- The Princess Who Saw the Fall of Her Homeland Strives to Change Fate by Becoming the Cold Prince's Bride!
- Chapter 10 - The Rabbit Talked!?
Elze spent an entire day quietly.
She observed the movements of the servants and other bride candidates.
And then—
“…Alright!”
After finishing the lunch brought by the servants, Elze finally took action.
Once lunch was over, no servants would visit her room until dinnertime.
That meant she had time to move freely.
At first, she thought about simply walking out the door.
But the hallway outside was surprisingly busy with people passing by.
No matter how fast she moved, there was a high chance of being caught and sent back to her room.
But Elze wasn’t the type to give up so easily.
“If I can’t use the door, I’ll just find another way out.”
With a determined look, she pulled out a makeshift rope made from tied-together bed sheets and curtains.
She peeked outside the window to check if anyone was watching… then threw the rope down in one swift motion.
She grabbed hold of it and slid down skillfully, landing gracefully on the ground.
“Phew… I’m glad my room was only on the second floor.”
She quickly hid the rope in a nearby bush and let out a small sigh of relief.
Since she had attached a hook to the end, she could simply hook it onto the window and climb back up when she returned.
Now, until dinnertime, she was free.
“Alright, what should I do first?”
Excited by her newfound freedom, Elze looked around.
“Good work today!”
“Ah, good work.”
Elze confidently walked through the corridors, greeting passing servants cheerfully.
(It worked! I really do look like a servant!)
She smirked as she caught her reflection in the polished marble floor.
After sneaking out of her room, she had managed to find her way to the servants’ linen room.
Guessing there might be something useful inside, she searched around and found a maid’s uniform.
She changed out of her dress, put on the uniform, and tied her hair at the back of her head.
Now, she looked just like any other servant, free to walk around without suspicion.
After hiding her dress along with the rope, she put on a serious “I’m working” face and strolled confidently through the palace.
(So this is how a big country works… They don’t even bother remembering their servants’ faces. In Magliel, everyone would know their names, families, and even their personal lives.)
As she noted the differences between her homeland and this place, Elze stayed alert.
(Where is Richard? If he’s out like when he saved me, maybe I should come back another time…)
As she wandered while thinking, she eventually found herself in a quiet grassy area.
Richard probably wouldn’t be in a place like this.
Just as she was about to turn back, a strange rustling sound reached her ears.
“What was that…?”
Curious, she searched for the source of the noise and quickly found it.
A small rabbit was caught in a metal trap on the ground, its leg stuck.
Its desperate struggle to escape was what had made the noise.
“It’s just a baby…”
The rabbit was tiny, its pure white fur stained with bl00d.
If no one helped, it wouldn’t be long before it ended up as someone’s meal.
“This world is all about survival of the fittest. Maybe this was its fate… But—”
Elze knelt beside the rabbit and gently stroked its little head to calm it down.
“Did you know? Fate can be changed.”
This poor rabbit was just like her—marked for destruction along with her homeland by Richard.
That’s why she wanted to save it.
She wanted to prove that fate wasn’t set in stone.
“If I just do this… There! Got it!”
It took some effort, but she managed to free the rabbit from the trap.
The little creature blinked its large eyes and looked up at her in surprise.
Elze smiled.
“You’re safe now… Alright, hurry back home before someone finds—”
“Wow! Thank you!”
“Huh?”
Elze’s eyes widened at the sudden voice.
She quickly looked around, but there was no one Elze nearby.
Then… that voice just now…
“Hey, can you hear me properly?”
“The rabbit… talked!?”
Even after sharpening her abilities to sense the world around her, she had never heard of animals speaking before!
Too shocked, she fell back onto the ground.
The little rabbit hopped onto her lap and peered at her curiously.
“Are you okay? Why did you fall over?”
“Why—? Why is a rabbit talking!?”
“Hmm, I wonder… Oh!”
The rabbit’s ears perked up as if realizing something.
And then, something even more unbelievable happened.
“Maybe… I’m not actually a rabbit!”
Just as it said that, pure white wings suddenly sprouted from its back.
