The Rebirth of the Socialite's Glory (GL) - Chapter 37
The grueling two-week competition was finally drawing to a close. For the last final match, the ten contestants were invited to a luxurious apartment under the Feng family’s name.
Upon arrival, Feng Hua had people lead the contestants on a tour of the villa. The architecture was magnificent, rich and translucent, breathtakingly beautiful. The private swimming pool, astonishingly large in area, and the private backyard, like a small park, were exquisitely unreal.
Most importantly, this was A City, where land was worth its weight in gold. They had difficulty imagining that there would be such a several-hundred-square-meter villa here. The furniture and intricate decor were equally astounding—for example, the chandelier in the main hall, the carpet on the floor, the calligraphy and paintings on the walls, all were frighteningly valuable objects.
The overwhelming luxury was intoxicating, and the news that they could stay there for free for three days was even more surprising.
In fact, the final test had already begun. Cameras were installed in various corners of the villa, recording the most authentic daily lives of the ten contestants, but the ten contestants were completely unaware of this.
After unpacking her luggage, Ning Ning rushed to Ye Qiu’s room. Ye Qiu was reading on the bed. Ning Ning lunged at her, but Ye Qiu dodged quickly, making Ning Ning miss.
“Ouch…” Falling directly onto the soft bed, Ning Ning groaned, rubbed against the bed for a while, and then reluctantly climbed up.
“Why did you bring books with you?” Ning Ning looked at the book in Ye Qiu’s hand in astonishment, then looked at the composed Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu sat down on the stool, placed the book on the desk, looked at Ning Ning, and said in a very serious tone, “Learning cannot stop. Only by constantly absorbing knowledge can we ensure the vitality of our lives.”
“That sounds very reasonable.” But it didn’t seem very useful. Ning Ning was an excellent student, no doubt, but she always felt she ought to be a slacker in front of Ye Qiu.
But nine years of compulsory education plus three years of demanding high school were finally over. Shouldn’t the welcomed freedom of university life be for relaxing? It was only the first year; it wouldn’t be too late to study hard in the second year!
“Did you come to see me for something?” Ye Qiu picked up her book again, her eyes clearly signaling: state your business quickly if you have one, or leave quickly if you don’t, and don’t disturb her.
Ning Ning quickly pulled a stool and sat opposite Ye Qiu, her face blossoming into a smile, “Yes, I have something!”
“Speak,” Ye Qiu put down her book again, assuming a listening posture.
Ning Ning sometimes felt that Ye Qiu truly resembled a noble child who had received an excellent education and refinement. Her movements always conveyed a natural, unpretentious elegance, and her etiquette seemed ingrained, possessing a demeanor that ordinary people lacked. Although Ye Qiu had clearly told her that she was just from an obscure little county in G Province, Ning Ning often had a misconception about Ye Qiu’s identity.
“I feel like I’m dreaming right now! My goal was to be an extra, but I unexpectedly made it into the top ten. And I’m staying in such a dreamy villa—it’s absolutely fantastic.” Ning Ning grabbed Ye Qiu’s arm, “Ye Qiu, pinch me. Am I dreaming?”
Ye Qiu pinched Ning Ning as requested. Ning Ning let out a pained howl, looked at Ye Qiu with teary eyes, and accused, “That hurt!”
“Mm, so you’re not dreaming,” Ye Qiu replied blandly.
“…” That hurt, boohoo qaq.
“The audition wasn’t too difficult. You have good looks; making it into the top ten isn’t surprising.”
“Did I get in by relying on my face?” Ning Ning touched her own face, feeling for the first time that her face was actually quite useful.
“Mm.” Ye Qiu pointed to the corner of the room, where a vintage dressing table was placed. Ning Ning’s reflection was clearly visible in the mirror.
Ning Ning looked from afar, and as she watched, she felt she did indeed have some appeal. After happily admiring herself for a while, she subconsciously looked at Ye Qiu in the mirror. Upon seeing her, she felt utterly disheartened.
There was no comparison, no harm done. She had just felt she had some appeal, but sitting next to Ye Qiu, why did she look more like Ye Qiu’s little maid?
Watching from the monitor, Huang Shan stroked his chin, looked at Feng Hua beside him, and asked, “Was our competition too simple?”
“Mm.” Feng Hua stared at Ye Qiu on the screen. She wondered if it was an illusion, but the current Ye Qiu’s charm and aura were increasingly overlapping with ‘Feng Ya’.
“You kept Ning Ning because she’s pretty?”
“Mm,” Feng Hua replied, “She’s actually the most suitable for the female lead. Didn’t you already have your eye on her? She’s not bad looking, but unlike Ye Qiu’s sharp beauty, her sunny temperament and lively personality are more suitable for the female lead of this drama. So, in fact, you really didn’t pay too much attention to her talent, but only valued her appearance.”
Huang Shan held his forehead, his face, which could overshadow the moon and shame the flowers, full of helplessness. After a long pause, he chuckled softly, “While that’s not entirely wrong.”
