The Saint is Not My Sister, The Real Saint is Me - Episode 16
“No… I can’t do it…”
“Right? Father and Mother didn’t believe you either, did they?”
As Emil said, neither Father nor Mother believed a single word I said. They yelled at me, calling me a liar, accusing me of being jealous of my sister’s reputation, saying I was trying to drag her down.
“Hey, in that case, wouldn’t it be better if I just remained the Saintess?”
“Eh—”
“Because that way, our whole family can be happy! Father and Mother both say that I’m more suited to be the Saintess since I can use healing magic, and I’ve finally started to be recognized by everyone as the Saintess. If it came out now that you were the real Saintess, Yuna, everyone would be so disappointed.”
“Disappointed…?”
“That’s right, Yuna. For the sake of our family, it’s better if I stay the Saintess. You understand, don’t you? You’ll live for our family, for me, won’t you?”
“…Y-Yeah.”
“I’m so glad. Thank you, Yuna. I love you so much. Let’s always be together, okay? I love you, Yuna.”
—Am I not included in that family’s happiness?
I was about to voice that thought, but I swallowed my words.
Even if I said it, I had no way to prove that I was the real Saintess. Besides, maybe it was an older sister’s role to live for her family— for her younger sister.
My precious twin… But in the end, Emil hurt me more than anyone else.
How foolish. Neither my parents nor my sister ever truly saw me as family.
I’m done living for them. No matter what happens, I won’t help them anymore.
I hate Emil.
As I had expected, the Saintess of Kotokoris finally accepted a request from the imperial family after more than a year.
Baron Kotokoris apparently boasted, “See! In the end, they had no choice but to rely on Emil!”
I don’t care anymore. Even after being locked in the dungeon, he still hasn’t learned his lesson. I guess being called upon by the imperial family has revived his arrogance. I wish they’d just throw him back into prison—somewhere far away where he’ll never return.
“You’ll have to face your former family. Are you really okay with that, Yuna?”
“I’m fine. In fact, I can’t wait to finally put an end to this.”
Not even a fraction of my heart holds any warmth for those people.
“Emil, Baron Kotokoris, the Baroness… and Luki—your husband, Lord Shainacle’s son, will be there too.”
“I see.”
“They’ll probably try to take you back.”
Emil had already pleaded with Father, “Please bring Yuna back!”
She likely cried, saying, “If Yuna isn’t here, I won’t work as the Saintess anymore!”
Of course. Without me, she can’t perform the land’s purification.
They must have also heard by now that the Emperor has granted me the title of the Saintess of the Finable Empire.
They probably think I deceived His Majesty to sabotage Emil.
This is the perfect chance for them—
To expose me as a fraud, humiliate me, and take back the title of Saintess for Emil.
“I will protect you, Yuna.”
“I’m counting on you, Lord Rein.”
“Lord Rein, Lady Yuna, they’ve arrived. The Saintess of Kotokoris is here.”
Several days late from the promised date, Emil and the others leisurely arrived in Melt, the town in need of purification.
“Wow, the land is in such a terrible state… How tragic. I need to hurry and bless it with my power.”
Despite being late, Emil stepped down from the carriage at a relaxed pace, her eyes brimming with tears at the sight of the town’s devastation.
—Then hurry up and come sooner.
Thinking that is already a loss.
The Saintess of Kotokoris always arrives late.
Maybe she thinks, “The protagonist should always make a dramatic entrance!”
If that’s the case, she needs to fix that mindset immediately.
“Ah! Yuna!”
“I’m so glad… I was so worried about you! I was terrified that something had happened to you… I… I!”
Upon spotting me, Emil first beamed with radiant joy before shifting into an expression of sorrow.
To an outsider, it must have looked like a kind and caring younger sister, finally reunited with the elder sister she had desperately worried about after being cast out by their parents.
“Yuna, please forgive Father for giving you that letter of disownment. He only did it because he was thinking of me. But don’t worry, I’ve already told him not to ever cast you out again. You don’t have to worry anymore.”
“Right? You understand, don’t you? We’re twins— the only ones in the world. So come back to me, Yuna. I love you so much.”
Father disowned me for Emil’s sake.
And now Emil tells me, “I asked him not to throw you out next time.”
How can she say that to me with a straight face?
She never once thought about me at all.
