The Reincarnated Young Lady Will Finally Grasp Happiness This Time! - Episode 12
“Lia! A messenger from the royal palace is here!”
When my father called me, I quickly ran to the entrance hall. There, a royal messenger was waiting. As I stood in front of him, he unrolled a scroll and announced:
“Lady Lia Notes, you have passed the recent exam. In one week, you must report to Captain Neil Karsal of the First Royal Mage Division. That is all.”
Hearing the messenger’s words, excitement welled up inside me.
“Father! Mother! Brother! I did it! I passed!”
Overjoyed, I hugged Maisie tightly.
Now, I could work in the royal palace, just like my father and brother. My brother would officially start working there next year as Prince Ryan’s aide.
The thought of all three of us working at the palace together made me so happy.
That day, my family celebrated with a grand feast, and I felt like the happiest person in the world.
From the next day until I left for the palace, I trained my magic as hard as I could. I wanted to improve, even just a little!
On the day I was to report to Captain Karsal, my mother gave me a bold and encouraging send-off. Then, my father, brother, and I boarded the carriage together.
When we arrived at the palace, my father, worried about me, went off to his work. My brother, on the other hand, planned to escort me to Captain Karsal and then head to Prince Ryan’s office.
We entered the mage tower, approached the receptionist, and informed them that we had come to see Captain Karsal of the First Mage Division.
“Lady Lia Notes, please wait a moment.”
“Brother, thank you for bringing me here. I’ll be fine from here on.”
“I see. If anything happens, call me or Father immediately.”
“Yes, I will.”
Though my brother looked concerned, he soon left for Prince Ryan’s office. After a while, the receptionist returned and guided me inside.
The royal mages are divided into two categories: palace mages and general mages. General mages are those who pass the standard mage exams based on their magic power and skills.
Palace mages, however, are those with exceptionally high magic power, unique magical abilities, or outstanding knowledge and skills recognized by others.
I would, of course, start as a general mage. I might have enough magic power and a special magic attribute, but my skills and knowledge were still lacking.
Many general mages are commoners. However, due to the high magic power required, the palace mages are mostly nobles.
The receptionist led me to Captain Karsal’s office. Surprisingly, there were no enchantments or magical illusions in the room. Instead, it was just a normal office—except for the towering piles of paperwork everywhere.
…Piles and piles of paperwork.
So much that there was hardly any space to step.
“Captain, I have brought Lady Lia Notes.”
I had arrived full of excitement for my bright future, but suddenly, I started feeling uneasy—about many things.
“Please, have a seat.”
The captain’s voice came from behind yet another mountain of documents on his desk.
There?
Wait… is this supposed to be a sofa?
The receptionist mage sighed, looking exasperated.
Carefully, I moved some papers and managed to sit down. Meanwhile, the receptionist cleared off enough papers from the captain’s desk so that his face was finally visible.
Captain Karsal had been reading a report, which he kept in hand as he began to speak.
“Lia, I’ve been expecting you. A fourteen-year-old light mage—you were even considered for a position as a knight division’s healer, but I fought to have you here.
Your light magic is already at the level of a palace mage, but your water magic is still average for your age. For now, you will work as my assistant and start as a palace mage apprentice. Starting tomorrow, this will be your workplace. Any questions?”
“Captain Karsal, what will be my first task? Also, what about my academy studies?”
With everything happening so fast, I had too many worries.
“I’ve arranged for you to stay enrolled by submitting assignments. When you attend, you must wear your palace mage robe. As for your first task… you’ll be organizing these documents. Once that’s done, we’ll see what comes next. Your father and brother are excellent civil officials, and you are talented as well. You’ll manage.”
…What?
This entire mountain of documents!?
What kind of irresponsible person is he!?
Is this workplace really okay!?
I glanced around, locking eyes with the receptionist mage. He simply gave me a small nod, as if to say, don’t ask.
I sighed and began sorting the paperwork. At first, I wasn’t sure where to start, but I decided to divide them into normal, low-priority, and urgent documents.
I had expected to go home right after my introduction, but instead…
Three hours later, there was a knock on the door.
“Enter,” Captain Karsal called.
The door opened, revealing my brother and Prince Alan.
I quickly stood and bowed to Prince Alan.
“Continue,” he said.
I resumed sorting the papers while Prince Alan spoke to Captain Karsal.
“Neil, how is the development in the Siwell region progressing?”
No matter how much I organized, the piles of paperwork barely seemed to shrink. Three hours of work had hardly made a difference.
And I was still a beginner at this. Silently, I kept sorting, occasionally glancing at my brother.
“Neil, I’m taking Lady Lia with me. She will go home for today. I’ll leave Dirk in her place—he’ll have these documents sorted in no time.
You know him—he’s the civil official I pried away from Ryan. Not only is he Lia’s brother, but he’s skilled enough to be a palace mage. You should be grateful.”
I wasn’t sure what had happened, but Prince Alan was praising my brother quite a lot.
As his sister, I felt proud.
Captain Karsal easily agreed to the exchange.
“See you tomorrow, Ria.”
“Thank you, Captain Karsal. I’ll be here tomorrow.”
After a polite bow, I left the mage tower with Prince Alan.
