The Paranoid Film Queen Doesn’t Want to Remarry - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
After being hung up on by Yan Mushuang, Yan Muyu called again. The housekeeper explained what had just happened, and Yan Muyu fell silent for a while. She didn’t ask to speak to Xu Weishuang again—she only instructed the housekeeper to take good care of her, then promptly hung up.
The housekeeper looked with concern at the weak Xu Weishuang lying in bed. After hesitating for a moment, she simply said, “Miss Yan said for you to rest well.”
Xu Weishuang opened her eyes. She didn’t feel like responding to Yan Muyu but still nodded at the housekeeper to express her thanks.
The housekeeper had worked here for quite a while and had never seen Xu Weishuang lose her temper. Although Xu Weishuang was difficult to approach and a bit eccentric, she never gave the household staff any trouble.
Today was the first time the housekeeper had seen her clearly upset, presumably with Yan Muyu.
Xu Weishuang noticed the curiosity on the housekeeper’s face but had no intention of explaining anything. She simply closed her eyes again and drifted back to sleep.
…
The illness had come quickly but also passed swiftly. She was fully recovered before filming resumed.
In the past few days, Yan Muyu hadn’t contacted her again, only calling the housekeeper to ask about Xu Weishuang’s condition.
There wasn’t really anything happening at home, just inquiries about her health.
The housekeeper assumed the two were having a spat and made sure to repeat Yan Muyu’s caring words to Xu Weishuang, hoping they would reconcile.
But Xu Weishuang never responded.
She didn’t understand—Yan Muyu had already brought Xu Xia close, someone who clearly resembled her former ideal love. Why then was she still concerned about Xu Weishuang?
Did she want someone at home and someone outside?
That thought crossed Xu Weishuang’s mind, but she dismissed it. She didn’t believe Yan Muyu was that kind of person.
Not only because of how seriously Yan Muyu had always treated relationships, but also because Xu Weishuang couldn’t see her being foolish enough to risk the scandal of cheating within a marriage.
She didn’t know what Yan Muyu’s situation really was, but Xu Weishuang had already made up her mind to divorce her.
Yan Muyu was a public figure, and the Yan family wasn’t an ordinary one. Their divorce wouldn’t be resolved with a simple trip to the civil affairs office.
Xu Weishuang didn’t have anyone else to ask, so she called her senior, Li Yun.
She asked what kind of consequences there might be if she divorced Yan Muyu—mainly because of Yan Muyu’s public status, since Xu Weishuang herself wasn’t much of a public figure anymore.
After all, they had been married for six years. Xu Weishuang didn’t want the divorce to ruin Yan Muyu’s reputation.
She wanted them to part ways peacefully.
Li Yun was stunned when she heard about the divorce. Cautiously, she asked, “Does Yan Muyu know?”
This was a PR issue—if Yan Muyu knew, Xu Weishuang wouldn’t be coming to her; she’d have already let that famous manager Shi Yan handle it.
“She’ll know soon,” Xu Weishuang replied.
So, she didn’t know yet.
Li Yun’s headache worsened. “When are you planning to tell her?”
“After I finish this drama.”
Hearing Xu Weishuang’s calm tone over the phone, Li Yun didn’t know whether to admire her professionalism or be dumbfounded at how she could sound so indifferent about something so serious.
In the end, she could only helplessly remind her that for PR issues like this, she should talk directly to Yan Muyu—after all, she had an entire PR team at her disposal.
Li Yun meant that maybe Xu Weishuang should talk to Yan Muyu first—it might just be a lovers’ quarrel.
But Xu Weishuang took it differently: that Yan Muyu’s PR team would be more than capable of handling the fallout of their divorce.
That thought gave her some peace of mind.
“Thank you, senior,” Xu Weishuang said sincerely.
“N-No need.” Li Yun was flustered, unsure of Xu Weishuang’s true intentions in thanking her—or whether she had misunderstood everything.
In the end, she awkwardly changed the subject, “Just get to the set early tomorrow…”
Xu Weishuang agreed. After hanging up, she also consulted a divorce lawyer. Once she fully understood the procedures and ended the call, she slowly exhaled.
The surroundings were quiet. Her gaze swept over the room.
Yan Muyu didn’t come home often, but after six years together, they had shared a lot of time. Every inch of this place was filled with traces of their life.
She had longed for Yan Muyu. When they first met, her appearance had pulled Xu Weishuang out of a desperate, hopeless state. She had been the reason she kept going.
Now that Yan Muyu no longer needed her, it was time for Xu Weishuang to step out of her protection. That thought left her feeling lost.
But she had grown over the years. Leaving Yan Muyu wouldn’t be as soul-crushing as leaving that person had once been.
Still, the villa now felt unbearably cold. The bedroom window hadn’t been shut tightly, and cold wind blew against her face. She turned and pressed the smart control button, sealing out the draft.
But the warmth still didn’t return. The cold air already inside lingered.
She had long since grown used to this. Human beings are wired for survival—when it’s cold, they seek heat. One day, she would learn to light her own flame.
Xu Weishuang hugged her cold body tightly, knowing she had to learn how to kindle that fire on her own.
