- Chapter 49 - Auntie, That Was My Purchase
Gu Lindong also walked in slowly, closing the bedroom door behind her.
She looked at Ning Anran’s striking figure, which was captivating enough to make anyone pause, and couldn’t help but sigh inwardly—her Xiaxia had truly never suffered a day in her life since childhood.
She always demanded the best, whether it was food or the people she loved.
“Auntie, that was my purchase.”
Ning Anran lowered her eyes, unwilling to let Gu Xia take the blame from her mother. She believed in taking responsibility for her own actions—since she had bought it, she wouldn’t deny it.
This kind of gaze was something Ning Anran had already endured when she purchased the item at the specialty store.
Realizing her lack of knowledge in this area, Ning Anran had straightforwardly asked the clerk:
“Which one would make her feel more comfortable?”
Ning Anran’s presence was extraordinary. From the moment she entered the store, the clerk couldn’t take their eyes off her, silently marveling at how lucky someone would be to have a partner like her.
“Well, this one…”
“How about you take a look at this model?”
“It’s guaranteed to be very comfortable to use.”
When the clerk brought out the pink one, Ning Anran nodded immediately, paid, and took the small bag the clerk had packed for her.
Now, seeing Ning Anran’s face again, Gu’s mother sighed and casually tossed the item onto the table.
“Miss Ning, as Gu Xia’s mother, if you’ve suffered any grievances, you can speak to me directly.”
She then shot a sharp glance at Gu Lindong, who stood behind Ning Anran, before adding coolly:
“You don’t need to worry about Lindong doing anything to you. In this household—and even within the Gu Corporation—I still have the final say.”
Hearing her mother speak like this, Gu Xia’s internal alarms went off. This didn’t seem like her mother was trying to help Ning Anran—it felt more like a setup, a trap laid out for her.
“M-Mom!”
“Don’t be so harsh! Getting angry will give you wrinkles—it’s bad for your skin.”
Gu Xia’s obedient demeanor was something Gu’s mother had never witnessed in over twenty years. She glanced at her disappointing daughter before turning her attention back to Ning Anran.
“Auntie, I’m an adult.”
“I can take responsibility for my own actions.”
“Staying by Gu Xia’s side is my own choice. No one forced me.”
Ning Anran concealed all her embarrassment. She didn’t want to pin her own downfall entirely on Gu Xia.
If anyone was to blame for this, it should be herself.
If she hadn’t developed that inexplicable attachment to Gu Xia over a single piece of chocolate back then, she might have already moved out of this villa and returned to that cheap, damp, dimly lit basement—
Living alongside cockroaches and rats.
“You… should put on something warm first.”
Gu’s mother was left speechless. Since the person involved had already admitted in front of her that Gu Xia hadn’t forced her, what right did she have to interfere?
“Right, right!”
“Ning Anran, let me take you to change.”
“I’ll change out of this dress too…”
Finally seizing an opportunity to escape, Gu Xia grabbed Ning Anran’s slender arm and pulled her toward her wardrobe.
At the same time, Gu’s mother walked toward the bedroom door. Before leaving, she glanced once more at the small box she had tossed onto the coffee table.
Seeing the words “Gentle Edition” printed on it, she was momentarily at a loss for words. She never expected her precious daughter, who usually carried herself with such domineering confidence—like a bandit queen—to opt for something like this.
Now it was her turn to be taken care of by someone else.
…
Ning Anran was pulled into the changing room by Gu Xia.
Outside the window, the swaying green trees cast shadows under the streetlights, their leaves overlapping in layers. If you listened carefully, you could hear the rustling sounds.
“Gu Xia, did I just put you in an awkward position?”
The stern expression on Gu Xia’s mother’s face was still vivid in Ning Anran’s mind. The fingertips of her other hand unconsciously dug into the flesh of her palm.
She didn’t want Gu Xia to feel troubled because of her or to argue with her family.
That kind of feeling wasn’t pleasant at all.
“No, Ning Anran… don’t take it to heart. My mom is just that kind of person—she’s worried I might be completely fooled by you, which is why she questioned you like that.”
Holding Ning Anran’s face in both hands, Gu Xia glanced at the thin, tight-fitting T-shirt she was wearing and simply pulled her into an embrace, using her own body to warm Ning Anran.
“But when did you buy that thing?”
“I… I didn’t even see it earlier.”
Of course she hadn’t seen it—if she had, she would have absolutely, definitely put it away immediately!
Leaving something like that blatantly on the coffee table was practically announcing to the world that she was some kind of desperate woman!
“Before your birthday.”
“I looked up the relevant information. Using that would be safer.”
Cough, cough, cough! The female lead’s straightforwardness was the most effective attack! Gu Xia felt even her fortress-like composure beginning to crumble, her mental defenses collapsing into ruins.
The words of reproach on Gu Xia’s lips were swallowed back.
Forget it—Ning Anran had bought that thing with her in mind. What kind of person would she be to scold her for no reason?
“Gu Xia, is the reason you don’t want to accept my birthday gift because you’re afraid I can’t give you pleasure?”
The physical contact allowed Ning Anran’s fingertips to rest on Gu Xia’s spine. She could smell the sweet, fresh fragrance on Gu Xia.
This was a question Ning Anran had thought about for a long time.
Even when borrowing books at the library, she would see couples hugging and kissing. Though Ning Anran knew she and Gu Xia weren’t a couple, she still felt she could provide what Gu Xia wanted.
Here we go again!!!
Gu Xia was so startled that she immediately let go of Ning Anran’s face, taking three steps in one stride to her wardrobe.
Opening the wardrobe, she pulled out a turtleneck sweater.
Why did Ning Anran always do this?! Gu Xia now seriously suspected Ning Anran might pin her to the bed any second…
“Put this on.”
“Even though the room has heating, you shouldn’t wear so little.”
Taking the sweater, Ning Anran began removing her T-shirt.
She had undressed in front of Gu Xia many times before, so she naturally had no reservations.
“Wait, let me turn around first…”
Turning away, Gu Xia stood straight as a soldier, her posture so rigid it made Ning Anran chuckle softly.
The turtleneck sweater Gu Xia had picked for her was one Ning Anran had seen her wear before. Whether it was due to their different body types or some other reason, Ning Anran always felt it was a bit tight on her. Her fingertips hooked the collar of the sweater as she pulled her long hair free.
“Gu Xia, I’m dressed.”
Ning Anran took two steps forward to stand beside Gu Xia. Hearing her voice, Gu Xia turned her head to look.
Her palm moved away from her own eyes, revealing Ning Anran’s delicate features right before her. The black turtleneck sweater truly complemented her figure perfectly.
Gu Xia felt like she was being utterly captivated! Staring in a daze, she unconsciously licked her lips, her mind suddenly recalling the inappropriate slogan on that small box.
“Tonight, her passion belongs only to you.”
