- Chapter 37 - She Has Ill Intentions Toward the Female Lead!?
Finding her a well-paying job.
Preparing a car for her.
Paying off her overdue tuition.
Buying her a winter down jacket.
Giving her her first piece of chocolate.
Every single thing, Ning Anran could remember them all.
“Ning Anran, don’t give all your clothes to me. Aren’t you cold like this?”
Watching Ning Anran’s slender fingers hook onto her own collar, Gu Xia felt her chest grow warm, almost burning.
She couldn’t even be bothered to care where that annoying male lead was at the moment.
“I’m not cold.”
“Gu Xia, let’s go inside.”
“It wouldn’t be good if you caught a cold.”
Ning Anran glanced back just as Gu Lindong stepped out of the car.
The items in the Bentley remained mostly in their original positions, and Gu Lindong had also pulled out a spare umbrella, opening it with a flick of her wrist.
What could she do? Her dear little sister was like a leaky quilt—utterly unreliable.
So, as the older sister, she had no choice but to hug herself for warmth.
“President Gu… Why are you here too…”
Cheng Chen was already drenched in cold sweat, his heart pounding in terror, teeth clenched tight.
Who truly held power in the Gu Corporation? Cheng Chen knew very well. The elderly couple of the Gu family were currently expanding overseas business and rarely returned home except during holidays.
“Why can’t I be here?”
“This is my home.”
“But you—a grown, unfamiliar man loitering outside my house—doesn’t that seem a bit suspicious?”
“Let’s call the police.”
Though Gu Lindong’s icy words were directed at Cheng Chen, Gu Xia couldn’t help feeling like she was being scolded too!
“Big Sis is right. Let’s call the police and have this shady stranger kicked out.”
Her little mouth wasn’t usually this sweet when talking to her. But now, seeing her stare at Ning Anran like a guilty rabbit, ears perked up and fully alert—
Was she really that fond of her?
Gu Lindong had already asked herself this question 108 times in her heart.
In terms of looks, she wasn’t inferior to Ning Anran. And when it came to treating her sister well, Gu Lindong truly believed she didn’t fall short either.
Of course, this assumption was based on her ignorance of Gu Xia privately asking Ning Anran to “warm her bed.”
“That’s true. Your thoughts are becoming harder and harder for me to guess these days.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t do anything to Miss Ning.”
“I have an international conference call tonight to discuss the project here with Mom and Dad.”
“My dear little sister, remember to sleep early, okay?”
Gu Lindong stretched out her slender fingers and lightly flicked Gu Xia’s forehead before turning to look at Ning Anran.
The rain had begun to ease, but Cheng Chen’s wails still echoed in everyone’s ears. Fortunately, the security guards acted swiftly, dragging him into a nearby car.
“What are you howling about? Are you even a man?”
“Following the Second Young Miss of the Gu family in the middle of the night?”
A security guard lifted his black boot and kicked Cheng Chen’s trousers, leaving a watery footprint on his backside.
Cheng Chen tumbled into the car, the stench inside nearly making him vomit.
“What do you mean I followed her?!”
“Do you even know your Second Young Miss used to be crazy about me? You—”
Slumped over the seat, Cheng Chen shouted in fury.
“Past is past, present is present. Kid, you don’t actually think your freeloading act still works, do you?”
“How about I get you a job delivering food?”
“It’s hard work, but at least it’s honest labor. You should really give up on your sugar baby ambitions.”
The security guard took the driver’s seat, set the GPS to Qingshui City’s central police station, and prepared to haul this presumptuous brat there.
High beams cut through the darkness.
Ning Anran didn’t avoid Gu Lindong’s gaze – she knew Gu Lindong was a protective elder sister who cared deeply about her younger sibling.
Rubbing her forehead, Gu Xia watched the tense standoff between the two women with growing anxiety.
“System! System!”
“If my sister really tries to do something bad to the female lead later, remember to deploy a smoke bomb immediately!”
“When I count to one, I’m grabbing Ning Anran and running inside!”
“Understood, host. Though you haven’t unlocked the system store yet, releasing a smoke bomb is well within this system’s capabilities~”
Hearing this reassurance, Gu Xia sighed in relief internally. Good.
Ning Anran and Gu Lindong were about the same height, which meant Gu Xia was currently the shortest person present.
Seeing her younger sister’s worried expression, Gu Lindong reached out and pinched Gu Xia’s cheek hard.
“You ungrateful brat. I just wanted to remind your Ning Anran to take good care of you tonight.”
“And this is how you treat me?”
Hearing her sister use the possessive “your” when referring to Ning Anran, Gu Xia flushed crimson before she could even plead their case.
She’d only wanted to treat Ning Anran better after her awakening – why did everyone, even her own sister, think she had ulterior motives?
She! Gu Xia!! Absolutely did NOT lust after Ning Anran’s body!!!
Well… Ning Anran did have an amazing figure. Maybe occasionally admiring it in private wouldn’t hurt…
As the person Ning Anran hugged to sleep every night, her designated “bed warmer,” Gu Xia considered herself quite the authority on this matter.
Ning Anran just… just had this indescribable… intoxicating scent about her!
“Big sis, don’t be so harsh…”
Otherwise, she really feared her sister might drag Ning Anran aside for some dramatic threat like “Here’s ten million, stay away from my sister!”
Though such clichĂ©d melodrama seemed ridiculous, one mustn’t forget this was precisely the kind of over-the-top romance novel world where even the most absurd scenarios made perfect sense.
What truly distressed Gu Xia was that given Ning Anran’s current negative affection rating, she might actually take the money and leave!
No way. She couldn’t let the male lead get together with the female lead. So what if she had to fight for her?
Even if someone ended up as sandwich filling, it would be the male lead, not her.
Whenever Gu Xia was told to handle company accounts, she’d clutch her forehead claiming math headaches and feigning illness.
Her usual tactic was those pitiful puppy-dog eyes followed by saccharine pleas: “Sis… sis… please!”
“I don’t wanna go, my head hurts… I don’t feel well, sis…”
“Sis, do you really want me to go? Sis… I know you’re the best to me, you wouldn’t make your little sister go to the company to settle accounts while I’m still weak and sick, would you…”
Gu Lindong was helpless against this.
What else could she do? She’d raised this sister herself, so she had no choice but to spoil her.
“When have I ever been harsh with you? If you want to go find Ning Anran, then hurry up and go.”
“I still have work to do.”
Gu Lindong pushed Gu Xia into Ning Anran’s arms like shooing a little chick.
“Miss Ning, I’ll entrust my sister to your care tonight.”
“Don’t let her come bother me.”
With a resigned smile, Gu Lindong walked in first.
