- Episode 18 - The Saint's Power Unveiled
“Lord Rein…”
“Ah, if it isn’t Luki of the  Marquis Shainacle. It’s been a while.”
It seemed that Lord Rein and Lord Luki were acquainted. When their eyes met, they exchanged smiles that were clearly superficial. Lord Rein was the first to speak.
“I heard that you married the Saint of Kotokoris. I was a bit late in offering my congratulations—congratulations.”
To me, his words sounded like sarcasm, and Lord Luki must have taken them the same way. He scowled for a moment before forcing a polite smile.
“Thank you. Lord Rein, what a shame for you. If only you had accepted the proposal with Emil, you could have been the one married to the Saint of Kotokoris right now.”
Rein, the son of the Duke of Ainakura, was so well-regarded in high society that fathers often scolded their sons with, “You should learn from Lord Rein.”
Luki was no exception. He had heard the same words from his father countless times. As an ambitious, calculating, and prideful man, it was humiliating. It was enough to make him see Rein as his rival.
When Luki was chosen by Emil and became the Saint of Kotokoris’ husband, he finally felt that he had beaten Rein. But—
“You must be joking. I’d rather die than marry the Saint of Kotokoris.”
Rein’s beaming smile was the exact opposite of what Luki had expected.
“W-What?!”
“Oh, my apologies. I accidentally spoke my true feelings. But surely, a comment like this is insignificant, compared to what you did to Yuna?”
“That was because Yuna—no, Lady Yuna—bullied Emil! Even now, she has been speaking cruel words to her own sister and made my wife cry! Isn’t it natural for a husband to protect his beloved wife?!”
“Then, by that logic, it is only natural for me to protect my beloved Saint when she is being mistreated.”
To be called his ‘beloved Saint’—that’s a bit embarrassing…!
But when I recall how no one stood by me back then, I can’t help but feel happy. Lord Rein has always cared for me, been kind to me, cherished me, and protected me.
Compared to Luki, he’s a hundred times more wonderful.
“Hah! We’ll see how long that lasts! By tomorrow, Lady Yuna’s facade will be exposed! You will be the one regretting everything, Lord Rein!”
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow, then. If Yuna proves to be the true Saint, I expect a formal apology from the Marquis Shainacle
“Hmph! As if someone as unimpressive as her could be a Saint! It seems Lord Rein lacks the ability to judge people properly.”
What a rude thing to say right in front of me.
Well then, tomorrow, I’ll make it crystal clear that it’s he who lacks the ability to judge people.
After glaring at me one last time, Lord Luki took his dispirited wife, Emil, along with her parents, and headed toward the lodging that Melt had prepared for them.
As always, they were annoyingly overprotective of Emil.
“Lord Rein, you and Lord Luki knew each other?”
“He’s always tried to compete with me. I usually ignored him, but that seemed to annoy him even more, and he started picking fights with me at every opportunity.”
And now, here they were, facing each other again in a situation like this… how unfortunate.
Lord Luki would be quite the dashing prince if only he kept his mouth shut. Still, he was popular in high society—not just because of his title as the marquis’ son, but also because he could be incredibly kind to the people he set his sights on.
“What is it, Yuna?”
But no matter what he did, he could never surpass Lord Rein.
Having such a highly capable rival of the same generation—it’s no wonder he saw Lord Rein as a thorn in his side.
Good looks, a noble lineage, an excellent personality, and outstanding abilities—Lord Luki had no chance of winning against him.
“Oh, I was just thinking that I’m looking forward to it.”
“Looking forward to what?”
“To seeing Lord Luki groveling on the ground in apology.”
This time, I said it clearly, with no hesitation.
After all, Emil is a fake Saint, and I am the real one.
Oh, I can’t wait!
Lord Luki, you abandoned me to choose Emil. Now, let’s see how noble and pure your love truly is.
Though I’m certain it’s just as fake as she is.
“…You’re going to make him kneel.”
Rein understood.
He had planned to handle this diplomatically by sending a formal protest to the Marquis Shainacle for insulting the Saint of the Finable Empire. He thought involving Luki’s family would be the best way to strike him where it hurt the most.
But Yuna had chosen the more direct approach—bringing him to his knees.
(Alright, I’ll send the protest letter, and Yuna can do the rest as she pleases.)
Rein decided.
The next morning, the plan was for the two Saints to perform a land purification ritual.
However, as expected, Emil failed to show up on time.
“Does the Kotokoris Baronial family not understand the concept of punctuality?”
“In that household, Emil’s convenience is the highest priority.”
I sighed as I answered Lord Rein’s question.
Everything revolved around Emil, and the entire household adjusted to her schedule. No one else’s time mattered.
As the ‘Saint,’ Emil had always been allowed to do whatever she pleased.
“Not to be arrogant, but they are keeping me, the Saint of the Finable Empire, and me, the son of the Duke of Ainakura, waiting.”
To them, that’s perfectly acceptable.
As long as they have the Saint’s power, they believe they can do anything.
