- Episode 12 - Father's Assault (Part 2)
“Don’t lie!”
You don’t believe me… Well, you’ve only ever seen my sister as the Saint. But she’s just a fake, empowered by me.
“Baron Kotokoris, please cease your insults toward the Saint. If you continue, as the Saint’s personal magic knight, I will have no choice but to punish you.”
“Ugh!”
Sir Rein is the strongest magic knight in the entire Finable Empire. My father, who possesses neither power nor influence, stands no chance against him—neither politically nor in pure strength.
“It is unacceptable to treat the father of the Saint in such a manner! I will report this to His Majesty!”
“As you wish. However, do you truly intend to visit His Majesty right now?”
“Of course! That is the very reason I traveled all the way from the Kotokoris territory to the imperial capital!”
“…You haven’t arranged an audience, have you?”
No way. No matter how reckless my father is, he wouldn’t—
“Such a thing is unnecessary! I am the father of the Saint! It is only proper that everything else be set aside to grant me an audience!”
Oh— come on! Stop already! Are you an idiot? No, you must be! Speaking so arrogantly even to the Emperor of Finable Empire— this is beyond foolish!
“Anyone without a scheduled audience cannot meet with His Majesty. Please return home, Baron Kotokoris.”
“Don’t be ridiculous! His Majesty would never refuse an audience with me!”
Ah, he’s hopeless. He really thinks he’s become someone important just because of the Saint’s existence.
“I have no more time to waste talking to you! I’m going to the imperial palace! Don’t come crying to me later!”
“…Sigh, do as you please.”
Realizing that words were useless, Sir Rain no longer tried to stop my father’s foolishness.
“Baron Kotokoris has gone to see His Majesty. Are you sure that’s okay?”
“My father and brother are in the palace, along with many other knights. Baron Kotokoris won’t even make it past the gates, let alone be granted an audience.”
That is the proper procedure. Normally, a baron wouldn’t be granted an audience with His Majesty unless there was an exceptional reason.
And up until now, his reason had been his position as the Saint’s father. But even so, how can he be so arrogant? Does my father have nerves of steel? I nearly had a panic attack when His Majesty told me I could have an audience whenever it was convenient for me.
“Forgive me for asking, but… are you truly Baron Kotokoris’s daughter?”
“Regrettably, yes. We are bl00d-related.”
Though, I was never properly raised. I was always compared to my sister, called useless, disowned, and thrown out of the house— what a terrible parent.
“I suppose he served as a lesson in what not to be. I grew up determined never to turn out like him.”
“I’m just glad you grew into a respectable young woman, Yuna.”
Hearing Sir Rein’s words, the surrounding townspeople, who had been listening anxiously, nodded in agreement.
“What will you do, Yuna? Should we reschedule your audience with His Majesty? If we go to the palace now, you’ll run into Baron Kotokoris again.”
“Let me think…”
Honestly, I never want to see him again. But given his behavior, I can already tell he’s causing trouble for everyone. I’ve even heard that he’s been making outrageous demands of people seeking the Saint’s help.
If I just leave things as they are, I’ll share some of the blame for allowing him and Emil to run unchecked. I can’t turn a blind eye to this anymore.
“If His Majesty permits it, could Baron Kotokoris join the audience as well?”
“…Are you sure?”
“Yes. It would be a shame if he traveled all this way for nothing.”
I put on a bright, cheerful smile as I say something I don’t mean in the slightest.
“If that’s what you wish, I’ll check with His Majesty. But are you really fine with seeing your former father suffer the consequences?”
“Completely.”
“Understood. His Majesty will likely grant your request since it’s coming from you.”
“Thank you. Please arrange it.”
He won’t understand his place until he experiences some real consequences. So go ahead— give him exactly what he deserves.
