The Reborn Legitimate Daughter is Frivolous - Chapter 27:
As soon as Qingbi entered Nanyuan, she saw Liuli carefully tending to her wounds.
Seeing how clumsy Liuli was, Qingbi smiled and walked over. “Let me help you,” she said warmly.
“Thank you,” Liuli murmured, pressing her lips together.
Qingbi talked endlessly while she worked. Even when Liuli seemed to lose patience, Qingbi kept chattering on.
Though Qingbi and Qinglian had only served Murong Qing for a few days, they were already loyal—not because Murong Qing promised them rewards, but because she was genuinely kind.
“I can’t even describe how good the young lady is,” Qingbi said. “Even though I haven’t been with her long, I know that if it weren’t for her generosity, Qinglian and I would’ve been sold by now.”
Liuli turned to look at Qingbi, curious to hear more. Since Murong Qing was now her master, she wanted to understand her better. Knowing one’s master well was always a good thing.
Although it had only been half a day, Qingbi had praised Murong Qing nonstop. From the time they returned to the General’s Mansion until now, Murong Qing hadn’t done anything cruel. Liuli’s heart began to soften.
Maybe Murong Qing really was kind. What she said at Ya Pozi’s place before—maybe that was just an act.
“Qinglian and I were bought by the second aunt,” Qingbi continued, sighing. “She sent us to the young lady, but she wanted us to spy on her—watch her every move and report back.”
“Even if we didn’t want to, we couldn’t refuse,” Qingbi said helplessly. “We’re slaves, and she held our deeds of sale. We didn’t dare disobey.”
Liuli stayed silent, listening carefully. She understood that kind of fear all too well. For people like them, whoever held the deed of sale controlled their lives. To resist meant death.
A bitter smile tugged at Qingbi’s lips. “No slave doesn’t want to serve a good master. But no matter how hard we worked, the second aunt would never really value us. If the young lady ever caught us spying, it would be us who’d die—not them.”
She paused, then said softly, “Just when Qinglian and I thought our lives were over, the young lady asked the second aunt for our deeds of sale. We were so happy—but then we started to get scared. We thought she must be a difficult master to serve.”
Liuli frowned slightly, confused. “Why were you afraid? Didn’t you say she was kind?”
Qingbi smiled knowingly. “You’ll understand soon. Come with me.” She pulled Liuli toward the door and whispered, “The second aunt is visiting the young lady right now. The young lady told me not to let you out, but I can sneak you to the back door. You can listen for yourself.”
Liuli hesitated, but curiosity won. She quietly followed Qingbi out.
Though Qingbi was talkative, she wasn’t reckless. She knew when to keep silent—but she didn’t want Liuli to misunderstand Murong Qing.
As they walked, Qingbi continued, “We thought the young lady would be strict, but we were wrong. She smiled at us so gently and even made us her first-class maids! Can you imagine that? Two girls like us?”
Liuli’s eyes widened. She knew how rare that kind of promotion was.
Qingbi also mentioned the tension between Murong Qing and the second aunt but didn’t go into detail—she knew better than to pry into her master’s affairs.
Soon, the two reached the back of the main courtyard and hid behind a screen. A moment later, Qinglian came out with tea. She spotted them but said nothing—she only gave Qingbi a warning look before leaving quietly.
Qinglian didn’t like Liuli much, but since Murong Qing had personally chosen to buy her back, she said nothing. If Qingbi wanted to talk to Liuli, that was fine.
Liuli listened intently to the conversation between Murong Qing and Shui Xinting. The more she heard, the more shocked she became.
She had thought Murong Qing was just a delicate young lady—but her sharp words and calm control surprised her.
Though Liuli had little experience, she had learned enough about people’s hearts from Ya Pozi to recognize cunning and courage when she saw them. How could a sheltered girl understand such things?
She couldn’t figure it out, but her prejudice against Murong Qing faded quietly.
When Murong Qing finally returned to her room to rest with Qinglian’s help, Liuli remained dazed.
“Liuli, Liuli,” Qingbi called softly. Liuli blinked, finally coming back to her senses. “Come on, let’s go.”
Liuli nodded and walked back to Nanyuan beside her.
Seeing her lost in thought, Qingbi smiled proudly. “So, has your opinion of the young lady changed?”
Liuli didn’t want to admit it—but it had.
She looked at Qingbi and gave a small “mm” in response, saying no more.
