- The Real Daughter Needs Saving by This Vicious Female Cannon Fodder?
- Chapter 6 - I Want You to Be Available Anytime
Gu Lindong leaned against the car, sipping a cup of coffee she’d casually bought from a roadside stall. The bitter taste was far worse than what her assistant usually brewed.
But on this freezing day, she figured it was just something warm to chase away the chill.
“Sis, do you have a spare car key?”
Gu Xia arrived breathless, her cheeks flushed red from the cold.
Glancing down, Gu Lindong noticed the things Gu Xia had been carrying earlier were no longer in her hands—meaning Ning Anran had probably accepted them.
“What do you need it for? You don’t even have a driver’s license. Don’t get me dragged into trouble.”
Being an older sister wasn’t easy these days.
“Of course I’m not the one driving! Come on, sis, I just had dinner with Ning Anran.”
“She said she’d pick me up, but I can’t just hand her any random car key—that’d be so embarrassing.”
Gu Xia spoke earnestly, completely shameless.
Gu Lindong sighed in resignation.
“So you’re sacrificing my beloved car for Ning Anran’s pride?”
“Little sister, do I even exist in your eyes? Our sisterly bond must be thinner than paper.”
Despite her sharp words, she still pulled out the spare key and handed it over.
“I need this car back at the company tonight, so here’s another key for you.”
“Don’t bother returning it.”
Her words were music to Gu Xia’s ears. Spotting the “B” logo on the key, she beamed with satisfaction.
“Thanks, sis!”
Seeing her sister’s delight, Gu Lindong couldn’t help but feel a flicker of joy herself.
“The car’s at the repair shop right now. I’ll have them drive it near the Capital University parking lot later.”
“That way, Miss Ning won’t have to make an extra trip.”
She gave careful instructions. Her schedule was packed—if not for Gu Xia’s hospital discharge, she wouldn’t have taken the morning off. Otherwise, she’d have to wait for a holiday to return home.
……
Standing under the sycamore tree, Ning Anran had no intention of leaving.
Gu Xia had always been the type to demand obedience. If she left now, Gu Xia would surely cause trouble for her and her mother once she got home.
Her mother was already burdened with worries about her father—she didn’t need to bow and scrape to Gu Xia too.
Ning Anran could do that herself.
“Wasn’t that the department beauty from the art college next door? She’s so pretty—first time seeing her in person.”
“Yeah, what’s her deal with Goddess Ning? They looked pretty close. Was she bringing her a coat because of the cold?”
“Did you see her outfit? Must’ve cost tens of thousands.”
“Why envy her? She’s probably a kept woman. How else could someone so young afford designer brands?”
The gossip drifted over with the wind.
Ning Anran frowned slightly, displeased. Though she didn’t like Gu Xia, she couldn’t stand hearing her slandered like this.
Such baseless accusations were despicable.
Just as she was about to step forward and stop them from spreading rumors online—
A familiar voice called out from a distance. Gu Xia came running over, a car key in hand, her eyes sparkling with joy.
“Ning Anran, here, car keys.”
“This is my sister’s spare car. You can drive it as long as you want.”
Saying it like that made her sound a bit too much like a simp, which didn’t fit her persona.
So, Gu Xia guiltily added,
“It’s so you can pick me up whenever I call.”
“Be my personal chauffeur.”
Yeah, that sounded much more reasonable.
She really was a genius!
Hahahahaha!
Ning Anran looked at the car keys being handed to her, a sudden unease creeping in. She had never driven such a nice car before—what if she scratched it?
Even a single chip in the paint would cost more than she could ever afford, even if she sold herself.
Noticing Ning Anran’s hesitation, Gu Xia grabbed her wrist and pressed the keys into her palm.
“Don’t worry. If it gets damaged, I’ll just compensate my sister.”
Though her pockets were currently empty, Gu Xia still spoke with the confidence of someone rolling in cash. In truth, her monthly allowance wasn’t that small, but before her awakening, she had spent nearly all of it on random purchases.
Only that 100,000 yuan remained.
Hearing Gu Xia’s words, Ning Anran knew that if she refused any further, Gu Xia would lose her temper. So, she could only clutch the keys tightly.
Then, from her inner pocket, she pulled out the bank card Gu Xia had given her the other day and handed it back.
“I paid the tuition—20,000 yuan. There’s still 80,000 left here. You should keep it.”
Again, drawing a line between them.
Gu Xia sighed. The female lead truly was the female lead—this kind of iron will to treat money like dirt was something she herself lacked.
But right now, the female lead was so broke she probably only had a few dozen yuan left for meals. Yet she still had the nerve to worry about whether Gu Xia had spending money?
“I told you to keep it. This amount is nothing to me—just pocket change. I don’t even need it.”
“Besides, when we go shopping later, you can just swipe the card for me. I can’t be bothered to pull it out myself.”
The second part was something Gu Xia would absolutely do, given her personality.
Ning Anran only felt the bank card grow unbearably heavy in her hand. Taking it felt wrong, but refusing it felt just as bad.
Female Lead’s Favorability +5
Go, Host! This is exactly the right move—extend an olive branch when the female lead is at her most desperate and in need of money. Make her so grateful she cries! That way, her favorability will skyrocket, climbing higher and higher like sesame flowers on a stalk!
“Alright then, see you tonight.”
Puffed up by the system’s praise, Gu Xia practically swaggered as she turned away. She thought about all the supplements she had prepared for the female lead today—from health-boosting milk powder to daily feminine necessities. If she could think of it, she had packed it.
Gu Xia felt like the ultimate 24/7 devoted girlfriend.
“See you tonight, Second Miss.”
Ning Anran bid her farewell politely, carrying the bulging bag back to her dorm.
When her roommate saw Ning Anran walks in dressed in designer brands, she was stunned.
Especially when she noticed the overflowing bag of gifts, she was left speechless. She set down the champion she had been dominating with in the game.
“Anran, did you get a boyfriend?”
“Who gave you all this stuff?”
“And these brands aren’t cheap!”
The girl on the top bunk drowsily opened her eyes, her gossip instincts instantly ignited.
Ning Anran was the undisputed campus goddess of their school, so it was perfectly normal for her to have suitors. However, someone splurging this much on gifts was extremely rare even at their institution.
“Anran, be careful not to get scammed. These days, lots of people pass off knockoffs as the real deal. My aunt works at a brand boutique and knows all the tricks—want me to check it for you?”
Before she could finish speaking, her brow furrowed.
Even the girl playing games forgot about defending her tower and chimed in urgently, “Yeah, Xiaorong, take a look—is it real or fake? Getting duped would be awful.”
The roommate on the top bunk didn’t even bother putting on shoes, swinging her legs down in excitement.
She clicked her tongue in amazement. “This is legit—and it’s their winter limited edition! Worth an absolute fortune!”