…
The days passed uneventfully. Xu Weishuang moved into the hotel with the production team, and Yan Muyu didn’t call again. Only through a new acquaintance, Dan Keke, did she hear some updates about Yan Muyu.
Mostly business events—and appearances with Xu Xia.
Not only were fans curious, but even the media and netizens began speculating about why Yan Muyu kept Xu Xia by her side.
One paparazzi even bluntly asked, “You bring Miss Xu Xia everywhere—doesn’t your wife mind?”
The clip went viral. With the media adding fuel to the fire, people started criticizing Yan Muyu.
Some even dug up old dirt on Xu Weishuang, saying she once blackmailed Yan Muyu into marriage, or that she was a hopeless romantic who gave up her career for love.
Now those same narratives were being flipped to target Yan Muyu—saying Xu Weishuang had loved her deeply, and yet Yan Muyu still flaunted a relationship with another woman.
What had once been used to smear Xu Weishuang was now used to attack Yan Muyu.
But her PR team acted fast. The story was that Xu Xia was a newly signed artist under Yan Muyu’s company. The company was small, with few artists, and it wasn’t unusual for the boss to personally help newcomers.
Still, her attentiveness to Xu Xia was obvious, which only fed the rumors.
Xu Weishuang wasn’t swayed. With Yan Muyu’s and the Yan family’s status, as long as there were no compromising photos, this kind of gossip wouldn’t affect her much.
She focused on acting and ignored the news about Yan Muyu and herself.
She had already decided to wait until filming wrapped before talking to Yan Muyu about divorce—but she didn’t expect to see her before that day came.
Yan Muyu suddenly appeared on set, claiming she was there to visit Xu Weishuang.
“Xiaoshuang.” She stood in front of her, eyes soft and affectionate.
She reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. The gesture was intimate and caught the attention of everyone nearby.
Xu Weishuang was startled at first, unsure why Yan Muyu had come.
Her body, however, had long since gotten used to her touch. She instinctively leaned into Yan Muyu’s fingers, a docile expression that surprised the crew.
After working together for over two months, everyone knew Xu Weishuang was cold and expressionless outside of acting. Yet now, she looked so dependent on Yan Muyu.
Dan Keke stood off to the side, visibly swooning at the display.
The crew often recorded behind-the-scenes footage—mainly of the leads interacting off-camera, since fans loved shipping couples.
But today, with the superstar Yan Muyu dropping by, this was a golden opportunity. Director Li Yun quickly had the camera rolling to capture their interaction, then asked if they could post it online.
“Of course,” Yan Muyu replied with a smile.
Xu Weishuang had still been wondering about her real purpose—until she heard this exchange and suddenly understood.
Yan Muyu was here to prove their relationship was solid, to dispel rumors of infidelity.
The crew would capture their intimate behavior and post it. Even if they didn’t, Yan Muyu likely had paparazzi ready to catch the moment.
Xu Weishuang lowered her gaze, her long lashes hiding the emotion in her eyes.
She had thought Yan Muyu could easily handle the public backlash. But she hadn’t expected this method.
“Director Li,” Yan Muyu said suddenly, “may I borrow Xu Weishuang for a moment?”
“Of course! She’s done for the day—she can leave now if she likes.” Li Yun was thrilled that such a big star knew her name, and also recalled Xu Weishuang mentioning divorce.
As the saying goes, better to destroy a temple than break up a couple. Li Yun hoped they’d resolve their issues.
She wasn’t the only one who cared—if they really divorced, their teacher Lin would be worried too.
Xu Weishuang might be cold, but she had clung to her decision to marry Yan Muyu even when her career was just starting, despite all the criticism. That was clearly love.
Especially seeing her gaze just now—did that look like someone who had fallen out of love?
Soon, Xu Weishuang was taken to the nanny van outside set. Just the two of them, no one else inside.
Away from cameras and people, Yan Muyu finally let go of her hand. That quick release confirmed everything for Xu Weishuang.
She had only come to stage a scene, to maintain their public image.
Xu Weishuang was used to yielding to her and knew that rejecting Yan Muyu in public would have serious consequences.
But she didn’t expect that once they were alone, it would be Yan Muyu who no longer wanted to act.
She let go of Xu Weishuang’s hand so quickly, as if it were something dirty.
Just as Xu Weishuang was drawing this conclusion, Yan Muyu suddenly leaned in and buried her face in her neck.
A move they only made during intimate moments—not in everyday life.
It stunned Xu Weishuang, her breath catching.
“If I hadn’t come, would you never have called me again?” Yan Muyu asked in a low voice, her breath warm against her ear, voice a mixture of confusion and hurt.
It stirred sympathy in anyone who heard it.
Xu Weishuang blinked instinctively, stunned not only by the gesture, but also by its strange intent.
There were no cameras now—why continue acting?
And if she wasn’t acting, why speak in such a soft, coaxing tone?
Yan Muyu had never coaxed her like this—not even in bed, where she had always been the one in control.
Besides, she had Xu Xia now—so why come back to entangle with Xu Weishuang?
Xu Weishuang frowned and pushed her away, only to be met with eyes still brimming with affection.
Too many questions, too few answers.
So she asked directly what she wanted to know:
“Yan Muyu, what is Xu Xia to you?”
“And what are we to each other?”
