The Saint is Not My Sister, The Real Saint is Me - Episode 49
Having been disowned by the Kotokoris Baron family, Yuna was no longer a noble lady. However, the Emperor had bestowed upon her the title of the Holy Maiden of the Finable Empire, granting her a unique and unshakable status.
As the Holy Maiden of the Finable Empire, Yuna’s name spread throughout the empire. In stark contrast to the time when she lived in Emil’s shadow, she suddenly became the center of attention. Unlike the Kotokoris Holy Maiden, she was praised not only for her beauty but also for her kind heart, making her popular among people of all ages.
And now, what the empire was most curious about was Yuna’s fiancé.
“Yuna, another marriage proposal has arrived for you.”
…Again?
Today was my audience with His Majesty.
Although I was under the care of the Ainakura Ducal House as the Holy Maiden of the Finable Empire, for some reason, marriage proposals were always sent to the royal family instead.
“Please decline.”
“U-Understood.”
Before I could say anything, Lord Rein responded with a knowing smile, causing His Majesty to hesitate slightly before agreeing.
How many times have I witnessed this scene recently?
“Rein, respect Yuna-sama’s wishes.”
“Yuna, it’s fine to refuse, right? After all, you’re my lover.”
“…Ah, y-yes.”
“You heard her, Father.”
It was a familiar sight to see Lord Rein’s father, Duke Ainakura, reprimanding him.
Everyone sent their marriage proposals to the royal family instead of the Ainakura Ducal House because of Lord Rein. He and I had already attended social events together several times as partners.
Yet, those who couldn’t give up on marrying me avoided sending their proposals to the Ainakura Ducal House, where Lord Rein resided, and instead submitted them to the royal family, with whom I also had strong ties.
“Haah… I apologize for my son’s possessiveness, Yuna-sama.”
“N-No! I’ve never thought of it as a bother.”
I used to hate being monopolized by Emil. But strangely enough, I didn’t mind Lord Rein’s possessiveness.
I was aware that my engagement was a hot topic in the Finable Empire.
Noble daughters in the empire typically got engaged as early as twelve years old. In my case, I was engaged to Lord Luki at fifteen. Now, I was past the ideal age for engagement, which made the competition to win the Holy Maiden’s hand even more intense.
“This is endless, so I think it’s best to finalize your engagement quickly. Any objections?”
“Yuna, would you be okay with me as your fiancé?”
Perhaps because Duke Ainakura had just told him to respect my wishes, Lord Rein asked me directly.
“Ah… Y-Yes. If… if you would have me…”
“I want you, Yuna.”
Lord Rein had become more straightforward in expressing his feelings lately.
I was happy, but as a novice in love, I still wasn’t used to it. Whenever he openly expressed his affections, I always ended up blushing furiously.
“Then I will proceed with the engagement arrangements.”
“Please take care of it.”
“Y-Yes, thank you.”
And so, my new engagement was decided.
When I was engaged to Lord Luki, he never once seemed happy about it. He didn’t even try to hide his unwillingness. My father and mother also never celebrated my engagement. I was merely a tool to secure a connection with the Shainacle Marquis family.
But now… to be engaged to Lord Rein… I’m so happy…!
When Lord Rein noticed my gaze, he smiled at me with such warmth and joy. I could tell that he truly was happy about our engagement.
“A knight dedicated to magic, falling in love with the Holy Maiden—what a predicament.”
“Well, Duke Ainakura, isn’t it fine? I, too, find joy in Yuna and Rein’s happiness.”
“Well… I suppose so.”
Both His Majesty and Duke Ainakura had opposed Lord Rein’s engagement to the Kotokoris Holy Maiden for the sake of the country. They cared about his happiness.
And now, they seemed genuinely happy for my happiness as well.
To have people who rejoiced in my happiness as if it were their own… This was the first time I had ever experienced something like this. It made me so happy.
Ah… I’m truly glad I came here.
After finishing our audience with His Majesty, Lord Rein and I left the palace and headed to the Ainakura Ducal House by carriage.
With my duties as the Holy Maiden settling down, I had been able to spend more time relaxing. Occasionally, I would travel to different regions to check on the land, and I was relieved to see that people were living peacefully.
The only place I hadn’t set foot in since then was the Kotokoris territory. However, I had received reports from those who had visited.
Now that they could no longer rely on the Holy Maiden’s powers, they were doing their best to maintain their land. Although they were no longer experiencing constant prosperity, they had managed to sustain a livable condition.
Compared to the days when they despaired over poor harvests, this was an improvement.
I could only hope that from now on, they would work hard with their own strength.
“Yuna, as your fiancé, I look forward to our future together.”
“Yes, I do as well.”
Holding hands with Lord Rein and gazing into each other’s eyes filled me with happiness.
It was different from when I was by Emil’s side.
Now, I was living each day in peace and comfort.
I wished that this happiness could last forever.
