The Reborn Scummy A and the Sickly O Got Together (GL, ABO) - Chapter 4
In return, Luo Mingyue always tried her best to make her younger sister happy. Whenever Lu Jia shed tears, Luo Mingyue would swear to indulge her in everything.
This was the little sister she cherished most, the family she had chosen. Luo Mingyue stepped forward, reaching out to wipe away Lu Jia’s tears.
She murmured softly, “Jiajia, your sister can’t take care of you anymore, but I’ve already left half of my estate to you in my will. In the future find a dependable alpha or beta.”
Lu Jia took the handkerchief from Lawyer Feng, casually wiping her eyes before speaking. “When Luo Mingyue was alive, she did everything she could to stand out in the Lu family. But she was so stupid it was laughable. Lawyer Feng, do you know what kind of people I despise the most?”
Luo Mingyue froze on the spot.
Lawyer Feng sighed. “Miss Lu, at the very least, Director Luo was sincere toward you. You should know that Madam Lu, Luo Mingyue’s mother only received half of the inheritance.”
Lu Jia let out a light laugh. “The kind of person I hate the most is exactly like Luo Mingyue someone who can’t recognize their own place. Watching her scramble for attention in the Lu family since childhood, I always found her hypocritical and disgusting.”
“And what’s with this act of kindness now?” Lu Jia crossed her arms.
Luo Mingyue stared at the Lu Jia she remembered as always being delicate and fragile. Despite being a head shorter than Lawyer Feng, she now carried herself with an air of condescension.
Lu Jia said coldly, “Wasn’t it you who suggested framing Luo Mingyue and pinning the sexual harassment charge on her? Why are you suddenly grieving for her now?”
Lawyer Feng shook his head. “As you said, death extinguishes all grievances. Whatever happened in life is now in the past. I just don’t understand at least when it came to you, Director Luo gave her whole heart.”
“She was an alpha,” Lu Jia said, her gaze falling on the white-shrouded corpse. “Why should I be grateful to her? Who knows what filthy intentions she had?”
Lawyer Feng suddenly scoffed. “Director Luo’s looks certainly weren’t beneath you.”
Disgusted, Lu Jia turned to leave. “Enough. The show’s over. No need for any more nonsense. Once the inheritance is transferred, I’ll wire the agreed amount to your Swiss account.”
Lawyer Feng followed Lu Jia out of the morgue. His voice was so soft, yet Luo Mingyue heard every word clearly, this lawyer she had trusted so deeply in life chuckled and whispered, “Eight million. Please ensure it arrives on time.”
Luo Mingyue didn’t follow them. When she reached the morgue’s exit, it was as if she hit an invisible barrier.
But the truth had left her dazed. She walked back to her own corpse, thinking she ought to break down in tears.
All she had ever wanted in life was the warmth of family. Yet in the end, it was those very bonds that had hurt her the most.
The people she had poured her heart into treated her like garbage, like an enemy. Every ounce of sincerity she had given had been trampled underfoot.
How could I have been so pathetic?
Luo Mingyue couldn’t cry. She didn’t even feel sorrow, just a sudden, wild urge to laugh hysterically, her hands covering her face.
Only in death did she realize how absurd and ridiculous her life had been. Clenching her teeth, endless waves of madness surged within her.
Family? Mother, grandmother, sisters.
If she could start over, she would be ruthless, unrestrained, and unapologetic. She would make every last one of them, those who looked down on her, ignored her, framed her pay the price!
The voice of Feng Baiming echoed through the empty morgue, interrupting Luo Mingyue’s thoughts.
The woman spoke in a cool, detached tone into her phone: “I’ve sent the video over. See how we can steer public opinion with it. Also, can this video be used to charge Lu Jia and Feng Zhuoran with conspiracy to commit murder? Have Lawyer Chen review the footage and draft the indictment as soon as possible. Why can’t I get involved? Can’t I just be naturally inclined toward justice?”
Luo Mingyue understood what Feng Baiming intended to do. Only then did she gradually regain a sliver of clarity. Feng Baiming hung up the phone and knelt on one knee beside the bed where the body lay.
Luo Mingyue also crouched down beside Feng Baiming and said sheepishly, “I’m sorry for the trouble, Miss Feng.”
Watching as Feng Baiming reached out to lift the white cloth and took hold of her already cold hand, Luo Mingyue whispered, “Don’t look, it’s so ugly.”
Yet, miraculously, Luo Mingyue now a mere spirit, could feel the warmth of human body temperature through the right hand Feng Baiming was holding.
Feng Baiming spoke softly, as if afraid to disturb her sleep, and asked carefully, “Luo Mingyue, are you cold?”
Rubbing her left hand over her right, Luo Mingyue studied Feng Baiming’s profile and smiled. “Miss Feng, thank you. The dead don’t feel cold, but I think I can feel you holding my hand. It’s very warm.”
Feng Baiming then asked, “Miss Luo, do you have any last wishes?”
Luo Mingyue pondered deeply. If there was a next life, she thought, she wouldn’t choose to be human again. Her experience in this life had been terrible perhaps it would be better to come back as a silly pet dog or cat.
With a walnut-sized brain, the biggest concerns each day would be eating and playing. That sounded far better than being human.
No human scheming, no unrequited desires, and none of the misjudgments and lovelessness that had plagued her in this life.
She was about to answer: “Just take revenge on Lu Jia and Lawyer Feng for me, and I’ll have no regrets.”
But then a single, silent tear rolled down Feng Baiming’s cheek, landing on the back of Luo Mingyue’s right hand.
Though she was now a spirit, the tear felt scalding. She instinctively withdrew her hand for a moment before reaching out again, wanting to wipe away the tear from Feng Baiming’s eye.
Yet she could touch nothing. For the first time, she wished she were still alive, if only to gently dry Miss Feng’s tears.
Fortunately, Feng Baiming lived up to her public reputation composed, rational, and emotionally restrained. She shed only two tears.
Luo Mingyue smiled. “That’s more like it. Crying for me is the least worthwhile thing in the world.”
But when she met those tearless yet profoundly sorrowful eyes, she reached out and grasped the fingertips that had once hesitated to touch her just as she had years ago.
“Miss Feng,” Luo Mingyue said earnestly, “I have only one wish left. I hope that in this lifetime, someone will love you sincerely, cherish you, and treat you as the treasure of their life.”
Luo Mingyue stepped forward, wanting to embrace the omega she had admired all her life. But drowsiness and darkness surged over her like a tide.
She called out softly, “Miss Feng.”, a sigh and a murmur of longing between her lips.
“May your life be peaceful and carefree, your health unwavering, your meals plentiful, and your descendants gathered around you a century hence.”
Then this life faded into eternal slumber, as Luo Mingyue completely lost consciousness.
