The Rebirth of the Socialite's Glory (GL) - Chapter 6
It didn’t matter if she lost anything else; she was still the Feng family heir, and her identity was her greatest pride, yet she had lost even her identity…
Feng Hua’s little scheme was directly exposed. Feng Heng announced Ye Qiu’s identity, Ye Qiu officially changed her name to Feng Ya, clarified the mudslinging Feng Hua had directed at her, and basked in glory.
And she, Feng Hua, was treated like a wisp of air that had never existed, overlooked by everyone.
Perhaps they weren’t unable to see her, but rather there was no need to see her. Feng Heng’s attitude was too clear; he openly showed disdain for Feng Hua, while his biological daughter, Feng Ya, was the true heir.
Abandoned and utterly worthless, Feng Hua was naturally to be shelved. No one would associate with Feng Hua at this point, fearing being sponged off by her or being misunderstood by Feng Ya and Feng Heng.
All of Feng Hua’s work and research projects were halted. Feng Heng gave her the house she had been living in before, wearing a self-righteous expression of having done his utmost.
Feng Ya, however, never aggressively treated Feng Hua. Even knowing Feng Hua had framed her and stolen what was rightfully hers, Feng Ya’s attitude toward Feng Hua remained very ambiguous.
Feng Ya not only gave a living allowance to Feng Hua, who had no concept of money, but also let Feng Hua live in her apartment, providing her with an endlessly swipable secondary card for her to squander freely. All of this gave Feng Hua the illusion that nothing had changed.
Until Feng Ya’s birthday party.
She was pressed onto Feng Ya, fiercely gripping Feng Ya’s neck and gritting her teeth: “I am not a pet!”
Feng Ya said, “But you are mine, something that belongs to me…”
Feng Ya said she was hers, something that belonged to her. So Feng Ya was simply treating her like a pet, right? Her superficial kindness to her was actually a form of humiliation, wasn’t it? Watching her being groomed, with her claws dulled and edges smoothed, did Feng Ya find it amusing? Wouldn’t it be more entertaining to completely strip her of her spirit and then just dump her?
And she only realized it now… If she hadn’t died later, she probably wouldn’t have escaped the fate of being raised into a pathetic dog dependent on Feng Ya for survival, only to be abandoned with a miserable end.
As expected of Ye Qiu, her methods of tormenting people were not brutal, yet they induced deeper despair.
This explained Feng Ya’s behavior of supporting her recently.
Ye Qiu… Feng Ya…
Just as Feng Hua was immersed in her own thoughts, Feng Ya’s scream suddenly reached her ears, carrying a sense of shock and fear that surprised Feng Hua.
“Stop it!”
As if in slow motion, Feng Hua saw Feng Ya’s expression clearly. The look of sheer terror on her face did not make Feng Hua feel satisfied; instead, a complex emotion arose.
It was laughable, but this was the first time Feng Hua had seen someone so concerned for her… not even her “only relative,” Feng Heng, was. And the concern of people like Auntie Chen was not the kind she longed for.
Feng Hua felt her soul beginning to detach from the container of her body, gradually floating into the air. She could now look down and see the appearance of herself and Feng Ya. This feeling was quite strange.
She finally understood why Feng Ya had such an expression. Behind her, a drunkard stood, who suddenly picked up a wine bottle in his hand and smashed it onto her head. At that moment, her head was no different from a watermelon; it instantly shattered upon impact. Bl00d sprayed out, splashing everywhere, even hitting Feng Ya’s face. She was literally sprayed with bl00d.
Feng Hua wanted to laugh, but her mouth remained stiff.
Next, Feng Hua saw a scene she should have been unable to see. She was dead, but she saw her appearance after death. This feeling was truly subtly incredible.
Even though she was sprayed with bl00d, Feng Ya didn’t push her away. Instead, she carefully held Feng Hua’s corpse in her arms, gently wiping her face with her sleeve. The tender expression made the observing Feng Hua confused.
She was dead; what was the point of pretending anymore?
Feng Ya was acting crazy, but thankfully there were some clear-headed people. Someone reminded Feng Ya, “Miss Feng, shouldn’t we call an ambulance to take Feng Hua to the hospital? Maybe she can still be saved.”
Feng Ya hoarsely said, “Call!”
The speaker was startled by Feng Ya’s cold voice. She had interacted with Feng Ya before and remembered her as a very pleasant person, though a bit aloof. She never expected to see such a fierce side of her.
When the emergency call was made, the hospital, upon learning the patient’s identity, didn’t dare to delay, swiftly arriving at the scene to take the person away. If the accompanying doctor hadn’t repeatedly stressed that holding the patient like that was not good, Feng Ya probably would have held onto Feng Hua without letting go.
Feng Hua’s soul followed the ambulance all the way to the hospital. She floated into the ward and felt strange when she saw that she still had an electrocardiogram reaction. Puzzled, Feng Hua leaned in for a closer look and confirmed that it was indeed her body, but why wasn’t she dead yet?
She felt something was wrong, but whenever she tried to think deeply, she found her mind completely blank.
Feng Hua floated out again and saw Feng Ya sitting on a chair outside the door. Feng Ya had a bizarre smile on her face, which made Feng Hua very displeased. ‘She’ was inside, with her life hanging in the balance, yet this person could still smile outside the ward!
