- The Real Daughter Needs Saving by This Vicious Female Cannon Fodder?
- Chapter 30 - Hmm, If She Pursues the Female Lead
Ning Anran had rarely served others before. Most of the time, she worked part-time jobs to earn her own living expenses.
The daily scolding and beatings from her parents were commonplace to her, but those two would rather not see her at all.
The only person Ning Anran had ever attended to so meticulously was the Second Young Miss, Gu Xia.
Picking up the hairdryer, Ning Anran removed the towel wrapped around Gu Xia’s damp hair.
As the hairdryer hummed to life, Ning Anran carefully combed through Gu Xia’s long locks with practiced ease, the warm air never too hot against her scalp.
Gu Xia felt so comfortable she could almost fall asleep, lazily resting her chin against Ning Anran’s firm abdomen.
This woman’s figure was really something…
So much so that Gu Xia’s sluggish mind could only conjure one thought—No wonder she’s the female lead.
“Remember to dry your hair properly when I’m not around. Don’t be lazy and just jump into bed half-dried.”
Seeing Gu Xia’s drowsy expression, Ning Anran sighed inwardly, though she didn’t quite understand why she couldn’t help but nag at her a little.
“Ning Anran, are you lecturing me?”
Go ahead, lecture me more.
As long as Ning Anran didn’t bother with the male lead, it was fine.
“If that’s how the Second Young Miss wants to interpret it, then so be it.”
Ning Anran turned off the hairdryer and crouched down. The dim bedroom light reflected in her eyes like shimmering water.
“Don’t catch a cold and then call me out of the office to come take care of you.”
This was the first time Ning Anran had smiled at her.
Gu Xia was so stunned she gulped.
“Can I really do that?”
The moment she said it, Gu Xia mentally screamed at herself—Gu Xia, you idiot, what are you doing?! You want the female lead to abandon work just for you?
Isn’t that a bit too delusional?
But what could she do? Ning Anran gave her an inch, and she wanted to take a mile.
“If you just want to see me, Second Young Miss, there’s no need to deliberately catch a cold.”
“You can just call me.”
“After all, I owe you quite a few things—and quite a bit of money.”
Putting the hairdryer back in place, Ning Anran didn’t wait for Gu Xia’s soft plea this time. She dutifully lifted the blanket, preparing to warm the bed in advance.
Seeing Ning Anran settle in, Gu Xia assumed she was tired and obediently slipped under the covers as well.
But barely two minutes after closing her eyes, her phone on the nightstand chimed with a ding-dong.
Well, so much for sleeping early.
Though Gu Xia wanted to be a good girl and sleep on time, the incessant notifications lured her into picking up her phone almost unconsciously.
With a click, her face unlocked the screen.
Xiaxia, have you really turned over a new leaf?
Â
Fei Fei and I have @’ed you in the group chat so many times! You haven’t replied once!
Â
Come out and have fun! What’s the point of sleeping so early? Don’t tell me you’ve started getting into health routines at your young age!
That damn Yu Yingying had even sent voice messages! The female lead was lying right beside her, eyes closed, seemingly on the verge of sleep.
Gu Xia’s fingers trembled slightly, not daring to play the audio outright. Instead, she tapped to convert it to text.
Good thing I had the foresight.
Otherwise, the first thing she’d hear would be Yu Yingying’s loose lips declaring she’d “turned over a new leaf.”
Seriously, when did I ever give people the impression that—
Okay, fine. Before I woke up, I really was that kind of mess!
“Turn on the light if you’re going to use your phone. Don’t look at it in such dim lighting—it’s bad for your eyes.”
Ning Anran’s hand landed on Gu Xia’s exposed shoulder, her warm palm covering the cool skin as she pulled Gu Xia into an embrace.
She smelled sweet.
Gu Xia thought she must be going crazy. They used the same shower gel, so why did Ning Anran smell so good?
Because of love~
A little tune popped into her mind at the worst possible moment—her system had decided to chime in.
“System, how can you say that when you see my -38% favorability rating? That’s utterly ridiculous!”
“Ah, Host, don’t be so hard on yourself! -38% isn’t bad at all—just a few days ago, you were at -100%!”
That was true.
She liked hearing that.
Gu Xia obediently reached over and turned on the bedside lamp, and Ning Anran’s beautiful face immediately filled her vision.
Ning Anran was warm, and the way she held her was so comfortable—her long legs pressed against Gu Xia’s thighs, sending a tingling sensation through her heart.
Actually… actually, it wouldn’t be so bad to like the female lead instead of that scumbag male lead.
If… if she pursued Ning Anran, would she agree?
Seeing how Ning Anran’s disgust toward her had plummeted over the past few days, Gu Xia felt she might have a chance.
“Why are you staring at me instead of using your phone?”
“Do I have flowers on my face?”
Ning Anran opened her eyes, her nose brushing against Gu Xia’s cheek as she spoke in a low, husky voice.
Gu Xia felt like her entire body was melting. Ning Anran was just too sweet.
And so… restrained.
Even though she was holding her like this, she wasn’t doing anything else—just warming her up.
“You’re pretty. Can’t I look?”
In a moment of thoughtlessness, Gu Xia blurted out the words, though thankfully it was just a bold compliment.
Ning Anran closed her eyes and answered,
“You can look. Right now, I belong entirely to Second Miss Gu. You can do whatever you want.”
Hiss—
Did Ning Anran even realize how unfair it was to say something like that?!
Had she always been this much of a tease?
Since when did the female lead a flirtatious beauty?!
“Host, just admit it—you’re practically hooked like a fish!”
“Shut up! Do I have any dignity left if you say that?”
“Host, what’s the use of dignity? Going for it is the righteous path!”
“Ning Anran, don’t be like this… You’re making me fall for you…”
Her voice grew quieter. Gu Xia felt like she was being ridiculous—she’d turned on the light but now had no interest in her phone.
She ignored Yu Yingying’s frantic messages on the other end of the chat.
“Your heart is moving.”
“I can hear it.”
Ning Anran still didn’t open her eyes, but she held Gu Xia tighter.
In truth, Ning Anran’s breathing had also become uneven. She didn’t know why Gu Xia was suddenly saying such ambiguous, suggestive things.
Was she planning to date her, then cruelly dump her to humiliate her?
Ning Anran wasn’t some sheltered flower—she’d worked part-time jobs and seen girls who liked each other, holding hands and leaning close.
But if that was Gu Xia’s goal, the sacrifice seemed too great.
She was just an ordinary, poor girl—what else could Gu Xia possibly want from her?
“That’s not the kind of ‘heart moving’ I meant…”
Gu Xia leaned in close to Ning Anran’s ear as she spoke.
Her warm, slightly damp breath brushed against Ning Anran’s sensitive ear, and then, in a soft, gentle voice, Gu Xia asked her,
“Ning Anran, have you ever liked someone before?”
