- Episode 4 - The Conversation at the Kotokoris Baron Household
“Huh? Where is Yuna, dear sister?”
Sometime after Yuna had left the house, Emil returned from her honeymoon with Luki.
“Oh! Welcome back, Emil! How was the honeymoon? Did you have fun?”
It had been a year since Emil and Luki got married.
Because Luki had continued his fake engagement with Yuna, Emil had remained living in her family home, the Kotokoris Baron’s estate, even after the marriage.
“Yes, Lord Luki was very kind to me. He comforted me when I was hurt by Yuna, showered me with love, and treated me with such kindness.”
“I see! Well, as long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters!”
Seeing Emil’s cheeks turn red with happiness, Baron Kotokoris nodded in satisfaction.
“Father-in-law.”
“Oh, Luki. Thank you for taking care of my daughter. Seeing Emil so happy brings me great joy.”
“I only did what was natural.”
Luki politely bowed his head and exchanged greetings with his father-in-law.
“By the way, I heard that Duke Ainakura’s son, Lord Rain, was supposed to visit Emil.”
“Ah, that young fool. When we first proposed a marriage arrangement, he refused, yet now he has the nerve to ask for Emil’s help. That’s why I intentionally scheduled his visit on the day Emil was away on her honeymoon. I can’t allow Emil to meet such an insolent man so easily.”
Ever since his daughter was declared a Saint, Baron Kotokoris had become deluded into thinking his own status had risen as well. Because of this, he had no qualms about breaking his promises—even to someone like Rein, the son of a duke.
“After keeping him waiting for several days, I was thinking of making him work hard as Emil’s personal bodyguard as a magic knight. But in the end, he never came. I had already sent him a letter saying, ‘I have no intention of granting the wishes of someone who rejected the Saint.’ So when he replied that he would still visit, I was honestly a bit afraid he was going to be obsessed with Emil.”
In reality, Rain had met the true Saint—Yuna—and had no reason to visit the fake one. But Baron Kotokoris had no way of knowing that.
“Even if he is from a duke’s house, he cannot treat me, the father of a Saint, lightly. After all, with the Saint’s power, barren lands can flourish, and the wounded can be healed!”
“Indeed, Father-in-law. The magic of a Saint is truly great. With this power, even the Emperor himself might bestow a new noble title upon you.”
“Haha! Exactly! That’s right!”
Until now, Baron Kotokoris had been solely focused on arranging a good marriage for Emil. But with Luki’s words, he realized that as a Saint, Emil could directly receive a noble title herself.
“If Emil continues to serve as a Saint, she will surely be granted a title! And when that happens, my own rank will be elevated as well! I am, after all, the father of a Saint!”
The baron threw his head back and laughed heartily.
“I wish you great success, Father-in-law.”
With an unreadable smirk, Luki continued to fuel the baron’s delusions.
“Is Yuna still sulking and shutting herself away in her room?”
While no one else in the household cared about Yuna leaving, Emil alone showed concern for her sister.
“It must take some time for Yuna’s heart to heal… But it’s okay, I will wait. I will wait for the day my dear sister returns to me. After all, we are the only two halves of the same soul.”
Unaware that Yuna had been disowned, Emil naively and innocently held on to the hope that one day, she and her sister would reconcile.
