The Princess Who Divorced Her Husband - Chapter 3.1
The nursemaid looked at her lady with great worry.
“Princess, please eat something, okay? You already skipped two meals yesterday, and you didn’t eat breakfast or lunch today either. If this goes on, your body won’t be able to take it!”
Looking at Yan Mei now, she was so different from the joyful, glowing bride she was just yesterday—the nanny’s heart ached with pain.
Yan Mei shook her head weakly and said, “I can’t eat, Nanny.” She pointed to her chest. “Do you know the saying ‘my heart is a tangled mess’? That’s exactly how I feel. My thoughts are a mess. I can’t think clearly or figure anything out. I…” She looked at her nanny like she was asking for help. “Nanny, what should I do?”
The nanny let out a long sigh. She had feared this might happen, but she didn’t think it would come so soon. Life was truly unpredictable.
“Miss, what do you think?” The nanny asked gently.
“I…” Yan Mei’s beautiful face was filled with sadness. “What else can I think? There’s nothing left for me to think about. They love each other willingly. What am I, then? What’s left for me to fight for?”
“Miss…” Hearing such hopeless words made the nanny feel even worse.
“Am I wrong?” Yan Mei gave a bitter smile. “His heart already belongs to someone else! If I had any pride, I wouldn’t have accepted his leftover love.”
“Miss…”
“I don’t want to share my husband with another woman,” Yan Mei said in pain. “I can’t bear to know that the man I love has someone else in his heart. I just can’t do it.”
The nanny sighed again. “Miss, I understand your pain. Every woman wants the same. But…” She looked deeply at Yan Mei. “Think about your mother… She—”
“Young Master—!” A loud cry from outside interrupted the nanny’s words. The door suddenly burst open. Zuo Shengxing walked in with a face full of anger.
As soon as his eyes locked with Yan Mei’s, his voice echoed loudly above her head.
“Yan Mei, you’ve gone too far! If you’re angry, take it out on me! Why did you go after Xiao Xue? Why did you make her cry? I can’t believe you would do something like that. I must have been wrong about you!”
Disappointment and rage filled Zuo Shengxing’s chest. Just moments ago, he had felt guilt and regret toward Yan Mei, but now, all of that had vanished. He had truly wanted to love her, to make up for everything—but now, she had done this? The feeling of disappointment and heartache was like nothing he’d experienced before, and it made him even more furious.
Every word he spoke hit Yan Mei like a heavy blow and when he was done, her own anger reached its peak.
“Why are you saying this? Who told you that? Was it Xiao Xue?” Yan Mei was shaking with rage—this was the first time in her life she had been wrongly accused.
“If you don’t want people to know, don’t do it in the first place!” Zuo Shengxing said coldly.
“Fine! Then let’s go find out the truth!” Yan Mei said and rushed out.
“Wait, where are you going?” Zuo Shengxing quickly stepped in front of her.
Yan Mei glared at him. “I’m going to confront your precious Xiao Xue! Now move!”
“What if I won’t let you?” he challenged, staring her down.
Seeing him defend Xiao Xue like that, all Yan Mei felt was heartbreak.
“You’d better not stop me!” she said through clenched teeth. “Don’t forget, my father, Prince Yongjun, is still a guest at your Governor’s residence. If you want a public scandal, I won’t stop it!”
Zuo Shengxing gave her a harsh glare but stepped aside.
“Hmph!” Yan Mei turned and stormed off.
“Miss…” The nanny hurried to follow her.
“Damn it!” Zuo Shengxing clenched his fists and followed too.

“Xiao Xue! Get out here!” Yan Mei’s voice roared through the courtyard.
Startled and scared, Xiao Xue walked out.
“Miss…”
“Don’t call me that!” Yan Mei snapped. Just seeing Xiao Xue’s fake, innocent face made her angrier. She had always believed she was smart, but now she realized even she could fall into a trap—one laid by a scheming girl like Xiao Xue.
“You said I scolded you? When did I ever scold you? Say it!”
“Miss…” Xiao Xue covered her mouth as tears filled her eyes.
Yan Mei let out a cold laugh. “What’s this now? More fake tears? Do you think I’ll fall for that again?”
“Young Master…” Xiao Xue turned to Zuo Shengxing for help.
“Yan Mei, have you had enough?” Zuo Shengxing finally snapped. He couldn’t take Yan Mei’s aggressive behavior anymore.
“No, not until she clears my name!” Yan Mei turned to Xiao Xue and said sharply, “Do you dare to swear an oath? Swear that I yelled at you, that I bullied you. Do it if you dare!”
“I…” Tears streamed down Xiao Xue’s face. She slowly raised her hand. “I swear to the heavens…”
“You don’t have to do this, Xiao Xue.” Zuo Shengxing gently pulled her hand down.
“You…” Yan Mei stared at him, her face pale.
“I believe Xiao Xue,” he said loudly. “I’ve known her for seven years. She would never lie to me.”
“So you’re saying I’m the liar?” Yan Mei asked through gritted teeth.
Zuo Shengxing looked at her without expression. He didn’t answer.
“She never lies, Young Master. I can stake my life on that,” the nanny said, unable to stay silent any longer.
“You’re her nanny. Of course you’d say that.” His voice was cold.
“Enough!” Yan Mei looked at him with pain in her eyes, screaming silently in her heart, “Zuo Shengxing… even my nanny stands up for me. But you? You’re my husband, yet you only defend someone else. How could you do this to me?”
She felt a wave of heat rush to her eyes. She turned and quickly walked out. She refused to cry in front of them.
