The Rebirth of the Socialite's Glory (GL) - Chapter 2
This was a standard princess room, with pink and red as the main colors, a beautifully designed aesthetic, and priceless furnishings. Even the seemingly ordinary carpet was worth over a million yuan. Its plush texture was incredibly soft; stepping on it felt like floating on clouds, making one instinctively lighten their steps, yet reluctant to move their feet away.
In the center of the princess room was a bed large enough for four adults to lie flat. A slight lump rose beneath the pink and white bedding, with only a small portion of a face exposed. The eyes were tightly closed, and the face was flushed with an abnormal, feverish color.
“Water… I need water…”
Feng Hua felt as if she had been placed in a large furnace. Flames incessantly scorched her skin and flesh; even flipping her body over couldn’t help her escape. So hot… Was she going to spontaneously combust?
Was this what death felt like?
In the haze, when a stream of cool liquid flowed past her dry lips and down her burning throat, Feng Hua seemed to gain a sliver of strength. She finally opened her eyes, which had felt as if they were glued shut with superglue.
“Miss, you’re finally awake.” The person guarding the bedside, upon seeing Feng Hua open her eyes, excitedly pulled Feng Hua into her arms.
Feng Hua’s consciousness grew clearer. In her daze, a familiar voice rang in her ears, making Feng Hua vaguely feel as if she were still dreaming.
“Miss?”
Seeing Feng Hua stare with unfocused eyes and not speak, Auntie Chen worriedly called out to Feng Hua by her ear. Still receiving no response, she anxiously turned her gaze toward the few other people in the room wearing white coats.
“Miss simply has a common fever. Her condition is now stable, and her temperature has begun to drop. She will be fine once she takes the medicine and gets plenty of rest,” the leader of the white coats said, adjusting her glasses.
Auntie Chen did not feel relieved upon hearing this and questioned, “Then what about Miss’s current state?”
The person in the white coat also looked at the somewhat abnormal Feng Hua, frowned, and observed intently but still couldn’t figure out what was wrong. Just as she walked to the bedside, preparing to examine Feng Hua again, Feng Hua spoke.
“Doctor Liu, I’m fine.” Feng Hua reluctantly accepted and sorted out the memories in her mind. Just as Liu Shuangchen’s hand was about to touch her body, she spoke up.
“Miss, how are you feeling?” Liu Shuangchen felt her worries subside when she saw the clarity return to Feng Hua’s eyes. This particular patient was the only one she had to take care of. If this Miss lost even a single hair, even if she wouldn’t have to atone with her death, she would certainly be fired.
This job had a high salary and was easy. In this era, many people were coveting such a good job. She couldn’t afford to be easily replaced by her employer.
Feng Hua’s rosy little face blossomed into a pure smile. With a voice that was hoarse but still clearly sounded like a child’s, she said, “I don’t feel so uncomfortable now. Thank you, Doctor Liu.”
“It’s good that Miss is fine. Be sure to tell me if you feel unwell,” Liu Shuangchen’s smile was gentle. If she hadn’t been mindful of their respective statuses, she would have liked to place her hand on Feng Hua’s head and stroke the little girl’s soft hair, or pinch her cute face, which resembled a Western angel.
“Mhm mhm.” Feng Hua nodded, still appearing well-behaved and polite.
After Liu Shuangchen and her assistants left, only Feng Hua and Auntie Chen remained in the room.
Auntie Chen stroked Feng Hua’s face, sighed, and earnestly advised, “Miss, your father loves you. He’s just too busy. The entire Feng family is supported by him. He has his own difficulties, so I hope you won’t blame him too much.”
After saying this, Auntie Chen expected Feng Hua to get teary-eyed with sadness like she used to, but this time, Feng Hua’s reaction was somewhat unexpected. Feng Hua simply lowered her head, then nodded. Although Auntie Chen couldn’t see the expression on her face, she didn’t seem to be crying.
Such a small child, this demeanor made one feel more pity than outright weeping would.
Auntie Chen’s eyes felt a little sore. All the further words of comfort turned into a sigh. She had raised Miss herself and had seen all of the Master’s coldness and Miss’s sorrow. Although she couldn’t openly criticize Feng Heng, she felt indignant for Miss in her heart. The Master blamed Miss for causing the death of Madam, but what crime had an innocent child committed? Miss was innocent!
Feng Hua listened to Auntie Chen’s familiar words of comfort, her heart completely calm.
A few minutes ago, she died, and then she came back to life. She had returned to being ten years old from twenty-six. It was now the summer vacation before she entered the third year of junior high school, and it was the tenth time her father had refused to come home to celebrate her birthday.
Her father probably considered it a great kindness not to have directly canceled her right to have a birthday celebration, after all, in his heart, this day would never be his daughter’s birthday; it was the anniversary of his beloved wife’s death.
Every year, Feng Hua would prepare a cake and wait for Feng Heng to return, but every time she finally managed to contact Feng Heng, the answer she received was a denial.
June sixth was her birthday, but she never had a joyful birthday celebration, nor did she have the chance to spend this children’s holiday with her father, holding hands, going to an amusement park like other children.
Feng Hua remembered that in her memory, that year, when she was ten, she was eager to share with her father the news that she had successfully skipped another grade to the third year of junior high. However, her father’s attitude poured a bucket of cold water on her, leaving her depressed and causing her to catch a fierce cold that led to a high fever.
