- Episode 51 - Luki-sama’s Futile Struggle
The engagement of Yuna and Rein spread rapidly throughout the Finable Empire.
Rein, the son of Duke Ainakura was an outstanding magic knight who had always been by Yuna’s side as her personal knight. Many had witnessed this, and he was highly regarded as a suitable match for Yuna, someone who would bring her happiness. Knowing her unfortunate past and the annulment of her previous engagement, many people rejoiced at the engagement of the empire’s saint and wished for Yuna’s happiness.
“Lady Yuna, Sir Rein, congratulations on your engagement.”
“Thank you very much.”
Meeting people who congratulated them filled Yuna with a mix of happiness, embarrassment, and a ticklish feeling, but ultimately, she was sincerely pleased to receive their blessings.
However, today was not about them.
“I’m glad Lady Mimosa’s engagement has been settled successfully.”
They were currently on their way to the Shainacle Marquisate to attend a banquet celebrating the engagement of Mimosa, the future head of the Shainacle family.
“…Ah.”
Rein, too, seemed genuinely happy, likely because his close friend’s engagement had been successfully arranged.
Mimosa had previously suffered interference from Luki, resulting in the annulment of her engagement. Now that she had secured a new, promising engagement, it was a truly joyous occasion.
Though Mimosa had said they didn’t have to attend since Luki would be present, Yuna didn’t want to keep avoiding him forever. Since he was a son of the Shainacle family, they were bound to cross paths again, so she decided to attend.
More than anything, Yuna simply wanted to celebrate Mimosa’s happiness.
“Are you sure you’re okay with seeing Luki?” Rein asked.
“Yes, unlike Emil, I can’t keep avoiding him forever.”
The Shainacle family was not a small noble house like the remote Baron Kotokoris but a distinguished and prestigious family. Their relationship with the current head, Lord Georg, was also favorable. As long as no more trouble arose, Yuna was willing to handle things peacefully.
Luki had already lost his social standing and his honor. Yuna didn’t wish for further punishment—so long as he didn’t cause any more problems.
“Today, I just want to celebrate Lady Mimosa.”
Mimosa and Yuna shared a similar struggle—both had suffered from troubles within their families. That made Yuna even more eager to see Mimosa happy.
Although their circumstances differed, both had been victims of annulled engagements. Yuna was determined to see Mimosa find happiness.
“Besides, as Sir Rein’s fiancée, I have nothing to fear.”
“…You’re adorable.”
“Huh?”
“No, I mean, in that case, I have to meet your expectations and make sure to protect you properly.”
“Hehe, thank you, Sir Rein.”
Together, Yuna and Rein entered the Shainacle Marquisate.
“Lady Mimosa, congratulations on your engagement.”
“Thank you, Lady Yuna.”
Since this was a banquet to celebrate the engagement of Mimosa, the future head of the Shainacle family, many guests had gathered, making it a grand event.
“Next, it will be your turn, Lady Yuna and Rein.”
“I don’t really want to make it a big event, though…”
Yuna wasn’t fond of being the center of attention, so she wanted to keep things quiet. However, as the saint of the Finable Empire, she had no choice in the matter.
When she heard that their wedding day might become a national holiday, she was so shocked she nearly had a heart attack.
“If you really don’t want that, you could refuse. If it’s you, Lady Yuna, your wish would likely be granted.”
“That is…”
She wanted to refuse, but when told that celebrating the saint’s wedding was an imperial tradition and that the people of the empire wished to rejoice, she couldn’t bring herself to say no.
“Lady Yuna is truly a wonderful person. Emil would have thrown a tantrum and forced things her way immediately.”
“I sincerely apologize for my selfish sister. It’s honestly embarrassing. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve felt relieved to have cut ties with her.”
“Well, in any case, please enjoy yourselves. We’ve prepared the finest food, wine, and juice, all befitting the name of the Shainacle family.”
“Thank you very much, Lady Mimosa.”
“Rein, I know you can’t let your guard down, but please try to enjoy yourself too.”
“Ah… Congratulations, Mimosa.”
Rein had been deeply concerned when Mimosa’s engagement was annulled by Luki, even more so than anyone else. He had been furious at the time.
Perhaps no one was happier about Mimosa’s new engagement than Rein himself.
“Thank you, Rein. You’re my best friend.”
Mimosa seemed to fully understand Rein’s feelings.
She had once said that Rein was someone who never got emotionally attached to anything. But now, she must have realized that Rein truly cared, not only about Yuna but also about her as a dear friend.
Yuna wished that this joyous atmosphere would last until the end of the banquet.
However, that wish was soon shattered.
“It has been a while, Lady Yuna.”
“…Lord Luki.”
It was the first time she had seen Luki since the imperial banquet. He looked noticeably aged and worn down.
