Li Ge froze for a moment.

But only for a moment. She quickly pulled her hand out of Xu Qingyan’s grasp. She was terrified of being seen in public getting physically close to Xu Qingyan.

She already had her own Alpha. If someone saw her acting intimately with another Alpha in broad daylight, how would she be any different from those Omegas at nightclubs who tried every trick to seduce Alphas?

“Chairwoman Xu, what do you think you’re doing?” Li Ge stepped back again. “If you touch me one more time, I will call the police.”

Xu Qingyan stopped. She looked up at Li Ge and saw that her eyes were full of caution, even disgust, directed toward her behavior.

She wanted to explain, but the words wouldn’t come out. She had no proof to support that what Li Dahai said was true, and even less proof that he would actually follow through.

But she couldn’t take that kind of risk. Li Dahai was ruthless. His bottom line was lower than anyone’s. Trusting him would be like believing pigs could climb trees.

“Do you know that Li Dahai is planning to sell you?”

Li Ge stared at her in disbelief. “What did you just say?”

So she really didn’t know.

Xu Qingyan held her gaze and repeated, slowly and clearly, “I said, do you know that Li Dahai is planning to sell you?”

“No. No way. That’s impossible.” Li Ge shook her head desperately. “You’re lying to me.”

“I am not lying.”

“If you’re not lying, then what, my own father told you this himself? Who would be that stupid?”

Xu Qingyan didn’t say a word. Her silence was the answer.

Li Ge kept shaking her head. She couldn’t believe that Li Dahai would do such a thing. “No. No. He’s my biological father. How could he possibly sell me? You’re lying to me.”

Xu Qingyan frowned slightly. She didn’t understand why the Omega was reacting like this. That night, she had clearly seen the truth in Li Dahai’s intentions. Why was she refusing to accept it?

Or was it simply that Li Ge didn’t believe her? Would she believe it if someone else said the same thing?

“Is it that you don’t believe the truth, or do you just not believe me?” Xu Qingyan finally realized what the real issue was. She took a step forward.

Li Ge backed away immediately.

And the more she backed away, the more Xu Qingyan felt her suspicion was right. That realization made her deeply irritated. She was desperate to hear an answer from the Omega.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Xu Qingyan’s frown deepened. “Is it because I hit the mark?”

Li Ge didn’t understand what Xu Qingyan meant, but the look in Xu Qingyan’s eyes scared her. It was even more terrifying than the way she had looked at her that night, when it felt like she wanted to devour her.

It was as if she truly might be swallowed whole.

That kind of intensity made Xu Qingyan even more agitated. Her voice grew sharper.

“Xiao Ge, answer me. Is it that you don’t believe what I’m saying, or do you just not believe me?”

Li Ge didn’t understand why Xu Qingyan was fixating on this. The two weren’t the same. And whether she believed it or not had nothing to do with Xu Qingyan. Why was she being questioned like this?

“Chairwoman Xu, don’t you think that kind of question is ridiculous? Whether I believe it or not has absolutely nothing to do with you. This is my private business. You and I are nothing more than strangers. I have no reason to tell a stranger everything about myself.”

Strangers.

Yes. That was what they were now.

She had no right to ask anything.

Xu Qingyan’s frustration grew. She hated the distance between them. They stood so close, yet it felt like a galaxy separated them.

“Why don’t you believe me?” Xu Qingyan asked stubbornly. “Do I really seem that frightening?”

The first time they met again, it was that look in Li Ge’s eyes, full of avoidance. Even though they hadn’t seen each other in such a long time, the first moment they reunited, Li Ge was still afraid of her.

The second time was at the Xu family’s villa. She had clearly refused Li Dahai’s request in no uncertain terms. She never had any intention of buying Li Ge, yet the Omega was still scared.

Then the third time, in the Shengshi Entertainment office, she had gone there to stand up for Li Ge. But when Li Ge saw her, her eyes were still full of fear.

Xu Qingyan could not understand it. The pressure, the confusion, the helplessness built up inside her until she couldn’t stay calm anymore. Every time she thought about how Li Ge looked away from her but smiled warmly at everyone else, she felt a jealous rage that drove her close to madness.

“Answer me, Xiao Ge.”

Li Ge still said nothing. Her head was lowered. Maybe she was thinking about what Xu Qingyan had said about Li Dahai.

But Xu Qingyan could not wait another moment. She had always been obsessed with knowing the answers to things. If she couldn’t get one, she would never stop.

“Answer me, Xiao Ge.”

She finally lost her patience and snapped, “If the Alpha you saw that night hadn’t been me, if the one Li Dahai brought you to meet at the villa wasn’t me, would you have said yes?”

“Xu Qingyan!”

Li Ge almost shouted. Her voice trembled. She looked up and glared at Xu Qingyan, her face full of fury.

