The Prime Minister Knows How to Handle Her Wife (ABO, GL) - Chapter 35
Chapter 35
In the thick darkness of the night, a yellow-haired dog scratched the ground with its front paws, pushed hard with its back legs, and rushed forward.
Behind it, a woman with a high ponytail and spirited eyes followed closely. After her came a group of people wearing dark constable uniforms. They all carried long swords at their waists, and their gazes scanned every direction, taking in all the surroundings.
When the big yellow dog suddenly stopped and turned its head toward a deserted mansion nearby, everyone silently halted.
“Leader,” someone whispered, asking.
“It should be here. Send people to check the surroundings. If there are guards, take them down immediately,” Fang Huaying said first.
She continued, “Have the others prepare. As soon as the signal sounds, we rush in.”
Everyone agreed.
Fang Huaying frowned as she looked at the mansion, showing a trace of worry.
This matter involved many things. She wasn’t even sure if others in the government were involved, so she only dared to use her one hundred trusted subordinates. Fortunately, Sheng Shiyue saw she lacked manpower and sent three hundred private soldiers from her mansion to help, making a total of four hundred people.
Although Madam Jin said four hundred people were enough, inside were not only her fiancée but also the Ninth Princess, Meng Xiaosi, and others. If something went wrong…
Fang Huaying unconsciously touched the dog’s head beside her, her eyes fixed on the mansion ahead.
In the complex tunnels, Sheng Shiyue and Ye Liuyun moved one behind the other, following the map’s directions, hurrying forward quickly.
Thanks to Tian Ling’s repeated explorations, the patterns were fully understood, allowing Sheng Shiyue and Ye Liuyun to avoid most guards and reach their destination without major danger.
“We’re here,” they said.
Seeing a tunnel ahead that only one person could pass through, both sighed in relief and looked at the guard standing there.
According to Madam Jin, this guard had steady breathing and a solid stance, likely the most skilled here. They hadn’t dared confront him directly before. Only Tian Ling, posing as the head steward, could sneak inside.
Since Sheng Shiyue and Ye Liuyun lacked Tian Ling’s skills, they planned for Ye Liuyun to intercept him first.
As they thought, the guard noticed Sheng Shiyue and Ye Liuyun approaching. He shifted his left foot to the side, taking a defensive stance, and said in a low voice, “Who?”
If it were the head steward, he would respond with a code.
But Sheng Shiyue and Ye Liuyun didn’t. They walked straight toward him.
The guard felt confused but didn’t act immediately. After all, nothing had ever happened here, and if the head steward was in a bad mood and answered slowly, that was normal.
So the guard stood still and asked again, “Head steward?”
Ye Liuyun, behind, acted immediately, throwing a punch. The guard jolted in shock but quickly reacted, raising his arm to block.
Meanwhile, Sheng Shiyue dashed past him into the tunnel.
There was no need to worry about the sound of fighting spreading. To keep this place’s secrets hidden, only this guard and another far at the entrance stood watch to prevent guests from wandering in.
Sheng Shiyue ran wildly and reached a stone chamber. A sealed stone door stood outside, requiring a matching key to open.
This was why the guard didn’t rush to chase Sheng Shiyue and focused on fighting Ye Liuyun.
But this didn’t stop Sheng Shiyue. The Thousand Gates group’s old trade made a mere iron lock no challenge. When Tian Ling first came, she used candle wax to copy the lock’s shape and made a key the next day.
Sheng Shiyue gripped the copper lock, twisted it hard, and pushed. The seemingly difficult door opened easily.
The stone chamber wasn’t large, a square space. A glowing pearl lit the ceiling, bookshelves lined three walls, and a heavy wooden desk stood in the center with pens, ink, and a ledger on it.
Sheng Shiyue didn’t delay. She stepped forward, reaching for the ledger, but suddenly heard a loud boom, similar to the sound of a shrine mechanism sliding earlier.
Was there another hidden passage?
No wonder Madam Jin couldn’t find how they moved the silver or the ledger.
The left bookshelf slowly shifted to one side, and light seeped through the gap.
The door was still open, so hiding was impossible.
A flash of resolve crossed Sheng Shiyue’s eyes. She stepped toward the bookshelf, pressing her back against it. Using the blind spot where no one would see her immediately, she peeked toward the gap.
In a moment, the bookshelf fully opened. The person took half a step out, saw the half-open door, and shouted, “Who’s inside?”
The response was a gust of force from a fist.
The person reacted quickly, almost instinctively, raising their right hand, palm open, to block the punch.
Sheng Shiyue, fully masked, saw the person clearly, and her pupils shrank.
Sixth Sister!
Sheng Xianyin, who usually acted like a refined scholar, had great strength, likely from martial arts training. After blocking Sheng Shiyue’s punch, she curled her fingers, turning the disadvantage into an advantage, grabbing Sheng Shiyue’s fist and pulling it toward her.
Sheng Shiyue tilted forward, instinctively stepping half a step with her left foot into a bow stance, barely resisting the pull.
Sheng Xianyin didn’t relax. One hand held tight, while the other reached like an eagle’s claw toward the veiled hat on Sheng Shiyue’s head.
If she discovered her identity, it would be disastrous!
Sheng Shiyue quickly stepped back, forcefully pulling her hand free, retreating three steps as if exhausted.
Her strength was actually decent. As someone who rode horses and played polo often, she wouldn’t last long on horseback without stamina, let alone swing a mallet.
