a quiet explanation had turned into a full-on speech that echoed through the entire reception hall.
Several employees and visiting clients stopped what they were doing and looked in her direction.
Realizing all eyes were on her, Li Ge’s ears turned red. She hadn’t meant to shout, but she couldn’t stand being seen that way.
Just then, one of the receptionists called out, “Chairwoman Xu.”
Li Ge quickly turned around and met Xu Qingyan’s gaze.
Her cold and elegant eyes were fixed on her. But something about them seemed different this time.
Li Ge wasn’t sure if she was imagining things, but at that moment, Xu Qingyan looked like a wounded cat.
Did she hear everything I just said?
Even if she did, what did it matter?
Still, Li Ge couldn’t help feeling a little nervous. She walked over and tried to explain herself.
“I didn’t mean anything bad about you, Chairwoman Xu. I just didn’t want people to get the wrong idea.”
Xu Qingyan didn’t say anything. She turned around and said in a quiet voice, “Come upstairs. We’ll talk there.”