Xu Qingyan didn’t back down. She just wanted an answer. If Li Ge answered, she would turn around and leave immediately and never bother her again.

But if she didn’t, Xu Qingyan would keep pushing.

“I said, if the Alpha you saw that night wasn’t me, if the one Li Dahai brought you to the villa to meet wasn’t me, would you have agreed to let him sell you?”

“Xu Qingyan, you’re going too far!”

Li Ge clenched her teeth. Her whole body trembled with anger. She had always believed Xu Qingyan didn’t see her that way. That was why she had rejected Li Dahai’s offer that night at the villa. She didn’t even spare the man a glance.

Even the secretary beside her had tried to protect her. Xu Qingyan had never done anything inappropriate. Although her gaze was intense and frightening, she always kept a respectful distance.

That much, Li Ge could feel.

So in her heart, as long as Xu Qingyan didn’t cross any boundaries, she was willing to treat her like a friend.

Even though she was still scared of Xu Qingyan’s eyes.

She never expected that this whole time, Xu Qingyan had seen her that way.

Xu Qingyan was stunned by those words. A sharp pain rose in her chest, like something had stabbed straight through, making it hard for her to breathe.

She wanted to explain, but at this point, it felt pointless. Li Ge had taken her words to heart, but completely misunderstood her intent.

“I… I didn’t…”

“Didn’t what? Chairwoman Xu, are you saying you’re not interested in me? Or are you just too afraid to admit it?”

Xu Qingyan couldn’t deny it. But it wasn’t just interest. It was love.

She loved her, just like any Alpha who truly loved their Omega. She wanted to have her, protect her, make her hers alone.

Xu Qingyan felt a wave of panic. She was terrified of what Li Ge had just said. It meant things between them could become even worse than before. She couldn’t accept that. They had already missed so many years. If they missed each other again, she would lose her mind.

Li Ge wondered if she was imagining things. Had she actually seen panic in Xu Qingyan’s eyes?

She struggled harder, but Xu Qingyan refused to let go. That answer, that thought, made her furious with jealousy. “You can’t marry him. You can’t let him mark you. Li Ge truly believed Xu Qingyan had lost her mind. And the pressure on her shoulders kept increasing, like her bones might snap under it. She frowned in pain.

“It hurts!”

Xu Qingyan was flustered. She immediately loosened her grip, wanting to soothe her, but didn’t know how. She had never learned how to comfort someone.

From a young age, Xu Hong had always been strict with her. She never had any close friends. Most of her life, she had walked alone—eating alone, studying alone, staring at the wall alone, watching her wounds slowly heal on her own.

And the only person who had ever made her want to.

Xu Qingyan didn’t want to see this Omega sad. She only wanted to see her smile.

“Did I hurt you?” she asked quietly, withdrawing her hand and trying to check.

But Li Ge thought she was faking it. She shoved her away hard and raised her voice as if warning her not to come any closer. Xu Qingyan had no choice but to keep her distance.

“Xiao Ge, I—”

“Don’t call me that.”

Li Ge glared at her with disgust. “You make me sick. Chairwoman Xu, you were really good at pretending before. But now you’ve finally shown your true face, haven’t you? I should’ve known. There’s no such thing as kindness without reason. I was too naive. As for Chen Xin, what happened to her is her own fault. If you want to deal with her, go ahead. But as for what you just said, I will never agree to it. Xu Qingyan, you should give up already. Even if Li Dahai really does sell me one day, I would rather find a random sugar daddy than ever choose you.”

Never choose her?

Xu Qingyan’s emotions spiraled into chaos. A voice in her head screamed relentlessly, leaving her no room to stay calm. All she wanted now was to take Li Ge and lock her away in her private villa, where she could see her every day and no one else.

As the realization struck her, Xu Qingyan clenched her jaw. She looked up at Li Ge and made her decision. “Xiao Ge, I—”

“I said, don’t call me that!” Li Ge looked like a frightened rabbit, alert and ready to run. “My Alpha is coming soon. Chairwoman Xu, if you touch me again, I’m sure you don’t want to lose face right in front of your company’s building.”

Xu Qingyan lowered her eyes and said nothing, but her fists clenched tightly at her sides.

Just then, a BMW pulled up slowly.

As soon as Li Ge saw the car, she ran toward it without looking back.

A moment later, a tall male Alpha stepped out, opened the door for her with care, and even gave her a loving embrace right in front of Xu Qingyan.

Jealousy burned in Xu Qingyan like wildfire. That should have been her place. That Omega should have belonged to her. Everything Li Ge had now should have been hers.

It was all because of that one careless moment that Li Dahai managed to take advantage of the situation. But it didn’t matter anymore. Now that Li Ge hated her anyway, Xu Qingyan had no reason to hold back.