Feng Hua turned to glance at Huang Shan. Although Huang Shan wasn’t stingy with his smiles, every time she heard his clear and magnetic voice and saw his unique smile, it was still very pleasing to the eye.
If Huang Shan were an actor, perhaps he would have become popular much sooner.
“Your appearance is so good, why didn’t you consider becoming an actor?” Feng Hua asked.
“Compared to an actor, I prefer being a director who can control the overall situation,” Huang Shan said. “But even though I don’t act, I do take some photo collections of myself. Want to see?”
Feng Hua nodded. Huang Shan then took out his laptop, opened a folder that contained many sub-folders, each one a photo collection.
Feng Hua looked through Huang Shan’s photo collections with interest. Unconsciously, the two were sitting quite close, making it look as if Feng Hua was leaning into Huang Shan’s embrace.
Every photo in the collection was breathtakingly beautiful and mesmerizing. What was even more rare than the beauty was the creativity. The theme and style of each photo collection were extremely diverse and boldly magnificent, showcasing and uncovering different facets of Huang Shan’s beauty. Feng Hua thought, as expected, he didn’t disappoint, even better than she had imagined.
This was the classic example of someone who could clearly rely on their looks, but insisted on relying on talent.
When Wang Ze came to call Feng Hua, this was the scene he witnessed. He subconsciously glanced at Guan Xi next to him, thinking with surprise, Does Miss prefer Director Huang Shan over Guan Xi?
However, Director Huang Shan’s face, which was more delicate and clear than a man’s and more handsome than a woman’s, was truly hard to refuse. It wasn’t strange that Miss would like him.
“Miss, time is up.” Wang Ze waited for a while, and seeing the two had been close for so long, and the cold air around Guan Xi was getting heavier, he had to clear his throat and remind them.
Hearing this, Feng Hua looked at Huang Shan with regret, “There are still two photo collections I haven’t finished.”
Huang Shan smiled beautifully and gently, “I’ll send them to you later. You can save them and watch at your leisure.”
Huang Shan could tell that Feng Hua genuinely appreciated his photo collections. This was a form of recognition for him, and he was naturally very happy about it.
When leaving, Feng Hua saw Guan Xi and smiled and nodded at him. She knew that Uncle Wang must have deliberately brought Guan Xi along again. Feng Hua had a very good impression of Guan Xi, who had greatly helped her on the night of Shi Kexuan’s birthday.
What Feng Hua didn’t know was that Wang Ze’s hair was practically turning white from internal struggle. He felt that his Miss seemed to have some affection for Guan Xi, but Miss also seemed to be quite fond of Huang Shan. So, did Miss mean to take both? Uh, that’s fine abroad, but bigamy is not allowed in Z Country; it’s illegal and unacceptable!
If they really had to force a threesome, who should be the main partner? He thought Guan Xi was more suitable, while Huang Shan was better suited for being pampered and not constrained. But he didn’t know if Huang Shan would be willing. If he wasn’t, would Miss be sad and disappointed?
If Feng Hua knew that the serious-looking Uncle Wang was thinking such things, she probably wouldn’t be able to look at the two men directly again. Uncle Wang’s imagination was truly wild!
The dinner was held at a long dining table in the main hall. The table could seat more than twenty people and was laden with dozens of unique dishes. Beside each person stood a well-trained maid in a maid outfit. Everything was dreamlike, as if in a fantasy.
There was an empty seat at the head of the table and one on each side. Everyone easily guessed who those reserved seats were for.
Amidst everyone’s waiting, Feng Hua finally appeared. Dressed in a white silk gown, she exuded an elegant demeanor. When she walked in with a smile, everyone spontaneously stood up.
Feng Hua sat in the main seat, and Director Huang Shan, who always presented himself immaculately and was strikingly handsome with a recognizable beauty in public, sat on Feng Hua’s left hand.
“Everyone, please sit down.” Feng Hua smiled and waited for everyone to sit down before finally taking her seat. “Thank you all for your support. Tonight’s banquet is specially set for you. I hope these delicacies will make you comfortable.”
Feng Hua raised her glass. Led by Huang Shan, everyone clinked glasses. Amidst the shimmering of glasses, the atmosphere was harmonious.
After a grand opening speech, Feng Hua said nothing more. The contestants, who had expected various toasts and a lot of conversation, were made cautious by Feng Hua’s silence. For a moment, the only sounds were the chewing of food and the clinking of knives, forks, and chopsticks against the dishes.
Feng Hua lowered her head, concentrating on her food. When someone occasionally scrutinized her, she would generously smile back, not deliberately appearing distant, but still making people hesitant to approach her easily.
While everyone was focused on eating, Ye Qiu put down her knife and fork and gazed at Feng Hua from three meters away.
Feng Hua seemed to sense it, looked up, and looked back at Ye Qiu.
Ye Qiu stuck out her tongue and licked her lip, a provocative motion.
“Clang…”
Feng Hua, who had maintained excellent dining etiquette, momentarily lost her composure. Her hand loosened, causing her knife and fork to drop onto her plate.
