The day after we talked about our future.
Trying to act like proper students, we went to school.
We met up with each other on the way and took some pictures together.
“Did you level up your appearance?”
“Right after I woke up this morning. Do I look any different?”
Hmm? Hard to say. You’re still as cute as ever.
“It’d actually be a problem if you changed too drastically.”
“True. Let’s stick to increasing it by 1 point at a time for now.”
We’re both already pretty satisfied with our looks.
If we can get even better-looking, then that’s just a bonus.
“Heyyy, good morning~”
“Morning~”
I’m already used to junior high life.
By now, I can recognize most classmates’ faces and match them with their names.
“Did you watch Friday’s M-Sta?”
“Yeah, I did! EXIL○ was on, right?”
I’ve got the hang of these conversations too.
If you catch the main points, you can just throw in a few comments and you’ll fit in.
I’m still lacking in knowledge, but time will take care of that.
As we were enjoying this school life, our homeroom teacher came in for HR.
He announced that tests were one week away.
This will be my first test since the timeline reset. I’ve got to focus.
“Hey, Keita. I really think we should invest the rest of our money into academics.”
“Why? Isn’t 50 good enough? I can keep up just fine.”
After school. We were studying together at my place.
Since boosting my academics yesterday, I read through all of the first- and second-year junior high textbooks after getting home.
My comprehension, application, and memory seem to have improved too—
memorization problems are a breeze. Reading textbooks has never been this fun.
Mom saw me grinning while reading and gave me a weird look, though.
This time, I think I might be able to score over 80 on every subject. I’m genuinely excited.
“Aren’t we aiming to become streamers? Wouldn’t it be nice to brag about our education?”
“I do. I really do.”
What an irresistible idea.
Casually flexing our academic background to viewers… I want to smugly show off.
“It’s not like I actually want to study. But thanks to you, we can afford the tuition, right?
In that case, we should invest in academics and get into a good high school and college—it’ll open a lot of doors.”
“Exactly. Couldn’t agree more. Let’s invest right now.
Didn’t the school say we’ll start talking about future plans soon?”
“Let’s aim for the best public high school in Chiba. Private schools are too expensive…”
“We still need to keep our money situation under wraps, huh.”
We’ll need to pretend we bought a computer with part-time job money once we enter high school.
Then we can “start trading stocks.”
And with the computer, we can start streaming too.
If we earn some income from that as well, it’ll be perfect.
We need to achieve results during those three years to silence Mom and make her quit her job.
Or at least ease her burden. I’m not letting her work herself to death.
“Then from there, we can aim for Tokyo University.
Even if you’re an idiot, graduating from there makes people think you’re amazing.”
“Todai, huh. I wonder how smart you have to be to get in.”
“No clue. We’ll just have to keep investing until we’re confident we can.”
“Alright. Let’s put all our remaining money into academics.
We’re going to the horse races again this weekend anyway.”
We opened our status boards and started tapping away at our Academics stat.
Leaving just enough funds to boost our appearance…
We spent ¥6.2 million to raise Academics to 62.
Our remaining funds dropped sharply to ¥3.3 million.
We need to save ¥3 million to increase appearance this Saturday,
so that leaves us with only ¥300,000.
By the way, for all the money we used—
We got receipts. At some point, they just appeared in our wallets.
Gotta love supernatural phenomena.
We don’t need them now since we’re technically criminals committing tax evasion,
but in the future when we start a company, they might come in handy.
We could write it off as business expenses.
“I wonder how smart 62 actually makes us.
Probably smarter than the global average, though.”
“We’ll keep investing until we’re sure we can get into Todai.”
After that, our studying went incredibly well.
Eighty points is now a piece of cake.
Ninety-plus is doable, and for subjects I’m good at, even perfect scores aren’t out of reach.
I wonder if Mom will be happy.
It’s kind of cheating, but we’re paying for it, so I hope she can forgive us.
Then came the weekend.
We arrived at Tokyo Racecourse.
A perfect break from test prep—what a wonderful holiday.
“This time, I bought more mature clothes, so our disguises are better than last time.
Now we just have to not get carried away.”
We’re planning to hide our clothes and betting money in a station locker.
You never know when Mom might find out.
This week it’s the Oaks.
We already know the trifecta result.
It’ll probably only pay out about ¥2,000, though.
“It’s funny how I can still remember these old races.”
Buena Visto is famous, sure.
But I even remembered the second- and third-place horses this time.
This time, we’re going to learn from last week’s mistakes and not get cocky.
We’re planning to limit our winnings to around ¥10 million.
Split between the two of us, that’s ¥5 million each.
If we keep earning that every weekend, that’s insane.
We’re talking ¥5 million a week.
That’s a monthly income of about ¥20 million.
That’s what I used to make in a year before I reset.
Now I’m earning that as a middle schooler.
This has to be pretty insane, right?
Not that I plan to stop.
“Still, it’s kinda sad I can’t enjoy horse racing purely for the fun of it.
But hey, I shouldn’t complain when I’m making money.”
If I can use this money to save Mom, then it’s all worth it.
I’ll make sure she lives a long life.
