- Chapter 55 - Never Regret It
“You… what did you just call me?! Little girl?!”
The man’s face flushed crimson with anger. He released his tight grip on the car door handle, flashing the large gold ring on his finger as he slicked back his greasy hair.
“Dead fatty pig.”
“What else should I call you?”
Gu Xia pushed the car door open and leaped out, casually removing the sunglasses from her head.
Two or three more SUVs screeched to a halt, completely blocking the intersection in front of the building.
The security guard had gone silent the moment he recognized Gu Xia. He edged closer to her, baton in hand, and whispered, “Second Young Miss, what’s going on here?”
Seeing that the guard had at least been sensible enough not to let Ning Anran’s father and this disgusting pig inside, Gu Xia spared him. Otherwise, she would have beaten him up too.
“Nothing. Go back to your post. Some people just need to be taught a lesson.”
As soon as she spoke, the black-suited bodyguards from the SUVs swarmed out.
Yu Yingying rolled down the car window, utterly baffled by the scene.
Wasn’t this right in front of Gu Xia’s own company? What was there to make such a fuss about?
Just as she thought this, a white Bentley up ahead opened its door, and Ning Anran stepped out.
“Dad, enough.”
“I don’t want to get married yet. I’ve already made it very clear to Mom.”
Ning Anran’s voice was icy, showing no intention of engaging further with the wiry man before her.
“Now, now, little lady, don’t be like that! Your father and I have shared drinks—we’re practically family!”
“Our marriage has already been mostly settled. All that’s left is for you to come home and marry me.”
This country woman, weathered by wind and sun, couldn’t hold a candle to a refined university student like Ning Anran. Just looking at her made his heart itch with desire.
Thinking of the hefty deposit he’d already paid, he felt this deal wasn’t a loss at all.
Seeing the man’s greasy gaze glued to Ning Anran, Gu Xia silently stepped forward and unloaded an entire can of pepper spray straight into his face!
“AAAAAHHH! MY EYES!”
A faint spicy scent lingered in the air. The security guard couldn’t help but wipe sweat from his brow, feeling as though the sting had reached his own eyes too.
The Second Young Miss’s notorious temper was truly living up to its reputation.
With a single wave of Gu Xia’s hand, a dozen bodyguards rushed forward and pinned the obese man to the ground.
“Listen here. If you ever harass Ning Anran again, next time I’ll toss you into boiling water to scrape off your pig hair.”
To play up her arrogant persona, Gu Xia adjusted her sunglasses, flipped her long curls, and crossed her arms.
The crowd buzzed, but the circle of bodyguards and black SUVs shielded the ugly scene from view.
Any passersby attempting to take photos were swiftly stopped by the guards—clearly, Gu Xia had given orders before arriving.
Ning Anran’s heart ached faintly as she stared at the man, his face bloated with fat, around forty years old. She remembered her mother standing in the flowerbed with a hose, talking about this blind date.
Her pleas, her words—her mother had never listened. And her father, completely disregarding her wishes, had brought a total stranger to force her into marriage.
The obese man kept rubbing his eyes, tears the size of beans streaming down his face. As he braced himself on the ground, the ill-fitting gold ring slipped off his finger.
“How much did he pay you?”
“Talk.”
Gu Xia opened her leather bag, deliberately revealing the stack of pink hundred-yuan bills she’d exchanged.
She grabbed a handful of notes, ready to hurl them at the man’s face.
“Damn it!”
“What’s it to you if I’m getting a wife?”
“You brought all these people—not afraid I’ll call the cops? Let me tell you, I’ve got connections at the city police station! You think I’m scared of you?”
“If you know what’s good for you, you’d better—”
Before the man could finish his noisy rant, a knee from one of the bodyguards behind him slammed into his back, pressing his flabby body flat against the ground.
He couldn’t even catch his breath.
“Apologize to Second Miss Gu.”
“Our Second Miss is asking you a question!”
This was one of the Gu family’s bodyguards, a team leader known for his sharp instincts. Hearing the man spew vulgarities at Gu Xia, he didn’t hesitate to kick him.
Gu Xia vaguely remembered this guy—after all, in the original plot, she’d been written with so many lackeys just to bully the female lead…
Now that she thought about it, it was suffocating!
But no matter. Turning trash into treasure was her specialty. Gu Xia bent down, looking at the man gasping for air.
She smiled faintly.
“Oh really?”
“Then why don’t you call the police chief right now and ask him how he’d handle this?”
“Oh, I forgot to mention—the chief of Qingshui City Police Department happens to be my dad’s old classmate. Maybe I’ll catch up with him while we’re at it.”
The highest level of showing off was when it wasn’t even an act—everything Gu Xia said was true.
The police officers who had received the emergency call jumped out of their patrol cars, frowning at the chaotic scene before them. They were puzzled, recalling the report they’d just received.
“Two women being harassed?”
“Is this what harassment looks like?”
The officer in uniform stepped forward, completely stunned by what he saw.
……
After leaving the police station,
Gu Xia noticed Ning Anran’s ears, red from the cold, and quickly unwrapped her own scarf to drape it around Ning Anran’s neck.
Rising on her tiptoes, she carefully wound the scarf around, adjusting it before letting it settle gently.
“Ning Anran, are you still cold?”
“If you are, do you want to hold my hand?”
The police were still interrogating the two men inside. Gu Xia had already instructed her people—once they were released, they were absolutely not to follow or seek out Ning Anran.
No answer came. Feeling the biting wind, Ning Anran silently reached out and took Gu Xia’s hand.
The chill gradually melted into warmth as Ning Anran walked forward. Gu Xia didn’t say anything more, simply matching her steps.
“Gu Xia, I think… I really don’t have a home anymore.”
Even someone as strong as Ning Anran had moments of exhaustion. Gu Xia didn’t like hearing her talk like this.
“Ning Anran, if you don’t have a home, then—let me be your family, okay?”
Two soft “okays” in a row made Ning Anran smile. She tightened her grip on the hand holding hers.
In a whisper, she replied,
“Okay.”
That’s right, Host! This is how it’s done! Congratulations—+5 favorability points from the female lead!
“Host~ The female lead’s favorability has unlocked to 11%. You’re getting further away from death~ Let the whole world rejoice!”
With no time to acknowledge the system’s congratulations, Gu Xia stood at the police station entrance and directly embraced Ning Anran’s body.
“Ning Anran, this is what you promised me.”
“Can you… can you promise never to go back on your word for a lifetime?”
She truly didn’t want to stand opposed to Ning Anran, to become enemies.
“Yes, I’ll never go back on my word for a lifetime.”
“Thank you, Gu Xia.”
