The Reborn Legitimate Daughter is Frivolous - Chapter 15
She couldn’t help but worry in her heart, would this eldest lady be as bad-tempered and difficult as Shui Xinting?
Just now, she’d heard that Murong Qing planned to “rectify” her garden, but what did that mean? Would she punish people harshly? They’d heard that many young ladies liked to beat or torment their servants, with terrible tempers to match.
Thinking of this, the two maidservants couldn’t help trembling, fear creeping into their hearts.
Murong Qing didn’t know what they were thinking. She simply asked, “What are your names?”
“The servant is Qinglian.”
“The servant is Qingbi.”
Murong Qing nodded. “Both names are nice. I won’t change them.” After a pause, she added, “I already have many servants, but since you two were sent by Second Aunt, I’ll keep you with me for now.”
Qinglian and Qingbi were already nervous, but hearing that made them even more uneasy. They quickly said, “Please don’t say that, my lady. We’re just humble servants — we don’t deserve your attention.”
Seeing the two of them shaking, Murong Qing smiled knowingly. She must have scared them earlier when speaking to Shui Xinting. She hadn’t meant to make them so nervous — it was just a joke.
Her grudge with Shui Xinting would never affect the innocent people around her. As long as they didn’t betray her, she wouldn’t make trouble for them.
Still, these two were sent by Shui Xinting, clearly meant to spy on her. But now that their deeds of sale were going to fall into Murong Qing’s hands, Shui Xinting’s little plan would fail.
Even so, Murong Qing intended to keep them close. From observing them just now, she could tell they were honest girls. Since Shui Xinting had only recently bought them, she probably hadn’t had time to train or manipulate them much. As long as Murong Qing held their deeds of sale, they wouldn’t dare disobey her.
A faint, mocking smile curved her lips. In time, she would make these two completely loyal to her — both to spite Shui Xinting and to gain two trustworthy helpers of her own.
“Alright, you can both get up,” Murong Qing said gently. “I was only joking. I didn’t mean to scare you.”
The two maids hurriedly stood, still flustered. When they looked up, they saw Murong Qing’s faint smile and couldn’t help but stare — the eldest lady was truly beautiful.
Her voice was soft and calm. They’d never expected a master to speak so kindly, let alone explain herself just to ease their fear.
For a moment, they didn’t even know how to feel half anxious, half touched.
Looking at their simple, honest faces, Murong Qing said, “I happen to need two capable maids by my side. From now on, you two will stay with me.”
The position of a personal maid beside the eldest lady was an enviable one. Such girls earned more money, had lighter duties, and could even give orders to other servants. They held real authority — one person above many.
When they first came to Qingyuan, they thought Murong Qing would assign them to rough work, the lowest rank of servants in the household.
Now, hearing her words, they were overjoyed. Their happiness showed on their faces as they quickly knelt again and said, “Thank you, my lady, for this great kindness.”
Murong Qing nodded. “Serve me well, and I’ll treat you well. But if you ever have other thoughts…”
She left the rest unsaid. Everyone knew the rule — a servant cannot serve two masters. Once branded as disloyal, no household would ever hire them again.
Their deeds of sale would soon belong to Murong Qing anyway, so Qinglian and Qingbi had no reason to think otherwise. In truth, they had disliked doing dirty work for Shui Xinting, and now they were glad to serve Murong Qing wholeheartedly.
“Don’t worry, my lady,” they said together. “We belong to you in life and in death.”
Murong Qing nodded with satisfaction. Their words might have been dramatic, but she could feel their sincerity and that was enough.
Shui Xinting was, at least, efficient. Within half an hour, she sent someone to deliver the deeds of sale. Murong Qing carefully checked the papers to confirm the names, then dismissed the servant politely, even asking him to thank Shui Xinting on her behalf.
She could imagine how furious Shui Xinting must be right now.
Those two maids she’d bought for her own use had not only failed to serve her purpose but had ended up loyal to Murong Qing instead.
Murong Qing smiled faintly. Anything that made Shui Xinting unhappy brought her satisfaction.
But the happiest ones now were Qinglian and Qingbi. Seeing their deeds of sale safely in Murong Qing’s hands, they finally felt at ease.
The two girls exchanged a glance, then knelt again. “Thank you, my lady.”
Murong Qing understood their gratitude without needing an explanation. She simply smiled and said nothing, letting the moment speak for itself. That small gesture would not only spare them embarrassment but also deepen their loyalty to her.