This illness came on aggressively. Even with a first-rate family doctor like Liu Shuangchen looking after her, she still lay in bed for more than half a month.
Liu Shuangchen said it was a heart ailment, for which medicine was useless.
Having come back, Feng Hua felt nothing but astonishment at being reborn, no longer feeling any of the depression that had been caused by Feng Heng not returning to celebrate her birthday.
“I won’t blame Father.” Feng Hua looked at Auntie Chen, a weak smile blooming on her face. “Father works very hard. It’s Xiaohua who was disobedient; Xiaohua was too delicate. Auntie Chen, please don’t tell Father about this, okay? I don’t want Father to worry about me.”
Hearing Feng Hua’s words, Auntie Chen felt her young Miss was both pitiful and adorable. She thought, how could the Master be so heartless as to ignore and treat such a lovely daughter with such coldness?
Auntie Chen nodded, patted Feng Hua’s little head, and smiled kindly, “Miss is so well-behaved…”
The corner of Feng Hua’s mouth stretched into a sarcastic smile, which quickly vanished when Auntie Chen looked over. She said, “Auntie Chen, I want to drink the soup you make.”
Auntie Chen responded with a smile, “Alright, Miss, you haven’t eaten properly for several days because of your sickness. Auntie Chen will make you something delicious to nourish you!”
Feng Hua smiled obediently and nodded, deepening her smile to reveal two faint dimples on her cheeks, making her look even more well-behaved.
Watching Auntie Chen leave, Feng Hua immediately dropped the smile. She got directly out of bed. Still weak from her recent illness, her steps were a bit shaky, so Feng Hua had to lean on things as she slowly made her way to the dressing room door.
Pulling the door open, a large space was revealed inside, with a wide aisle in the middle. Clothes of all kinds hung on both sides. If the closet doors were opened, various designer bags and shoes could also be seen.
Feng Hua expertly walked to a large glass mirror and saw her current appearance reflected within.
Although she knew in her mind that she had returned sixteen years, only when she looked at herself in the mirror—with her small body, small face, and everything being small—did she truly realize that she was back to when she was ten years old.
“Rebirth?” Feng Hua murmured.
If one is reborn because of regret, a rebirth that aims to change something or make up for regrets is meaningful. However, Feng Hua felt she actually had no regrets.
Before this, she hadn’t ever fantasized about going back to the past to change anything.
But since she was back, she certainly wouldn’t follow the old trajectory and muddle through again, only to be struck dead by someone smashing a beer bottle over her head.
Feng Ya, since the heavens have allowed me to return, does this not mean that the heavens are giving me a chance to get rid of you?
Without Feng Ya, she would have remained the proud socialite, and even if Feng Heng disliked her, she would still inherit everything he owned. Then she wouldn’t have to endure the humiliation that this father and daughter inflicted upon her in her past life, would she?
Every man for himself; heaven and earth will destroy those who are not. Since she was already caught in this game, she had no choice but to strive for final victory, even if it meant resorting to any unscrupulous means.
After all, no one would save her. The Feng family father and daughter saw her as an enemy and would certainly not let her off. Since this was the case, why should she be kind? If you are unjust, then don’t blame me for being ruthless.
After her rebirth, Feng Hua’s weak body recovered quickly. Once she was completely sure of her recovery, Feng Hua, under Auntie Chen’s surprised gaze, grabbed a travel bag, called for a bodyguard, and prepared to leave.
Feng Hua sat in the front passenger seat and said to Auntie Chen, “I plan to go outside to relax this summer vacation. Auntie Chen, don’t worry. I’ll be fine with Uncle Wang accompanying me. Also, remember not to tell Father, okay? I’m just going to relax and will be back before school starts. Contact me by phone if anything happens.”
After speaking, Feng Hua turned to the bodyguard sitting in the driver’s seat and commanded, “Go.”
The bodyguard didn’t say anything unnecessary, nor did he look at the meaningful glance Auntie Chen gave him. Upon receiving Feng Hua’s order, he immediately started the car. The car was like an arrow leaving the bowstring, disappearing from Auntie Chen’s sight within a few seconds. Auntie Chen’s expression remained a bit grim as she stood in place.
Only after the car drove away from the apartment complex did Feng Hua smile and turn her head to look at the driving bodyguard, sincerely saying, “Thank you, Uncle Wang.”
Wang Mu saw his Miss looking at him with an adorable smile. The coldness on his face receded, replaced by a somewhat simple and honest look, and he said a little awkwardly, “I’m the bodyguard specially assigned to Miss. You are my only superior.”
Feng Hua’s expression remained unchanged upon hearing this; she was neither surprised nor delighted.
Of course, she knew he only listened to her. Even after she was no longer Miss Feng, the only person who remained by her side was this Wang Mu.
In this Feng family, even though Auntie Chen truly cared for her, her loyalty and obedience would always be to Feng Heng. Her every action, observed through Auntie Chen’s eyes, would be relayed to Feng Heng’s ears, leaving her with no privacy. This was why Feng Heng could safely discard her to fend for herself.
Money and status were not hers, either. The only thing she truly possessed was this bodyguard.
Now, she had one more thing. time.