Sure enough, all her kindness to me was a facade. Luckily, she had never taken it seriously, so she didn’t feel too bad now, just a little angry.
Anyone who encountered someone who could smile so brightly during their life-and-death struggle would be annoyed.
An hour later, the doctor came out to announce the failure of the resuscitation and Feng Hua’s death, asking her family member to come out and sign the papers.
‘She’ was dead after all. It made sense; her head was cracked open. Presumably, Feng Ya knew from the start that Feng Hua was sure to die, but she still went through the motions of sending her to the hospital.
Feng Ya dismissed everyone, including the doctor. In the empty and quiet ward, only a corpse and Feng Ya remained.
Feng Hua thought Feng Ya would say a few “heartfelt words” to mock her after her death, perhaps laughing triumphantly, but to her surprise, before Feng Ya could utter a single word, tears flowed down her face. She was crying while lying on her corpse.
Crocodile tears! There are no outsiders here, and I’m dead with no possibility of coming back. Yet she can still pretend at this moment. How can this person be such a good actress? Feng Hua turned her head slightly, refusing to look at Feng Ya’s crying face.
“I waited so long… and in the end, I still lost. I still couldn’t hold onto you…”
Feng Ya’s deep voice was choked with sobs. For a moment, Feng Hua almost believed that Feng Ya truly had deep feelings for her.
But how could that be?
Feng Ya continued, “If you die, what will I do?”
Feng Hua was so startled by Feng Ya’s tender words that her heart skipped a beat. Well, she actually didn’t have a heartbeat, so the skipped beat must have been an illusion.
“I will avenge you.”
What use was revenge? She was already dead. However, Feng Hua’s hatred for Feng Ya lessened a little. She had actually figured out that her death, whether an accident or a premeditated murder, had nothing to do with Feng Ya.
She didn’t know if Feng Ya ultimately avenged her because the next moment, she woke up from the dream, leaving that place that might or might not have been a dream.
Just before waking up, she saw herself on the bed suddenly open her eyes. Those eyes were so familiar—she saw them every time she looked in the mirror—but at this moment, they were so… terrifying. They were clearly her eyes, yet she felt like she was looking into Feng Ya’s eyes. How bizarre and dreadful was that? This caused Feng Hua to have a palpitation and immediately wake up.
Feng Hua opened her eyes and looked at the white ceiling, feeling disoriented. With a casual turn of her head, a pair of concerned eyes entered her vision. These eyes were the same as the pair in her dream.
It was only because she felt weak and powerless all over that Feng Hua didn’t abruptly push the person away.
“Xiaohua, you’re awake? I saw you seemed to be having a nightmare just now. I heard that you shouldn’t disturb someone having a nightmare, or it might cause a nervous breakdown, so I didn’t wake you,” Ye Qiu leaned half-sitting on the bed, looking at Feng Hua with a serious expression.
Feng Hua still felt a palpitation. The events in the dream had not been forgotten as usual upon waking; instead, they were exceptionally clear. Consequently, looking into Ye Qiu’s eyes now, her mood was particularly complicated.
“Xiaohua? Xiaohua?” Seeing Feng Hua stare at her blankly with a pair of confused eyes, Ye Qiu worriedly nudged Feng Hua.
Feng Hua used her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead, only to find her face dry. Looking closer, she saw a towel in Ye Qiu’s hand, and next to it was a basin filled with warm water.
“I’m fine. I just had a nightmare.”
When she first woke up, she had no strength, but after lying there for a while, her strength seemed to suddenly return.
“It’s good that you’re fine.” Ye Qiu touched Feng Hua’s forehead and said with a smile that curved her eyes, “Xiaohua, are you hungry? What do you want to eat? I’ll make it for you!”
Ye Qiu was still a bit unaccustomed to the strange place, so she had gotten up quite early. She had also quickly checked out the room and found that it not only had a bathroom but also a kitchen. This must be what they call a suite, right? It must also be very expensive.
Ye Qiu wanted to save Feng Hua some money, but she couldn’t bring herself to suggest that Feng Hua stay at her home. She felt that a delicate and exquisite person like Feng Hua should live in the best place, be cherished, and be given the very best.
Feng Hua looked at Ye Qiu doubtfully, then nodded at the other’s confident gaze. “Anything.”
Half an hour later, a table full of breakfast appeared before her.
Eating the preserved egg and lean meat congee Ye Qiu made, the rich aroma permeated her mouth. It wasn’t as refined as what she used to eat, but it wasn’t bad. In fact, the taste had a strangely lingering charm. Although she didn’t have much appetite, she ate the entire bowl of congee along with the appetizing side dishes.
After drinking half a cup of the fruit juice Ye Qiu placed in front of her, Feng Hua looked at Ye Qiu. “I can’t drink any more.”
Ye Qiu glanced at the half-empty cup of juice and said, “I’ll help you drink it.”
Before Feng Hua could stop her, Ye Qiu directly took the cup, and coincidentally, her lips touched the exact spot where Feng Hua had just drunk from. She tilted her head back and finished the juice in one gulp.
Ye Qiu said, “It’s very delicious.”
Feng Hua turned her head away with a faint look of disdain. This idiot who looks so happy even just drinking juice.
Forget it, this cup of juice will be the reward I bestow upon her for making breakfast!
