- Episode 8 - The Kotokoris Baron Family’s Conversation (Part 2)
At the Kotokoris Baron Residence
“Where is Yuna onee-sama!? Hasn’t she been found yet!?”
“Calm down, Emil!”
“That’s right, it’ll be okay—
Emil raised her voice, almost accusingly, at Baron Kotokoris. Beside her, Luki and Baroness Kotokoris spoke soothingly, trying to pacify her.
“How can you say it’s okay!? Yuna onee-sama has been gone for months already! Why… Father, I begged you not to send her away!”
“E-Emil…”
It wasn’t long before Emil found out that Yuna had been disowned.
The baron knew it was impossible to keep it a secret from Emil forever, nor had he intended to. So when Emil noticed Yuna was no longer around and demanded an explanation, he told her outright that he had cast her out. He never expected Emil to be so furious about it.
“Didn’t you always say Yuna bullied you? When I heard you crying because of her, I thought you didn’t have to endure it any longer, so I threw her out.”
Emil had begged him countless times to let Yuna stay.
Since it was a plea from his beloved daughter, he had kept Yuna in the house. But deep down, Baron Kotokoris had always wanted to expel her.
“But I still told you that I didn’t want to be separated from Yuna onee-sama! No matter how terribly she treated me, we are the only two—two halves of a twin!”
“A sister who bullies her saintly younger twin is of no use to us…”
“She is important to me! Please, Father! Find Yuna onee-sama as soon as possible!”
Tears streamed down Emil’s face as she desperately pleaded with her father.
To her parents, to Luki, and to the townspeople, Emil was seen as a kind-hearted girl who, despite being tormented by her older sister, continued to defend her.
—However, in reality, Yuna had never once bullied Emil.
It was Emil who had lied—to not just their parents, but the entire town.
By spreading the story that Yuna resented her saintly sister and tormented her out of jealousy, she had hoped to isolate her sister.
—So she could have Yuna all to herself.
“I—I know. We’re doing everything we can to find Yuna.”
“Then why haven’t you found her yet!? She couldn’t have gone that far…!”
Emil was right. With no one to rely on and barely any money, Yuna’s options were extremely limited. And yet, she remained missing.
“Emil.”
“Luki-sama! Why haven’t they found Yuna onee-sama yet!? Why—”
“Calm down, Emil.”
Luki gently pulled Emil into an embrace.
“We’ve expanded the search area. Don’t worry, she will be found.”
“…Really?”
“Of course. You, a saint, are praying for her—there’s no way she won’t be found.”
“…Yes, you’re right. If I’m praying so hard, then Yuna onee-sama will be found, won’t she…?”
“Emil, let’s rest for a bit. Come, now.”
A little calmer, Emil let herself be led out of the room by her mother.
“Hah… I never thought Emil would be this distraught over Yuna’s disappearance…!”
Baron Kotokoris sighed deeply, sinking into the sofa.
“If we don’t find Yuna soon… damn it! I was planning to restart the saint’s activities!”
One reason he had delayed Emil’s public appearances was her reluctance. But more than that, Baron Kotokoris had a scheme of his own.
By withholding the saint’s miracles, he aimed to increase their perceived value.
With time, the land would dry up, and people would grow desperate for the saint’s blessings. When that happened, Emil’s worth would skyrocket, and people would clamor for her.
The timing was finally right to resume her activities, yet now, Emil was refusing—saying she wouldn’t until Yuna was found.
For now, she was at least continuing to heal people, but she was refusing to do anything else.
“She’s just emotionally exhausted right now because her sister disappeared so suddenly. Once she calms down, she’ll surely thank you for getting rid of that troublesome sister.”
“I hope so.”
To appease Emil, he had hired people to search for Yuna.
He had thought she would be found quickly, yet the search had proved far more difficult than expected.
“Perhaps… she’s already dead.”
“…Hah, maybe.”
At this point, the logical conclusion was that Yuna had perished somewhere.
“Regardless, we’ll continue the search for appearance’s sake. We’ve even started looking in the Imperial Capital.”
The Kotokoris territory was a distant borderland, far removed from the Imperial Capital.
Before the saint’s emergence, it had been nothing more than an unnoticed, impoverished region.
Even if Yuna had somehow miraculously made it to the capital, she had no special skills or advantages to survive there.
And so, the search continued—purely for show.