Plus, she had been practicing archery lately, pulling bowstrings daily. From sore arms needing Qu Li’s nightly massages to now being fully adapted, her physique had improved. But her lazy demeanor—sitting whenever possible, lying on a chaise longue at any chance—hid her vigor, making others misjudge her.
Seeing her escape, Sheng Xianyin immediately stepped forward to chase.
Sheng Shiyue didn’t want to tangle. The other was clearly a skilled martial artist with years of training. She wouldn’t foolishly fight head-on. Instead, she circled, trying to stall until Ye Liuyun dealt with the guard and arrived.
Sheng Xianyin was decisive. Since her face was seen, she wouldn’t let the other leave alive.
Books from the shelf were grabbed randomly and thrown at Sheng Xianyin.
Sheng Xianyin raised her hand to swat them away. Pages scattered, fluttering in the air, falling with a patter.
The seemingly gentle but ruthless person didn’t pause, letting pages hit her body, grabbing at Sheng Shiyue again with one hand.
Sheng Shiyue quickly turned to dodge.
At this critical moment, a earth-shaking boom came from afar. Even this distant chamber shook briefly, the glowing pearl above wobbled, and bits of plaster fell.
“What did you do?!” Sheng Xianyin was shocked and angry, knowing without thinking that this was the work of the person’s allies.
Sheng Shiyue wouldn’t answer, nor dared to. If Sixth Sister noticed anything odd and made the connection, Meng Qingxin and the others wouldn’t escape.
In her rage, Sheng Xianyin attacked Sheng Shiyue recklessly.
Sheng Shiyue dodged desperately but couldn’t match the other’s speed. Several punches landed, slowing her movements.
Fortunately, Ye Liuyun had finished the guard and rushed into the chamber, her footsteps echoing in the tunnel.
Sheng Shiyue’s face lit up, making Sheng Xianyin realize the danger. A flash of resolve crossed her face. She suddenly ignored Sheng Shiyue, turned to grab the ledger, and planned to flee.
After so much effort to get here, how could Sheng Shiyue let her succeed? Ignoring the pain, she slapped Sheng Xianyin’s back.
With a heavy strike, Sheng Xianyin grunted, unable to resist. Sheng Shiyue turned her palm into a claw, grabbed the cloth on her shoulder, and yanked back hard.
Sheng Xianyin was pulled away, shouting in anger, “Get lost!”
As she spoke, she turned and struck at Sheng Shiyue.
Both pulled and dodged, their steps unsteady.
Sheng Shiyue swayed and fell to the ground. Sheng Xianyin also tilted forward, falling.
With a thud, pages flew, the chamber grew messier, and distant shouts of soldiers rose.
Had Fang Huaying and her team broken in?
Sheng Shiyue’s head spun from the fall, but before she could recover, Sheng Xianyin, now alert, grabbed at her veiled hat again, still wanting to know who she was.
Sheng Shiyue quickly raised her hand, grabbed her wrist, and pushed up. They locked in a stalemate, veins bulging, arms trembling.
Footsteps grew closer.
Seeing she couldn’t remove the hat, Sheng Xianyin raised her other hand and hammered at Sheng Shiyue’s head. Sheng Shiyue, holding one wrist and protecting her hat, couldn’t block.
Punch after punch, Sheng Xianyin aimed viciously at her temples.
Sheng Shiyue’s head throbbed, unable to dodge despite trying.
Her grip on the wrist loosened. Seeing this, Sheng Xianyin reached for the hat again.
Sheng Shiyue mustered a bit of clarity, dodging with a tilt of her head, catching a glimpse of the other’s raised fist.
If she let her keep hitting, she’d be dead before Ye Liuyun arrived!
She bent her legs, pushed against the other, and grabbed downward. The dagger Lord Wu’an had sent was hidden in her boot.
Too nervous earlier, she forgot it. Now, at life-or-death, she remembered this long-neglected weapon.
The dagger unsheathed with a cold ring.
Sheng Shiyue gripped the handle, slashing upward.
Sheng Xianyin flinched, too busy to attack, and tried to dodge. But her position slowed her half a step.
The sharp blade cut through her front, tearing cloth and skin. A square object fell out.
Sheng Xianyin grunted, rolling to the side.
Sheng Shiyue finally caught her breath but didn’t delay. She bent her legs, rose, and moved toward Sheng Xianyin.
Sheng Xianyin stood quickly, retreating.
Sheng Shiyue, now angry, didn’t stop, slashing at her repeatedly.
Though Sheng Xianyin was more skilled, even a master could fall to wild swings. With a weapon in hand, Sheng Shiyue’s chaotic attacks forced her to flee, unable to approach.
Footsteps in the tunnel closed in, about to reach the chamber.
Unwilling but out of options, Sheng Xianyin knew staying meant death. She turned to the hidden passage, slapped the side, and the bookshelf began to move.
Sheng Shiyue could chase but didn’t dare. Her battered head was dizzy, held up only by sheer will.
The bookshelf closed, and the figure vanished.
Sheng Shiyue looked at the ground. The object Sheng Xianyin dropped lay in bl00d. Even with blurry vision, she saw it was a jade seal.
Her steps faltered. She bent, picked it up, and as she tried to stand, her vision went white. Hearing Ye Liuyun’s shout, she collapsed, losing consciousness.
